LOOK: Someone compiles alleged “disinformation” related to 30th Southeast Asian Games

A blogger made an effort to compile the alleged “fake news” published on social media to destroy the reputation of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in the Philippines.

On Thursday, Franco Mabanta posted 75 photos on his Facebook page showing the compilation of negative news related to SEA games that already debunked or having a questionable source.

Mabanta said that the compilation will convince the people that the negative news released related to SEA Games is “the single most dishonest and well-coordinated online smear campaign in Philippine history”.

He even explained why some people are trying to ruin the reputation of the SEA Games, saying that someone might want to remove House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano from his current position, or someone is doing some efforts to lessen the popularity of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Here’s some of the photos posted by Mabanta:

Ex ABS-CBN Journalist Ricky Velasco has been debunked by his former network:

The news about Muslims being served with pork in the Philippines:

Nazvi Careem, one of the writes for South China Morning Post apologized for the article.

Some netizens published a two-year-old article to ruin the reputation of SEA Games:

The Kikiam issue:

However, the football coach later apologized and admitted that the breakfast served to her team is not kikiam.

The hotel said that the athletes were served with chicken sausage and not kikiam.

“Like an interrogation!” Gretchen Ho receives criticisms over her style of interviewing a Singaporean athelete

Netizens and bloggers have been criticized journalist and volleyball player Grethen Ho over the tone of her voice while interviewing Singaporean Athlete Mark Shen.

In the interview in can be heard Ho asking questions in a straight manner to Shen and the Singaporean beach volleyball player is trying to answer in the most positive way possible.

“Initially there were lot of rumors about how the accommodation and reception from Philippines was not up to standard but upon arrival in the Philippine, it was really good. The reception from the airport was really up to our expectations. And everything was smooth,” Shen said after being asked about the issues being faced by the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

“We got to our hotel and settle in very quickly. In less than one hour, we were in. The food for day one is enough for us. The (food) quality and quantity is not bad,” he added.

Ho also asked what food did the Singaporean athletes received and the time of their arrival.

The journalist also asked Shen if they experienced any problems during their arrival, but the Singaporean athlete said that they didn’t experience any trouble at all.

Shen also said that the quality of sand in the courts of Subic is better than their previous visits to the Philippines.

The netizens didn’t like the manner of Ho, saying that the journalist is more like interrogating the athlete than interviewing him.

Some accused Ho of “fishing” for negative feedback.

Here’s some of the comments from the netizens:

Blogger Mark Lopez also reacted to the said interview in a sarcastic way.

How to interview a National ATHLETE who will be competing in an INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT to represent his country, by GRETCHEN HO:

Question: How was your arrival? Did you like the airport?

Question: How is the Shuttle service? Did you like the bus?

Question: How is the accommodation? Is there a bed in your room?

Question: How is the food? Were you served kikiam?

Question: How is the venue of the tournament? Do you like the sand surface? Is it overpriced?

End of interview.

Oh, by the way, the sporting event is the 2019 SEA Games Beach Volleyball, and the athlete was Mark Shen from Singapore…

No mention of the actual sport, of the competition, of what it is like to represent your country.

Ho didn’t react on the criticisms she received from thet netizens.

Lawmaker claims that P2.3-B budget intended for SEA games allocated to province of Iloilo

A lawmaker claimed that the budget slashed by Senator Franklin Drilon for the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games was allegedly allocated to Iloilo Province, the opposition politician’s bailiwick.

In a privilege speech at the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Kabayan party-list Rep. Ron Salo said that despite the budget cut made by Sen. Drilon for the SEA Games budget, they’re going to do their best to handle the event.

However, he questioned why Iloilo coincidentally received additional P2.3-B funds after the budget cut for SEA Games.

“I would commend the organizers despite the budget delay and even with the slashing of the SEA Games budget by Senator Drilon amounting to P2.5 billion; we stand ready in showcasing to the world and people our culture and our talents,” Salo said.

“Curiously, however, simultaneous with the P2.5 billion slashed in the SEA Games budget, is the increase in the budget of the various infrastructure projects in Iloilo, by P2.3 billion,” he stressed.

Salo didn’t give more information about his claims, saying that they’re going to focus on handling the SEA Games.

“But all of that is water under the bridge. What we need to do now is to ensure the success of this event, we have successfully done it in the past with the support of our people, and certainly, we can do it again with the same level of support, if not more, from our people,” said Salo.

Meanwhile, Senator Franklin Drilon denied the claims of Salo, calling it as disinformation.

“It is a complete lie. Mr. Salo is a blabbermouth and a purveyor of fake news… A cursory check of the records would disprove the allegations made by MR. Salo and other members of the House of Representatives today,” Drilon said.

Aside from Salo, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano who’s also the Philippine Sea Games Organizational Committee (Phisgoc) Chair and Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero blamed Drilon for the issues happening amid the SEA Games.

According to them, Drilon contributed to the delay in approving the budget.

“Isa kang bayani!” Cop made himself a shield to block an explosion to protect students of Initao College

A policeman is being considered as a hero of the people of Misamis Oriental after he sacrificed his life to save the students from an impending explosion.

In a video posted by netizen Joys Choice Gelogo, it showed Senior Police Officer 1/Police Master Sergeant Jason Magno and other cops trying to stop a man from throwing an explosive to the students of Initao College.

Unfortunately, the cops didn’t stop the man and threw the unpinned explosive near the area of the struggle.

PMSg Magno decided to sacrifice his life by blocking the explosion using his own body.

According to some reports, 10 students and a police officer were affected by the incident and the only casualty is PMSg Magno.

It’s still not known why the suspect decided to do such an act.

The people of Misamis Oriental urged their LGU to commemorate the heroism of PMSg Magno every year.

“Rest in peace sir Jason Magno, your service to our town will forever be commemorated. Your courage and selfless service are truly inspiring! Initao can never repay you, you’ve given so much for us,” netizen Raquella Jean said.

“To Initao LGU, if it may be possible, let this day, November 28, be given to this hero, that every year on this date we shall revive his heroism and service,” she added.

Meanwhile, Initao LGU decided to cancel the activities of their Lantawanan Festival because of the incident.

“We regret to inform you that the activities of the Lantawanan Festival tonight is canceled due to the recent incident in Initao College. Please wait for further updates on when we will resume the activities and until it is declared safe. In the meantime, please refrain from posting pictures and videos of the incident while this is still under investigation. Thank you for your understanding. Our condolences to the family of Sir Jason Magno. We lost a hero today. May his soul rest in peace,” the LGU said.

Lawmaker wants to investigate ‘disinformation campaign’ in the media about SEA Games

Despite the apology from several media outlets, a member of the Congress still wanted to push for the investigation over the alleged ‘disinformation campaigned’ happened a few days ago about the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019.

In a statement, Kabayan party-list Rep. Ron Salo believes that there’s a conspiracy happened between the media and several social media users to lessen the credibility of the said event.

“I have this personal impression that they are the first to have concerted, deliberate, organized malicious disinformation campaign in the media, both traditional and in social media, aim at discrediting the organizers., the games, and the Philippines,” said Salo.

“I will definitely be happy to investigate this particular, fake news being propagated either in the social media or national media, traditional media,” he added.

Salo was concerned about the alleged ‘fault-finding’ by several reporters during the SEA games, saying that they’re only reporting the bad side of the event while ignoring the more important topics.

“This representation is deeply bothered how the national media is treating every single alleged shortcoming in our hosting of the SEA Games, as s if these are more important than the game itself… They appear to be having a feast on featuring all the alleged mistakes but neglecting to report the good experiences of the majority of the delegates,” he said.

Several days ago, the government was swarmed by criticisms after much bad news about the SEA games circulated on television and social media.

Even the President was affected by the news according to the Palace, saying that those mistakes could be resolved easily.

There’s also an incident where a big news website apologized for publishing wrong information after they claimed that Biñan football stadium is poorly prepared for the SEA Games.

“The City Government of Biñan has been doing its best to be a warm host of the 30th SEA GAMES Football Matches and we will not be mute against irresponsible journalism.” Biñan City Information Office stated.

Netizen criticizes a journalist for alleged fault-finding in SEA Games: “That’s why I don’t watch or listen to your network anymore”

A netizen expressed his disappointment over the tweet of a male journalist who entered a female restroom.

On a tweet, journalist Dano Tingcungco reported that there are no conjugal cubicles in a female restroom located at Binan Stadium, but noticed that there’s a urinal for male.

Harold Tan is one of the netizens who criticized the said journalist, questioning why he decided to enter a female restroom and highlighting the said urinal.

On a Facebook post, Tan explained that the urinal inside the female restroom was intended for kids because their mothers cannot assist them inside the male restroom.

According to him, the act committed by Tingcungco lowered his network’s credibility.

“What was Dano Tingcungco doing in a ladies’ restroom? Was he highlighting the urinal inside the same restroom? Hasn’t he heard of mothers who bring their very young boys to the ladies’ room to tinkle, because mothers can’t go to the men’s room to accompany their very young sons?” Tan said.

“GMA News took down the tweet. Fault-finding and ignorance lower a reporter’s reputation. If it chooses to feature the ignorant fault-finding, it lowers the network’s credibility. That’s why I don’t watch or listen to GMA News anymore.” he added.

Meanwhile, Tingcungco explained the story behind the photo, saying that the female restroom he entered used to be a male restroom.

“Part of my coverage yesterday on the PHL Malditas’ opening match vs Myanmar was to see the facilities of our team’s homecourt, Binan Stadium. Binan had a clean, organized area for spectators and media, and also well-appointed restrooms.” Tingcungco said.

“One of the features of the female restroom there was a urinal. Organizers told me that it used to be an all-male restroom but the female restroom was added there because of additional bleachers in the stadium and that the urinal was part of the original men’s restroom,” he added.

“That wasn’t taken out. This morning, event organizer Ariel Serrantes told me they couldn’t remove the urinal before the matches started but instead of covering it, they will repurpose it for toddlers to use,” he also said.

Mayor Inday Sara posted cryptic message amid SEA games controversy: “I told you but you did not listen”

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte posted a mysterious message on her Instagram page amid the criticisms being received by the government because of the Southeast Asian (SEA) games 2019 mess.

On her Instagram post, Inday Sara addressed the congressmen, saying that they’re already taking the consequences of not listening to her.

“I told you so” is a sure-fire way to kick-start an argument. In the same way, “you do not listen” will ignite a conversation into a heated one. May I just say to everyone in Congress, “I told you but you did not listen so there you go.” said Duterte.

Inday Sara is known for opposing House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s leadership in the Congress.

She supported Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco for House Speakership, however, President Duterte decided to form a term-sharing between Cayetano and the latter.

“Congressman-elect Alan Peter Cayetano was correct when he said that he did not seek for my endorsement when he came to Davao to talk to me sometime last year,” Sara said in a statement in May 2019.

“He, however, came with a veiled threat, that if I endorse Representative Velasco for Speaker, I would break up the ‘group.’ And this, he said, will affect the Presidential elections of 2022,” she added.

The presidential daughter made the message amid the tremendous amount of criticisms being received by Cayetano who’s also the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC)  chair because of alleged mishandling and corruption issues in SEA games.

House Speaker Cayetano is not yet giving any comments on Inday Sara’s post.

Raffy Tulfo to his critics: “Ganoon ba kayong klaseng mga magulang, ipapasa niyo sa iba ang pagdisiplina sa inyong anak?”

Journalist Raffy Tulfo spoke again about the controversy he faced after he pushed for the revocation of a teacher’s license in his show.

On Monday, Tulfo admitted that there’s a lapse of judgment in his side, so he quickly tried to convince the complainants to withdraw their previous plans to remove teacher Melita Limjuco’s teaching license.

However, he was saddened after seeing that no one tried to side with the child who received disciplinary action from Limjuco while the teacher received mass support from the netizens.

“Ang dami po sa inyong nakisawsaw, kung ano man ang inyong pakay sa pakikisawsaw, kayo lang po ang nakakaalam ‘non,” Tulfo said.

“And yet ni isa wala man lang reach out sa family maging sa bata, ‘sir, ma’am, iho kamusta kayo?, ikaw ba’y nakakakain pa iho, ikaw ba’y nakakatulog pa, bakit hindi ka na pumapasok ng ilang araw, what is going on?'” he added.

According to him, teacher Limjuco doesn’t have a problem anymore as her issue was already settled, but she’s still receiving help from the netizens.

He said that the issue is an awakening call for the netizens to be aware that there’s a law that protected the students from receiving extreme disciplinary actions from teachers.

Tulfo pointed out that the Department of Education (DepEd) released a memorandum in 2012, reminding all teachers that there’s a limitation on giving disciplinary actions to their students and that would be zero tolerance.

He also said that DepEd on the same memorandum ordered the creation of the ‘Child Protection Committee’ (CPC), a group consisting of principal,  teachers, guidance counselor, barangay officials and social worker.

However, Tulfo said that the creation of CPC didn’t follow by most of the public schools around the country.

The journalist revealed that he already talked to the child and he really pitied him.

He insisted that the real victim in this issue is the child and not the teacher, however some netizens are still criticizing the student.

“Maraming nagsasabi na tama lang yan, kailangan talaga ay saktan… ganyan ba kayong klaseng mga magulang? Dahil hindi niyo kayang  idisiplina ang inyong mga anak so ipinapasa niyo yung pag didisiplina sa ibang tao,” he exclaimed.

Tulfo said that he doesn’t want his children to experience the disciplinary actions he faced during the time when there’s no law that would protect him from teachers.

“Let’s think of the children, wag po yung ating makasariling kapakanan, wag po tayong sawsaw ng sawsaw, para lang tayo’y may masawsawan para tayo’y sumikat o kung ano man ang agenda natin,” he said.

“Look at the real victim, who is the real victim, meron bang nag sorry sa bata? wala? ni isa sa inyo walang nag mention about the child welfare, what is going on? Eto na ba ang society na meron tayo ngayon?” he added.

Meanwhile, Tulfo invited the complainants Jefferson and Rosemil Edroso to his program.

Jefferson and Rosemil denied that they apologized to Limjuco as part of the settlement and they complained about a lawyer who spread that news on social media despite a gag order.

Tulfo also described the appearance of Jefferson and Rosemil, saying that they’re really affected by the issue.

Before the end of the video, it can be seen the journalist stopping himself from fuming and wishing that the netizens who criticizing him would not experience what the Edroso family is facing right now.

“Kung sa inyo kaya mangyari yan? I pray to God na wag mangyari sa inyo yan, dahil pag sa inyo nangyari yan ay baka maghurimentado kayo, madaling magsalita kasi hindi nangyari sa inyo yan,” said Tulfo.

“I’m sorry again kung ako po’y nakapagbitaw ng mga salita ngayon, kasi when it comes to children, I’m really emotional, I’m here to protect the children, I will not stop,” he added.

Robredo to tell her findings on anti-drug ops to public: “Hindi nila ako kilala. Nagsisimula pa lamang ako.”

After being fired by President Rodrigo Duterte, it seems that Vice President Leni Robredo is ready to fight back as she said that she’s going to reveal the information she learned during her time as the co-chair of ICAD.

According to Robredo, she would tell the nation about the things she discovered during her three-week term in ICAD.

The Vice President is also going to reveal her recommendations to the agency.

Sa mga susunod na araw, magbibigay ako ng ulat sa bayan. Sasabihin ko ang aking natuklasan at ang aking mga rekomendasyon,” she said.

Robredo also has a message to his critics.

Kung sa tingin nila matatapos ito dito, hindi nila ako kilala. Nagsisimula pa lamang ako.” Robredo told the press.

The Vice President said that she’s sending reports to Malacanang, however, it seems that the palace is just trying to ignore her.

She then asked the government if they’re trying to hide something important to her that’s why they decided to fire her instead of letting her do her job.

“Kung pareho naman ang ating layunin, bakit hindi na lang tayo magtulungan? Hindi ba talaga sila seryoso sa laban? O may interes ba tayong nabangga?” she said. “Ano ba ang kinatatakutan ninyong malaman ko? Ano ba ang kinatatakutan ninyong malaman ng taumbayan?” she said.

Yesterday, the Palace confirmed that President Duterte decided to remove Robredo as co-chair of ICAD because of still unknown reasons.

However, in several of his speeches, the President gave a hint that he doesn’t “trust” Robredo because of talking to the foreigners during her first week as co-chair of ICAD.

“Ang problema kay Robredo, after she was appointed she began talking publicly about inviting the Human Rights Commission, she was talking to the United Nations, at marami na siyang pinagsasabi,” Duterte told the reporters on November 19.

“Kung ganon, sabi ko… ‘I cannot appoint her as a Cabinet member’ if that is her mouth behaves, kasi kung cabinet member sana siya, she have the authority because she’s an alter-ego of me,” he added.

“I cannot trust her, not only because she is with the opposition, I do not trust her because I do not know her, hindi ko alam kung sino ang kausap niya, hindi ko alam kung sinong mga politiko o sinong mga tao,” he also said.

Senate President Tito Sotto also believes that the loss of trust of the reason why Duterte removed Robredo.

“The appointment of the Vice President as ICAD co-chair is based on trust. Once trust is lost, the position is lost. We have a word for it in Filipino – Sayang,” Sotto said.

Myanmar football coach describes their problem during their arrival in PH as “small issue”

The football coach of Myanmar Men’s football team Velizar Popov set aside the question by some media about the problem they’re encountered during their arrival in the Philippines.

In an interview, Popov said that the discomfort they experienced during their arrival is just a “small issue”.

“Obviously somebody didn’t do his job the best possible way, because everybody knows when we arrive, there is no bus, we waited almost an hour,” Popov said.

Popov refused to talk about their arrival experience anymore to the media.

“That’s a small issue for me. It is not a big deal and I don’t want to talk more about it because it is not the main thing in the tournament,” he said.

Meanwhile, House Speaker and PHISCOG Chairman Alan Peter Cayetano visited the affected teams including Myanmar and personally apologized for the inconvenience they experienced.

“Sa mga foreign teams, talagang we are apologizing for the inconveniences or if I may call it inefficiencies or miscoordination,” said Cayetano.

According to a Facebook post, Myanmar waited for several hours before a bus arrived at the airport.

The bus they used is also too small so the football team members were crumpled inside.

They planned to do some training in the country, but it’s now postponed because of the problems they experienced.
