Hindi ako mangkukulam! Megan Young addresses Botswanian netizens after touching the hair of Miss Botswana

Filipina beauty queen Megan Young addressed the netizens in Botswana after she was accused of witchcraft during the question and answer portion of Miss World 2024.

It can be recalled that some Botswanians interpreted Megan’s gesture toward Miss World  Botswana Lesego Chombo as witchcraft to remove her confidence during the portion.

Some of them also reminded Megan that touching someone’s hair was not really a good gesture towards black people.

In a statement, Megan recognized the criticism thrown against her and shared that she apologized privately to Lesego for what she did.

“Last night during the final, I fixed Lesego Chombo’s (Miss Botswana) hair on stage. I wanted to offer a helping hand but I failed to oversee the bigger picture. This could have caused distress during that moment and I have been made aware that culturally, this is unacceptable,” she said.

“We have spoken privately last night at the hotel and I have apologized to Lesego in private. To those who witnessed the incident, I also want to apologize for any discomfort or confusion my actions may have caused. It was a thoughtless and disrespectful act, and I take full responsibility for it.

“I assure you that it was not my intention to invade personal space or make anyone feel uncomfortable. I deeply regret my actions and will strive to be more mindful and respectful in the future,” she added.

Meanwhile, Lesego already urged her fans on social media to stop criticizing Megan.

Megan Young, inakusahang mangkukulam ng mga Botswanian matapos nitong ayusin ang buhok ng contestant ng kanilang bansa

Botswana blamed Miss World 2013 Megan Young’s gesture towards Miss Botswana Lesego Chombo for losing the title of Miss World 2024.

During the said pageant, Megan could be seen trying to fix the hair of Lesego during the question-and-answer segment.

However, some Botswanian netizens believed that Megan performed black magic against Lesego, which resulted in their contestant losing.

Some Botswanian netizens even posted a video to prove how Megan performed witchcraft against their contestant.

“In my own opinion, that presenter wasn’t fixing Lesego’s hair. And there was nothing wrong with her hair. The presenter wanted to remove Lesego’s confidence and also show judges that it wasn’t her natural hair but a wig,” a Botswanian netizen said.

“Today our Queen was restless tota…she could feel the negative vibes brought by the judges and that made her weaker inside though she confidently responded to the questions…. the Masons vs the kingdom of light…..” another netizen wrote.

However, Filipino fans quickly defended the Filipina beauty queen, saying that Megan has no supernatural ability to perform magic.

Many people in Botswana still believed in witchcraft and people being accused as witches in the said country often experienced bad treatment.

In black culture, it’s also not a good gesture to touch someone’s hair.

They were often blamed in their country for misfortunes happening.

As of writing, Megan already apologized for her gestures, saying that she didn’t mean any bad intention towards Miss Botswana.
