Some netizens were not convinced that Filipino-American actress Vanessa Hudgens was fit to become the Philippines’ global tourism ambassador.

On March 31, the government tapped Vanessa to promote the Philippines, even if it was just her first time visiting the country.

She was also set to make a documentary about her ‘Filipino roots’ directed by Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications (OPACC) Paul Soriano.

However, some netizens questioned Vanessa’s qualifications and even compared the Hollywood actress to K-Pop star Sandara Park, known for actively promoting the Philippines despite being a pure-blooded South Korean.

“What did vanessa hudgens even do? sandara or bretman promotes ph more than she does LMAOO vanessa’s just now relying on her filo genes cuz she’s flopping and she knew pinoys are overproud and will eat everything up especially from a western celebrity,” a netizen asked.

“The way Sandara Park has nary a drop of Filipino blood coursing through her veins, yet has done so much more for the Philippines than Vanessa Hudgens ever could.” netizen Salvador remarked.

“I don’t even agree in gatekeeping the Philippines from Vanessa Hudgens, but I agree with this tweet. Sandara Park should be in her place.” netizen @nmjnee remarked.

In 2017, Sandara received praise from netizens after she encouraged South Koreans to visit the Philippines.

Before becoming a K-Pop artist, Sandara gained fame in the country after placing second in Star Circle Quest in 2004.

In 2007, she decided to return to South Korea and signed a contract with YG Entertainment.

She then gained international fame after becoming a member of the K-pop girl group 2NE1 in 2009.

Talent manager and showbiz writer Ogie Diaz believed that GMA is not keen on bringing back television host Willie Revillame to their network.

In his online program, Ogie, together with his co-hosts Mama Loi and Ate Mrena, discussed the resignation of Willie from AllTV.

According to Ogie, Willie’s chance of becoming Kapuso again may be slim because of leaving GMA because of a better offer from Manny Villar.

It can be recalled that Willie demanded an executive position from AllTV. However, the show of the television host on the network owned by Villar was considered a flop after getting 0% ratings.

“Naku kung ganoon lang kadali Mrena, why not ‘di ba? Kaya lang siyempre, dati hinabol pa siya ng GMA pero umayaw na siya kasi nga malaki ang offer ni Manny Villar. So, I don’t think hahabulin siya ngayon ng GMA 7,” Ogie said.

Meanwhile, Ogie shared that an executive of ABS-CBN might resign from his position if ever the Kapamilya network decided to welcome Willie again.

“Ang ABS-CBN naman ang alam ko, eto’y ano lang naman sa akin once makabalik ng ABS-CBN si Willie Revillame, isang tao mula sa top management ang magre-resign. Ang nakarating sa akin, pinasakit ang ulo non ni Willie. Hindi ko lang alam ah, kung sino ‘yung tao na ‘yun,” he said.

On April 3, it was reported that Willie already wrote to AllTV to reveal his intention to leave the network.

A report from Bilyonaryo.com said that someone from GMA was already trying to convince Willie to return to Kapuso Network.

Netizens celebrated the victory of chess prodigy Bince Rafael Operiano at the 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship that was held in Thailand.

While netizens and the government were praising Bince, many were not aware of the hardships that he experienced before flying to Thailand to compete with 20 other players from different countries.

In a Facebook post, Albay 3rd District Representative Fernando Cabredo revealed that Bince, who’s just nine years old, was forced to sleep for three days at Ninoy Aquino International Airport because of uncertainties about his plane ticket.

And when the ticket arrived, Bince traveled alone to Thailand and spent the first day of the competition without his father.

Due to limited funds and while waiting for the plane ticket sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission, Bince and his father spent three nights at the airport with those benches as their bed,” Cabredo said.”The little boy had to travel first to Thailand without his father, Mr. Ben Operiano,” he added.

The lack of guardian affected his performance during his first day in Thailand because he was not used to traveling without his father.

Fortunately, his father arrived on the second day, and his confidence returned, defeating other participants.

In an interview, Mr. Operiano shared that he decided to stop working to guide his son’s career, but at the same time, they’re also having difficulties because of a lack of funds.

Mr. Operiano shared that he’s actively searching for sponsors to fund the dream of Bince.

“Kahit na mahirap tayo, alagan naman na [porket] wala tayong pang-suporta ay susuko na tayo.” Mr. Operiano said.

“Pakapalan na lang ng mukha, kakapalan na lamang natin ang mukha natin para masuportahan lamang po natin ang ating mga anak na may pangarap sa buhay,” he added.

Philippine Sports Commission didn’t explain why it took three days for them to give the ticket to Bince and why they didn’t shoulder the accommodation of the chess prodigy while waiting at NAIA.

“Aga, yes, I would be open to working with him. To your dad, no.” Janice quickly answered.

“Alam mo kasi, hindi kami naging mag-asawa ni Aga, so it’s different than… the relationship is different. It’s different with your dad kasi naging mag-asawa kami. Yung disagreements namin were not tiny disagreements.” she added.

The television host even said that the reason of her failed marriage to John was not a ‘tiny thing’.

“The reason for us separating, it’s not a tiny thing, it’s not just a disagreement. So many hurtful things, so many hurtful words have already been exchanged.” she said.

Janice also admitted that she still could not look John straight in the eyes.

“Baka maging problema kami, so huwag na lang kaming maging problema at all.” she said.

The court had already annulled their marriage.

Influencer Jinky Cubillan-Anderson, popularly known as Madam Kilay, criticized other ‘vloggers’ like her who promote gambling games on their social media pages.

According to her, vloggers should not promote vices to their followers, and if they keep insisting on promoting gambling, they should stop calling themselves ‘vloggers’.

However, she understood that some vloggers only wanted to earn money, but she said that promoting gambling already showed their greediness.

“Kumikita na tayo sa vlogging natin, kada post natin kada views natin, kumikita yan [at] may pera diyan. Okay na sana don, gumawa ka nalang ng content na maganda, yung nakakapagpasaya yung nakakatanggal ng negative ng tao, positive na content diba, kumikita ka na naman doon,” she stated.

Madam Kilay received thousands of positive reactions from the netizens.

It can be recalled that some popular influencers were actively promoting gambling apps to their followers.

In his recent posts on Instagram, John called his wife since 2011 his ‘one and only queen’.

“The love of my life, my wife, my one and only Queen.” John said.

The post gained thousands of reactions from netizens.

It was rumored that John allegedly had a relationship with his former colleague Vanessa del Blanco.

In 2011, John then married Priscilla.

“You have to leave the bad experience. Stop the blaming. I accept that partly, I am probably to blame also [of the annulment]. Hindi ko nagawa lahat ng gusto niya. I’ve forgiven them for what happened.” Janice said.

Content creator group ‘Tukomi’ almost got into trouble after one of the people they wanted to ‘prank’ almost used his firearm against them.

In a video uploaded by Edwin Dodong Corpin, it can be seen that commotion happened while filming one of the pranks performed by the Davao-based influencers.

The police officer can be seen pointing his weapon toward one of the members of Tukomi, who’s wearing a balaclava to pretend that he’s a bad element.

They tried to apologize to the man repeatedly and even tried to shake the hand of the police, but the latter suddenly panicked again and tried to distance himself from the prankster.

Before the video ended, it could be seen that the influencer entered their vehicle.

This is not the first group that faced controversy because of their pranks.

In 2018, a man accused the group of taking away a job of a security guard because of their Fountain Swimming Prank.

In 2022, they faced criticism again from netizens because of their prank, throwing a black bag to a barber shop while dressed as a Muslim.

Unlike in other countries, pranksters might face charges in the Philippines because of several laws, it including unjust vexation.
