Issue between Nonito Donaire Sr. and Nonito Donaire Jr. sparks discussion if children are obligated to help their parents

The issue between father and son, boxing trainer Nonito Donaire Sr. and five-division world champion Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire went viral on social media.

It can be recalled that Donaire Sr. called his son ‘ungrateful’, saying that he was abandoned by the Filipino Flash when he became champion.

“I can’t believe that you raised a kid and now that he has more money than his parents, can afford to raised his voice toward his father who molded him of what he is right now. I was talking about Nonito Jr. The UNGRATEFUL SON. He was a jobless man until he became a world champion.” Donaire Sr. stated.

“For 24 years, I feed him, but when he became a world champion he left me and not even telling me that he hired another trainer.” he added.

The feud between the two sparked a discussion among netizens if Donaire Jr. should support his father.

There was a culture among Filipino families that children should support their parents once they’re already capable of working.

Meanwhile, some netizens mostly from Gen Z, criticized the said culture, saying that children should not be considered as ‘investments’ by their parents.

As of writing, Donaire Jr. has yet to respond to his father’s statement.

Mocha Girls manager Byron Cristobal, also known as ‘Banat By,’ responded to the statement of Ogie Diaz about the 14-minute vlog of Liza Soberano.

It can be remembered that Ogie, the former talent manager of Liza, responded to the actress’ complaints that she didn’t have a chance to share her ideas during her career in the Philippines.

Kaya siguro sumikat siya,” Ogie said.

“Anak, lagi kang binibgyan ng chance to say your piece, your opnion, your suggestions. Pinapakinggan ka din naman pag may complaints, pero di ba kung minsan we have to meet halfway? Pakikisama ang tawag doon doon anak, pagtatanim para in the future may aanihin,” he added.

However, while Byron wanted to side with Ogie because they’re both talent managers, the former said that the latter should not treat his talents as robots.

“As a manager gusto ko na sanang kampihan itong si Ogie. Totoo naman ang ibang sinabi nya. Pero minsan kasi u are handling a “human being” hindi robot ang artist.” Byron said. “There are times u impose what u believe will work pero dapat pagunawa din sa artist!”

“Artist yan! Meaning may “art” dyan. U manage hindi you control!” he added.

This is not the first time that Byron made a post about Ogie.

In 2020, Byron swiped against Ogie after the latter’s radio show was canceled.

“Masakit pakinggan. Kasi you were working with three of the best directors of this country. For the last 13 years ang hinangaan namin hindi si Liza ‘yon,” ani Abunda.

“I don’t know the intent, I don’t know where she wanted to go.

“Pero sana you can journey in gratitude. Because you are where you are today dahil sa mga taong tumulong. Sabihin na natin may mga karanasan ka na hindi masyadong maganda because you wanted to be heard, you wanted to be more visible in your career,” sabi ng King of Talk.

Nothing is ever wasted. Lahat. Lahat ‘yan nagiging point of reference mo, ‘Ay ito pala ang ibig sabihin no’n. Medyo masakit din po pakinggan ‘yung even the choice of [her] name na Liza, she had nothing to do with it,” dagdag pa niya.
