A teenage beauty queen captured the attention of the netizens after she was spotted selling “pilipit” or twisted bread to her neighborhood in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

Monika Afable was crowned as the Sinulog Festival Queen in 2020 and now being called as ‘humble queen’ on social media because of being not ashamed to peddle goods.

Her grandmother, Sisa Balan couldn’t hide her happiness to see her granddaughter working despite being crowned as a beauty queen.

In an interview, she decided to sell pilipit because she wanted to earn money for herself and her family amid the pandemic.

“We started selling again yesterday. I help my grandmother in preparing and I also sell it. Half kami nang kikitan-in kasi gusto ko mag save kasi kulang pa yung pera ko pang bili ng puppy hehe,” she said.

According to her, she’s not ashamed of what she’s doing.

“No, I am not ashamed. My grandmother always told me that you should not be ashamed of anything as long as you will not harm anyone. I also love helping my family, help my grandma, because by this I can help her and I love to see her smile,” she said.

Thousands of netizens praised Afable for her humility.

A flight attendant who also couldn’t work because of the pandemic decided to sell ‘pares’ on the street to earn money.

 

Mayor Isko Moreno to jail parents who will allow children to go out of their houses: “I don’t mind kung mapuno ang ating mga kulungan”

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno said that he’s going to order the police to arrest all parents that would allow their children to go out and play despite the community quarantine being implemented.

Moreno made the said announcement after it was reported that there were 1,039 people violated the Ordinance No. 8644 (Mandatory Use of Face Mask in Public) mostly minors while 9,367 were caught violating Ordinance No. 8547 (curfew).

According to him some of the minors who got caught were found to be positive in COVID-19.

He ordered Manila Police District Brigadier General Rolly Miranda and Manila Department Of Social Welfare director Re Fugoso to file charges against the irresponsible parents.

“Let’s start jailing irresponsible parents. I don’t mind kung mapuno ang ating mga kulungan ng mga pabayang magulang dahil sa paglabag sa Ordinance No. 8243 (Anti-Child Endangerment Ordinance of the City Manila). Hard time requires hard decision para mapigilan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19,” Moreno said.

A fine of P5,000 or six months’ jail time await parents or guardians of abandoned minors aged 12 and below; P3,000 or three months’ imprisonment for guardians of minors aged 13 and 14; and P2,000 or a month’s incarceration if the minor is 15 to 17 years old.

Many concerned netizens of Manila City reported children and parents staying outside without a mask.

Netizen Chards Guittu also posted the scene he witnessed in Quirino Avenue, showing children playing in the middle of the road and people interacting to each other without protection.

As of writing, there are 3248 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Manila City.

To fight the pandemic in his city, Moreno bought 3 COVID-19 testing machines capable of 16,800 tests a week.

“Makakapag-test ang mga ito ng 50 samples per hour. Uunahin natin ang lahat ng doctor, nurse, mga healthcare workers, starting with Ospital ng Maynila, para mapanatag sila,” the Mayor said.

“Kung kaya nito mag-50 per hour sa 16-hour shift ng ating mga medtech, makakagawa na ng 16,800 per week ang tatlo nating machines,” he added.

Sunshine Cruz discovered that even the schoolmates of her daughters were also making brazen comments about her and to her children, Angelina, Sam, and Chesca Cruz.

On Monday, Cruz made a series of Instagram stories to show how they were being disrespected on social media and she couldn’t believe that even the schoolmates of her daughter are thinking the same.

In the first photo, Cruz who’s using her Instagram page sunshinecruz718 posted a screenshot from a Facebook page rating her and her girls.

Cruz expressed disappointment after seeing the number of reactions gained by the photo.

She also discovered a thread consisting of the schoolmates of Cruz’s daughters.

The schoolmates were identified as Thirdy Fajardo, Keno Damiles, and Joshua De Jesus.

They were studying at a prestigious school in Manila.

“Schoolmates pa ito ng mga anak ko. Hope you will also have to courage to say this in front of our faces at hindi lang sa Facebook..” Cruz wrote.

It’s not yet known the plans of Cruz against the schoolmates of her daughter.

Fajardo, De Jesus, and Damiles has yet to give comment on the post of Cruz.

A few days ago, Cruz already criticized the ‘predators’ who are making inappropriate comments about her and her daughters.

“Sad na ginagawang rason ng mga manyak na ito na naka swimsuit or shorts daw kami,” Cruz said.

“Do not blame women for the choice of clothes they wear. Believe me kahit nakabalot o gown pa kami sa beach may mga bastos pa din. Never blame women rather blame yourself dahil kahit pinagaral kayo ng mga magulang mo, lumaki parin kayong bastos at manyak,” she also said.

Marvin Agustin has gone viral after a long time due to a photo of him circulating on social media.

Netizens shared a photo of Agustin sleeping with artist Markki Stroem, claiming that the two are in a relationship.

Some said that the photo might be edited, but until now, Agustin and Stroem have yet to comment as of writing.

A few years ago, netizens already assumed that the two celebrities are already in a relationship.

Netizens also spotted that Agustin and Stroem traveling together.

In a report by Pep.ph, it showed that many Instagram users congratulated Stroem after he posted a vacation photo together Agustin, his family, and friends.

Lawyer warns pro ABS-CBN celebrities of possible charges: “Dear artistas: Make sure your meltdowns don’t amount to inciting to sedition”

A lawyer reminded the celebrities who supported ABS-CBN to ensure that what they’re posting on social media about the government would not be against the law.

In a Facebook post, Attorney Trixie Cruz-Angeles said that after the House of Representatives decided to junk ABS-CBN franchise application, celebrities, and Kapamilya supporters would surely become vocal on social media to criticize the government.

She then reminded the Kapamilyas about ‘inciting to sedition’ and posted valuable information about the said law.

“Eto po ang mga examples ng inciting to sedition:”

“1. paghihikayat na saktan o maghiganti laban sa opisyales ng gobyerno.
Ex: Yung manawagan na sunugin ang bahay ni Congressman X dahil bumoto siya laban sa isang batas”

“2. magkalat ng libelong kamumuhian ang isang opisyales ng gobyerno lalo na kung ang libelong ito ay magiging dahilan sa hind pagtupad ng mga tunkulin ng nasabing opisyales
Ex: Yung pag tag bilang drug lord sa isang opisyal,”

“3. Yung paghihikayat na manggulo o wasakin ang katahimikan ng bayan,”

In another post, she said that celebrities should avoid being carried away by their feelings and still check if what they’re posting on social media would not be against the law.

“Dear artistas: Make sure your meltdowns don’t amount to inciting to sedition or inciting to rebellion or libel. Especially scurrilous libels (see Revised Penal Code art 142 on inciting to sedition). Also mind the safe spaces act as well,” she said.

“Otherwise, carry on. The amount of information you reveal about your character, such as a lust for vengeance, capacity for hate, shallow appreciation of people and overall anger management issues, is utterly fascinating,” she added.

A few months ago, several private individuals were arrested for posting bounties and threats against President Rodrigo Duterte.

Teacher Ronnel Mas was arrested by the members of NBI after he offered a bounty on President Duterte’s head.

“I will give 50-M reward kung sino ang makakap*tay kay Duterte #NoToABSCBNShutDown,” Mas said.

The court, however, cleared Mas of the charge of inciting to sedition due to extrajudicial confession.

Even former actress Mystica was charged by inciting to sedition for her online statements against President Duterte.

Gretchen Barreto denies that she’s supporting ABS-CBN franchise: “I AM PRO DUTERTE!”

Former actress and socialite Gretchen Barretto denied that she’s supporting ABS-CBN after the House of Representatives junked the franchise application of the said television network.

In a series of Instagram posts, Barreto disowned a Twitter account named after her that expressed support to the 11 lawmakers who pushed for the franchise of ABS-CBN.

“THIS IS A FAKE TWITTER ACCOUNT!!! I Have Not made a single statement regarding congress & abs cbn ???” Barreto said.

“This is a FAKE Twitter ACCOUNT! I DO NOT HAVE A TWITTER ACCOUNT. I AM PRO DUTERTE ???,” she also posted.

Rita Avila, who’s a known supporter of ABS-CBN couldn’t stop herself from giving comment on Barreto’s post.

“You are right, no single statement made,” Avila said.

When netizens asked if Avila’s comment to Barreto was a sarcastic one, the former clarified that she’s supporting the latter for being ‘truthful’.

“Hmmm, I think some didn’t get my comment right. I am supporting Gretchen for her truthful caption. Tutoo ang sinabi nya,” Avila commented.

Bianca Gonzalez to the boy who ‘unfriended’ his father for being against ABS-CBN: “Yakap!”

Bianca Gonzales raised the eyebrows of some netizens after she tried to comfort the Twitter user who has gone viral lately after he ‘unfriended’ his father and even threatened to stop paying their bills.

On July 11, Twitter user ‘Kirk’ expressed his disappointment to his father who’s in favor of shutting down ABS-CBN for good.

According to him, he’s thinking of leaving his parents and stop paying the house bills.

“I just unfriended my papa. He is in favor of shutting down ABS-CBN. T***ina di ba. Parang bet ko lumayas. Balakayo magbayad ng kuryente jan,” said Kirk.

“Nakapag-post ka ng hate sa FB mo eh ako naman nagbabayad ng internet. Paputol ko na kaya,” he added.

Kirk made the post after the 70 lawmakers junked the franchise application of ABS-CBN.

Gonzalez, who’s also active on Twitter, saw the post of Kirk and sent virtual hugs to the heartbroken woke.

“Yakap, Kirk,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez received criticisms from the netizens and accused him of encouraging people to ‘cancel’ their own parents due to different beliefs.

“Bianca Gonzalez should be ashamed of herself. She is a role model for the Filipino youth and here she is encouraging them to throw their parents under the bus just because they differ in their opinion on, of all things, a trashy brand like ABS-CBN. Such an appalling example being set by such a revered celebrity. It’s no wonder ABS-CBN suffered the fate that had befallen it,” blogger benign0 said in his piece about Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, another blogger, ‘Banat By‘ claimed that he was privately messaged by Gonzalez to apologize for the misunderstanding.

“Magandang gabi po. Inako ko po ang pagkakamali ko, hindi ko intensyon na kunsintihin ang disrespect sa magulang. Magulang din ako, at anak din. I apologized for the post. God bless,” she reportedly told Banat By.

Twitter became a favorite place to hang out by the generation z on the internet because some of them felt that they have more freedom to express themselves on the said social media platform.

A few months ago, the teacher who got arrested by the authorities after he placed a P50-M bounty on President Duterte’s head said that he was using Twitter to express his thoughts independently.

 

 

 

Kim Chiu slams lawmakers for prioritizing closing down ABS-CBN instead of helping people amid pandemic

Kim Chiu couldn’t hide her disappointment anymore to the lawmakers who voted against giving ABS-CBN a new franchise.

In an Instagram post, Chiu addressed the 70 lawmakers who opposed ABS-CBN, saying that she’s hoping that they decided “based on conscience, not pride; based on Facts, not ego; based on truth, honesty, and service; not vengeance,”

She also thanked the 11 lawmakers who voted in favor of the franchise of ABS-CBN.

According to her, the ABS-CBN executives who attended the 12-day franchise hearing of the House of Representatives showed composure despite being grilled many times by the lawmakers.

“Our AbsCbn leaders did everything they can. Proved them wrong, showed everything, gave EVERYTHING to protect its people. Stayed calm amidst being bullied,” Chiu said.

“Did 13 hearings na paikot ikot, ABSCBN proved that we have NO violations,” she added.

Chiu questioned why the lawmakers didn’t prioritize the pandemic, instead chose to focus on questioning ABS-CBN and pushing for the controversial anti-terror bill.

“In the middle of this pandemic. Pagpapasara ng Abscbn and pagpapatupad ng anti terror bill ang nangyayari. What is happening to our country?” she asked.

On Twitter, Chiu also asked the lawmakers about the purpose of the hearing on ABS-CBN franchise.

“Wala namang violations na nilabag, nangako naman na aayusin ang mali, para saan pa at nag HEARING??? Para saan yun? Para magpahiya? sorry for my words pero sobrang grabe lang po talaga ang nangyari,” Chiu said.

Kim Chiu has gone viral again on social media after she made another mistake that made different reactions from the netizens.

Yesterday, Chiu made another error while defending ABS-CBN after she mistakenly used the hashtag being used by the critics of the Kapamilya Network.

“#NoToABSCBNFranchiseRenewal” the actress wrote.

The post made her look like she’s already opposing ABS-CBN to continue its operation.

The actress quickly deleted the post, but netizens were quick to take a screenshot of Chiu’s post.

Chiu quickly corrected her mistake by using the right hashtag.

“Grabe. ?Nililito nila ang mga tao. #NOToABSCBNFranchiseDenial”

She also addressed the lawmakers who decided to reject ABS-CBN’s franchise.

“We voted for our law makers into power hoping that they will act for the greater good. But, what happened today?… what happened to the 13 hearings? Abscbn proved na walang violations ang nagawa. Why are we experiencing this? Why now?. Why not help each other for the better?” Chiu said.

Some netizens speculated that Chiu was just really emotional and confused after being informed that 70 lawmakers decided to reject the franchise application of ABS-CBN.

One of the top Kapamilya stars expressed sadness over the decision of the House of Representatives to reject the franchise of ABS-CBN.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Mario Dumaual, Jose Mari Viceral, popularly known as Vice Ganda seems shocked after being informed that his home network failed to get a franchise.

“Kailangan ko lang prosesohin ang naramdaman ko, kasi ngayon ko lang nalaman yung desisyon. So, magulo pa yung nararamdaman ko. Hindi ko alam. Para akong nanginginig na hindi ko alam. Ang alam ko, malungkot na malungkot ako ngayon,” Vice Ganda said.

Viceral pointed out the service gave by ABS-CBN, saying that the network already became part of the daily lives of the Filipinos.

“Buhay ko, buhay niyo, buhay ng audience, buhay ng madlang people, buhay ng mga Kapamilya, buhay nating mga Pilipino. Buhay natin ito.” he said.

“Ang ABS-CBN, ang serbisyong ibinigay niya ay naging malaking bahagi ng araw-araw na buhay ng mga Pilipino. Napakalaking bahagi,” he added.
