Joey de Leon, asks netizens not to force TVJ to retire: “Hangga’t gustong gumalaw, pabayaan mong gumalaw”

Eat Bulaga Dabarkads Joey de Leon asked the netizens to stop forcing them to retire, saying that they still wanted to reach the 50th anniversary of Eat Bulaga.

In his Facebook Live, the 76-year-old host said that his colleagues Tito Sotto, 74, and Vic Sotto, 69, still wanted to work, not to earn money but for other people.

According to him, people should let old people work if their body wants to.

“Ang tao, hangga’t gustong gumalaw, pabayaan mong gumalaw. Kung gustong magtrabaho, pabayaan mong magtrabaho,” Joey said.

“Malalaman ‘nyo ‘yan ‘pag tanda ‘nyo, kung umabot pa kayo dun. Kaya ka nagtatrabaho ‘pag tanda mo, hindi na para sa sarili mo yun, para na ‘yan sa ibang tao. Para na ‘yan sa pamilya mo, para sa kamag-anak mo.” he added.

In 2029, Joey will be 82 years old, and fans are praying that TVJ will be healthy enough to reach the 50th anniversary of Eat Bulaga.

However, it was already expected that Dabarkads would celebrate their 50th anniversary in TV5, not in their long-time home GMA Network.

Netizens are also hoping that TVJ would win the trademark of Eat Bulaga title that currently being held by the Jalosjos family-owned TAPE Inc.

Jose Manalo reveals that Buboy Villar apologizes to him for accepting Eat Bulaga offer: “

Comedian Jose Manalo revealed that rebranded Eat Bulaga host Buboy Villar called him after the latter accepted the offer to become one of the replacements for the resigned Dabarkads.

In an interview, Jose said that Buboy ‘apologized’ to him while crying after he decided to accept the offer.

“Si Buboy, the night before ng live ay tumawag sa akin. Umiiyak talaga.” said Jose. “‘Kuya Jose, sorry,”

However, Jose said that he understood the decision made by Buboy, saying that the latter also needed projects.

He also urged the netizens to respect the new hosts of Eat Bulaga.

“May sarili silangidea, may sarili silang atake so respetuhin na lang natin ‘yon. Syempre iba ‘yung atake namin sa atake nila, so hindi pwedeng magkapareho halos talaga,” he said.

Jose reminded everyone that he started from scratch, so he understood how difficult for Buboy to receive criticism.

“Nanggaling din naman ako sa gano’n e. Nag-umpisa rin ako, so ‘wag natin idiin ‘yung mga taong nag-uumpisa,” he said.

It can be recalled that most of the new hosts of Eat Bulaga received criticisms from netizens who were expressing support for the original Dabarkads.

Some of them pointed out that the current Eat Bulaga was very different from the original.

In her Instagram post, Solis said that she’s always waiting for Clavio to deliver news in 24 Oras, praising how the newscaster was sharing the current affairs with the televiewers.

According to her, Clavio was the reason why she’s a fan of GMA News.

She even requested that the newscaster should be permanent in 24 Oras.

It can be recalled that Clavio became controversial because of his issue with Sara Balabagan.

However, despite the revelation made by Balabagan, Clavio’s career was not affected and still kept his position as one of the top newscaster in the country.

Even without a show, former Eat Bulaga Dabarkads were still getting more views online than the rebranded version of their noontime show.

Several netizens noticed that the live videos published by the Facebook page ‘TVJ’ were getting more views than the rebranded Eat Bulaga that TAPE Inc currently handled.

Netizens cited the live stream published by Eat Bulaga and their former hosts at the same time on June 15, showing that the original Dabarkads gained more live viewers.

Eat Bulaga even used their hosts with bigger social media following, including Isko Moreno Domagoso and Paolo Contis. However, it still failed to surpass the live videos being posted by TVJ.

In the past four days, the TVJ page was getting 300,000 to 1.1-M total views per video.

Meanwhile, the Eat Bulaga live stream that Moreno and Contis posted was only getting 40,000 to 200,000 views.

It can be recalled that TVJ reportedly possessed the official social media pages associated to Eat Bulaga, giving more trouble to TAPE Inc. on how to get a social media presence.

It was the possible reason why TAPE Inc. was forced to create a new social media page and channel that later on got disabled after being mass-reported by Dabarkads fans who believed that the rebranded Eat Bulaga was fake.

“Kapag sinusundo ko yung mga bata, nag-i-stay ako sa kanila ng ilang minuto para pag-usapan yung mga bata. May ganun kaming relasyon ni Kylie.” he added.

It can be recalled that netizens talked about the encounter between the two during the Parade of the Stars last April 2, however, Aljur clarified that they were having meetings even before the event happened, so people should not make it a big deal.

Aljur said that he was visiting his children every weekend.

They’re not talents anymore”

TV5 Network and Mediaquest chairman Manny Pangilinan said that Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon were now content providers and not just talents like what they were during their stay at Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE Inc.)

During the press conference for the upcoming show of Eat Bulaga, rumored to be named ‘This is Eat, Dabarkads’, Pangilinan said that the production company formed by the legendary trio, TVJ Productions, would provide content to TV5.

It was possible that aside from their upcoming noontime show, TVJ productions would also produce ‘Wow Mali’ and ‘Iskul Bukol’ for TV5.

Because they’re not talents anymore, TVJ has more freedom when it comes to the decision of their shows, and they would also get more shares from the revenues of their shows.

“They are not talents anymore. They are part-owners with the content they produce. That’s a very important point of our group, the Metro Pacific Group. We want the talents who work for us and with us as part-owners of the business.” Pangilinan said.

“Hindi naman sa amin manggaling ang content. Wala naman kaming alam. Masyado kaming seryoso sa buhay, di ba?” he added.

Pangilinan also received cheers from the Dabarkads when he said that they’re not considered as ‘talents’ but ‘co-owners.’

“So we cannot fire them because they are not just talents, but they are co-owners of the business. They are producing. So, they are a big part of the creative process. They should be owners. They should be acknowledged and treated as such. And we will treat them that way.” he stated.

It can be recalled that during their stay at TAPE Inc., TVJ were only considered as talents, and Tito even revealed that they were made to believe that they have shares with their former production company.

Vice Ganda gained the attention of the netizens after they noticed his joke about their transfer from TV5 to GMA Network.

During the June 23rd episode of It’s Showtime, Vice was seen hosting the ‘Rampanalo’ segment of the said noontime show, asking a contestant to choose between ten numbers being held by other hosts.

They noticed that the audience was trying to urge the contestant to choose number five, and Vice and his co-host Amy Perez noticed it.

“Parang lahat number 5.” Amy said.

Vice then started to make a joke about the said numbers, saying that he would choose the number ‘7’, the channel of GMA Network, over ‘5’, which is the channel of TV5.

“Dahil magkakaiba, ako na ang pipili. Seven ang number natin.” Vice then said.

The contestant followed Vice’s advice and chose number 7, but he needed to choose another.

“Ang magandang ka-partner ng 7 ay number 2.” the host said, hinting the partnership between Channel 7 and 2.

It can be recalled that It’s Showtime decided not to renew its contract anymore with TV5 amid the reports that they would be required to change the timeslot to give way to the upcoming noontime show produced by former Eat Bulaga hosts Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon.

Fans of It’s Showtime praised the said decision, saying that it would be better to have more competition.

Veteran columnist Cristy Fermin revealed the possible title of the new noontime show of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon on TV5.

It can be recalled that several media outlets already tried to ask TVJ about the possible title, but their attempts failed and only received non-serious answers from the legendary trio.

“So whether ‘Eat Bulaga!’ or ‘E.A.T.’ which can stand for ‘Eto ang Totoo, whatever name it is, kami ‘yun eh. Whatever it is, we will strive to have it continue even past gold, even past 50 years,” said Joey.

Joey even said that they’re planning to change the title of their show every day while they’re waiting for the decision of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) about their appeal to get the trademark of Eat Bulaga.

However, Cristy gained information about the possible name of the upcoming noontime show, including ‘“This is It, Dabarkads”

Meanwhile, Tito was confident that they would be declared as the rightful owner of Eat Bulaga’s title because it’s already public knowledge that Joey invented its name.

“History and the law back us up. Ganoon kasimple. It might take some time, but we will be able to use ‘Eat Bulaga.’ I’m sure of that,” Tito said.

Even Bossing Vic already declared that he would not let TAPE Inc. use Eat Bulaga title for so long.

“You can just imagine after 44 years, minahal mo… ako more than half of my life. Kapag absent ako sa ‘Eat Bulaga!’ parang may kulang sa buhay ko tapos kukunin lang ng kung sino-sino, aba hindi pupuwede… hindi papayag si MVP.”

Rendon Labador, hinati na ang presyo ng kanyang ‘motivational rice’: “Bagsak presyo na!”

Motivational Speaker, Internet Celebrity and Entrepreneur Rendon Labador announced that he would make his famous ‘motivational rice’ cheaper to give chance to more Filipino to try it.

The said motivational rice was part of Rendon’s successful marketing of his restaurant Episode Bar after netizens criticized its P100 price.

Motivational Rice is just steamed rice infused with pandan, so netizens couldn’t stop themselves from questioning why Rendon made it so expensive.

Instead of making it cheaper, Rendon urged the netizens to work harder to afford it.

However, on June 20, the internet celebrity announced that he was making his rice at half the cost.

“Kalahati nalang young presyo para kalahati nalang pangarap na abutin niyo #StayMotivated,” he said.

In an interview with food vlogger Manuel Olazo, Rendon revealed that he added a ‘secret menu’ to his restaurant, an affordable choice for his future customers.

The said menu shows the discounted prices of the meals they’re offering at his bar, including the Ribeye steak that was being offered before for P950 but is now priced at P350.

However, Rendon explained that he only offered a ‘secret menu’ to ‘serve the community’, saying that his restaurant was not located in a high-end area and not everyone would afford the original price of his meal.

“Yung secret menu kasi, to serve the community. Kasama naman talaga sa plan nung una pa lang kasi siyempre nasa QC area tayo, wala tayo sa high-end na lugar. Kung maglalagay ka ng isang high-end restaurant sa hindi high-end na lugar, so parang contradicting,” said Rendon.

Rendon also clarified that he’s still offering a ‘high-end menu’ to cater for his wealthy customers.

“Meron pa tayong high-end menu, tapos meron tayong affordable menu, para pwede mong piliin kung ano ang afford mo. Di pa rin namin tinanggal yung high end. Kasi yun nga yung motivation dun eh, para ma motivate ka at ma-afford yung deserve mo sa buhay, yun yung advocacy natin,” he stated.
