Mel Tiangco talks about fight against ABS-CBN: “Sobra ang panlalait sa akin, para akong ipis nun”

Mel Tiangco is known for generation z televiewers as a top reporter of GMA-7, but not everyone knows that she worked in ABS-CBN and faced a legal battle in the ’90s against her former network.

In an interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal in 2013, Tiangco made a rare statement about her tiff with ABS-CBN, recounting how her former network gave her hell after transferring in GMA-7.

Kasi kung meron mang bahagi ng buhay ko na may matinding pinagdaanan ko-iyon, eh,” Tiangco said when asked if she want her life story to be featured in tv show ‘Magpakailaman’.

According to her, she was treated like a cockroach during that time.

“Kasi sobra ang panlalait sa akin. Sobra ang pagtapak sa akin. Dini-describe ko nga nun na, feeling ko, para akong ipis nun,” she said.

Tiangco then revealed she’s still confused about why the company she loved so much treated her so badly.

“Ang natutunan ko lang sa experience na yun, ‘You cannot put a good man down. Kasi, you know, I love that company very much. I gave everything I had. Bakit nila ako ginaganito?’” she said.

Despite not receiving an apology from ABS-CBN, Tiangco said that she already forgive the people behind her sufferings.

It can be remembered that Tiangco faced a legal battle against ABS-CBN and even reached the Supreme Court after she was suspended without pay by the television network for appearing in a detergent commercial without the company’s approval.

She’s a former host of the television program “Mel and Jay” in ABS-CBN together with Jay Sonza.

Sonza resigned from the television show, while Tiangco went on indefinite leave. Later on, the two journalists decided to cancel their contract with ABS-CBN.

In 1996, Tiangco and Sonza reunited in GMA-7 on their new talk show “Partners Mel & Jay”.

The Supreme Court favored Tiangco and Sonza, saying that there’s no evidence that GMA-7 tried to tempt the two journalists to leave ABS-CBN.

In January, Tiangco was featured in a special clip of TV Patrol introducing her as one of the host of the news program.

The story has been recirculated on social media after the franchise issue of ABS-CBN has been brought up.

Veteran journalist Jay Sonza is not yet done with ABS-CBN as he criticized the broadcasting network again on his new social media post.

Sonza, who’s a journalist for ABS-CBN for 12 years, claimed that the broadcasting network didn’t use their own money to help people.

Sonza is confident about the information he posted and claimed that he’s the one running the foundation for ten years.

“I should know we were running the foundation for ten years. 1986-96,” he said.

The journalist then asked the television network not to ask sympathy to the public amid their possible closure because of the franchise issue.

It’s not yet known if Sonza is referring to the ABS-CBN foundation which is founded in 1989 or another organization affiliated to the broadcasting network.

The post already reached 2,700 reactions on social media and 1,000 shares as of writing.

After the government filed a quo warranto petition against ABS-CBN, supporters of the broadcasting network brought up the goods things did by the company to other people.

Recently, a news report about Yolanda survivors supporting the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN has been published on social media.

Robin Padilla slams ABS-CBN executive’s questionable labor practices: “Harapin natin ang issue, wag natin idaan sa drama”

Actor Robin Padilla responded to the tweets of ABS-CBN production executive Ethel Manaloto-Espiritu and also revealed something about one of his former bosses in the said broadcasting company.

On February 14, Espiritu questioned the timing of Padilla’s criticisms against ABS-CBN and asked him why he didn’t fight for the rights of the employees of the broadcasting company in the past.

As a response, Padilla told Espiritu that he already talked about the complaints of the employees in 2018 during the time he’s working in ABS-CBN as a main cast of television show “Sana Dalawa ang Puso”.

Padilla recounted that he talked to former Environment Secretary Gina Lopez, who’s also the daughter of ABS-CBN Chairman Emeritus Eugenio López, Jr. about the complaints and wishes of the non-regular employees of the television network giant.

The actor then mentioned another executive producer Rocky Ubana who’s a former boss of Padilla in his sitcom “Todamax” and revealed something surprising about the latter.

Padilla asked Ubana if the higher-ups of ABS-CBN are aware that he’s a subcontractor of tent.

He also criticized Ubana for his questionable labor practices as a subcontractor.

Minimum ba? May overtime ba? Registrado ba yun agency mo?

Padilla then thanked the ABS-CBN executives for providing a job for his relatives, however, he insisted that he’s different from them.

In the end, the actor urged the ABS-CBN executives to face the franchise and labor issues and avoid putting drama on it.

“Ang issue dito ay franchise at labor yun ang harapin natin wag natin daanin sa drama i already apologized pero kung gusto niyo pa walang problema sa akin we can run the whole marathon,” Padilla said.

“Ang kukulit kasi!” Pangasinan Rep. wants temporary closure of Daang Kalikasan to motorist

A lawmaker from Pangasinan wants to close down Daang Kalikasan road in Mangatarem, Pangasinan after reports several mishaps happened to some motorists who wanted to see the newly opened way.

On a statement, Congressman Jumel Anthony Espino of 2nd District of Pangasinan said that they already asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the local government unit (LGU) of Mangatarem to temporary bar the motorist from accessing the road because of safety issues.

Espino also pointed out that the influx of tourists in Daang Kalikasan also caused problems to the Mangatarem LGU as they need to clean the trash left by the undisciplined visitors.

According to Espino, closing down Daang Kalikasan would give the government more space to finish the project and add more safety features to the road.

Daang Kalikasan is a 14.6-kilometer road linking Mangatarem Pangasinan and Sta. Cruz, Zambales. It was expected to finish in 2021.

The said road became an instant tourist spot after netizens and bloggers shared how beautiful the said place is.

However, Daang Kalikasan’s sudden popularity caused problems to the LGU of Mangatrem as hundreds to thousands of motorists are traveling to the said road every day.

ABS CBN executive responds to Robin Padilla’s comment against ABS-CBN : “Kung talagang makabayan ka, dapat pala shinare mo sa kanila ang blessings mo”

An executive of ABS-CBN responded to actor Robin Padilla’s lengthy letter challenging the top talents of the big television companies in the Philippines to show their salary and compare it to their colleagues working in lower positions.

Ethel Manaloto-Espiritu, production executive of ABS-CBN, posted a series of tweets after Robin Padilla apologized for his comments against the broadcasting company.

Espiritu said that Padilla should not apologize for his comment and stand to his beliefs about the franchise issue of ABS-CBN.

Espiritu then asked Padilla why the latter only talked about the problems of ABS-CBN now while he became a talent of the said television network for many years.

“Angel Locsin best said it, “think before you click”. You cannot post something then blame it on being the ex-convict in you that overtook your emotions, Mr.Robin Padilla. Its either pinanindigan mo misplaced emotions mo or never post at all. Ganun lang yun,” Espiritu said.

The executive told Padilla that he should distribute his blessing to his colleagues as he’s enjoying a big paycheck during the times that he’s working in ABS-CBN.

“Isa pa, kontrata pala hamon mo. Napakalaki ng per taping day sahod mo. Sino presidente nun? Ahhh. Okay. Noted,” she stated.

Let us practice what we preach.” she added.

According to Espiritu, she’s only disappointed with Padilla’s message against his colleagues and ABS-CBN.

The actor should just talk to his friends and colleagues in showbusiness but he decided to resort in criticizing the network publicly.

“Kaya nalulungkot kaming Kapamilya niya. Puwede naman niya kaming kausapin. Madami siyang kaibigan sa amin kahit magkakaiba kami ng pinapaniwalaan at pinapanindigan sa buhay,” she said.

She also asked why Padilla brought up the labor cases filed against ABS-CBN in his posts.

“If he says he is pro renewal. Thank you. Pero meron pala siyang ibang issues, bakit nakasabay? Di ba dapat ibang usapan na yun? Or let DOLE handle it? ABSCBN always takes accountability. We will take accountability if me complaint. Sabi nga niya, no one is above the law,” the executive asked.

It can be remembered that Padilla urged the ABS-CBN artists to defend the rights of their colleagues before protecting the television network.

He even called the artists who support ABS-CBN as overdramatic.

“Anytime ako anywhere ilabas natin mga contract natin let us compare our salaries to our kapamilya co workers at isama niyo na mga kapuso at mga kapatid. Magpalabasan na tayo para makita ng publiko let us give it to them tutal napakadrama ninyo gawin na nating teleserye punuin natin ng revelations ang isyu na ito na dapat pinag uusapan sa korte at congress. Hindi lahat sa mundo ay Showbiz at Politics one way or the other the revolution of the people has to be realized!” the actor stated.

Five out of seven suspect in the ‘balloon vendor prank gone wrong’ are minors

Until now, the netizens are still talking about the prank that had gone horribly wrong in Pancan, Manila and they became more disappointed after discovering that most of the culprits who almost burned a vendor alive are minors.

According to the authorities of Pandacan, Manila, five of the seven suspects they invited to the Barangay Hall are minors.

The victim who identified as Oliver Rosales even claimed that the suspects seemingly had no regrets over the damage they caused.

Rosales received burns from his right arm and leg.

In an interview with GMA-7, Rosales accepted P35,000 from the parents of the suspects as part of their settlement.

Rosales, however, warned the suspects not to do the same thing again to others.

“Wag na lang nilang ulitin sa ibang tao kasi hindi lahat ay marunong magpatawad,” he said in an interview with Stand for Truth.

Despite what happened to his son, Nicolas Rosales, the father of the vendor said that he pitied the parents of the suspects.

However, it was reported that journalist Raffy Tulfo wanted Rosales to pursue filing charges against the suspect.

Tulfo said that he wanted the suspects to face the consequences of what they did that’s why he asked Rosales to return the settlement money to the parents of the culprit.

The journalist also offered a new business and legal aid to the vendor.

“Hindi nila alam ang gagawin!” Former Kapamilya host explains why quo warranto petition is a surprising move by govt. against ABS-CBN

A veteran journalist explained why the quo warranto petition filed by the Office of the Solicitor General against ABS-CBN is a surprising move that may be caught the television network giant off guard.

Jay Sonza claimed that while the executives of ABS-CBN are already prepared for other ways so they could still operate even after their franchise expires in March 2020, they didn’t expect to face a quo warranto petition from the government.

According to Sonza, one of the possible moves by ABS-CBN is to get a temporary license to operate to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) so they could still operate while the congress is still not discussing their franchise renewal.

Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano also recently suggested to the House Franchise panel to submit to the NTC a document supporting the temporary license for ABS-CBN.

However, if the quo warranto petition granted, there’s a possibility that the Supreme Court orders ABS-CBN to close down even with the temporary license.

Malawak ang kanilang karanasan dito or so they thought. Sanay sa gapangan at patraydor na lakaran ang mga Lopez,” Sonza who’s a former journalist working for ABS-CBN said.

“Subalit, ngunit, dadapuwat iba ang Quo Warranto petition ng Office of the Solicitor General.

“First of its kind ito against them.

Sonza said that if the Supreme Court favors the quo warranto petition, the ABS-CBN could face more problems aside from being forced to close down.

“They will be facing mounting law suits for fiscal recoveries, multiple estafa cases which are non-bailable. Underground financial gods and demigods are not gentle on those who they feel double crossed them,”

“Sa madaling salita, nasa bingit sila ng kumunoy! and they only have themselves to blame. Why? Because they chose to employ the mouth of hell, instead of singing Lullaby for Rody,”

The post of Sonza as of writing already reached 3,800 shares and 9,300 reactions.

A radio host criticized television host Vice Ganda, Jose Marie Viceral in real life after the latter called the critics of ABS-CBN as ‘trolls’.

On February 11, Viceral made a tweet to defend ABS-CBN from the criticisms online.

She then proceeded in calling the critics of ABS-CBN as internet ‘trolls’.

Tapos di nagbayad sa tong its.

One of the netizens who saw the tweet of Viceral is radio host Mark Lopez who’s a known supporter of the government and a critic of ABS-CBN.

On his Facebook post, Lopez said that Viceral’s only talent is to make a joke by mocking other people.

“Sure Mr. Jose Marie Viceral, you can mock and belittle those who are making a stand against your network’s egregious sins against the Filipinos,” Lopez said.

Trolls talaga ha?” he added.

“No wonder ikaw ang poster child at pambato ng ABS CBN. You and your so-called talent,” he also said.

The radio host then sarcastically thanked Viceral for contributing to what’s happening now to the taste of Filipinos when it comes to cinemas and television shows.

Lopez believes that one of the reasons why the some people are supporting the franchise expiration of ABS-CBN because they wanted to ‘level up’ the content being watched by the televiewers.

“Perhaps there is a reason why the clamor to shutdown the Kapamilya Network is much louder than all of your shrill and bravado. By the way, thank you so much for contributing heavily to the dumbing down of our citizenry,” Lopez said.

The post of Lopez reached 4,600 reactions on social media and 462 shares.

Angel Locsin admits not renewing her contract with ABS-CBN: “Mahal ko sila at hindi po ito drama”

Amid the possible closure of ABS-CBN, Angel Locsin admitted that she decided not to renew her contract with the television company giant, citing personal reasons.

On her Instagram, Locsin dedicated a post to all her colleagues in ABS-CBN, recounting the problems she heard from all the staff working with her.

She said that all the staffs, from cameramen to caterers are the ABS-CBN itself.

Locsin then revealed the reason why she decided not to renew her contract with ABS-CBN.

“I may have not renewed my contract with ABS since I’m preparing for my wedding,” the actress stated.

However, despite not being a talent of ABS-CBN anymore, Locsin said that she’s going to fight for the people that could be affected by the closure of the broadcasting company and urged the netizens to think before saying anything on the internet.

“These men will always be my family and I will stand by them.

We have families that rely on us kagaya nyo rin po. Konting pag-unawa lang po. Isang pakiusap,”

Kapamilya viewer writes open letter to ABS-CBN: “My respect for you is totally lost because of your very biased reporting”

A loyal Kapamilya subscriber for many years writes an open letter to ABS-CBN criticizing them on how they reported terrible things about former Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

The open letter has been recirculated on social media four years after netizen Uriel Emmanuel Soriano originally wrote it to tell the television network giant that he already lost his respect to them.

Soriano accused ABS-CBN of releasing twisted reporters about President Duterte, putting the former candidate in a bad light.

He mentioned how the television network twisted the statements of President Duterte about Pope Francis and his controversial jokes.

Soriano also said that releasing the psychological test results of Duterte showed that they don’t care about confidentiality.

The netizen urged ABS-CBN to deliver their news reports fairly next time.

You can read his whole post below:

“I am a Kapamilya viewer for all my life. I’ve been faithfully watching your shows every night because they are made with such quality that it’s totally entertaining and fun to watch. I also made it a habit to watch TV Patrol because of your accurate and truthful news, especially when our former Vice President and Kabayan Noli de Castro delivers them in his trademark style,”

“But now, my respect for you is totally lost. Wanna know why?”

“Because of your very biased reporting. In your pathetic attempts to tarnish the image of our beloved Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte, you went as far as to violate the rule of confidentiality by presenting Duterte’s psychological tests results as public information. Not only that! You even willingly violated the principle of fairness and equality!”

“You are supposed to be the vanguards of responsible, fair, impartial and truthful journalism! But, what happened now? You deliberately twist reports involving our Mayor in your attempts to tarnish his image! Your headlines in your reports about him are such that they show him in a bad light! For example, when he allegedly cursed the Pope, you only showed the part of the video where he said “P****g i*a, umuwi ka na!” which led to many people misinterpreting him as being rude to the Pope, when he was actually cursing about the way the government handled the traffic situation during the arrival and stay of Pope Francis in our country (He was stuck for many hours in traffic that he has to pee in a bottle while inside the car!) and, although the curse was uncalled for, we really cannot blame him for it!”

“You have violated this very principle by totally disregarding the good traits of our Mayor and highlighting his bad traits. You only showed reports which can be used as potential tools for political mudslinging. You failed to understand his motivations behind every deed and every word he says. All because you have become a tool of those ambitious presidential candidates in their pathetic attempts to tarnish the good image of our Mayor.”

“You are supposed to be independent, not affiliated with any political, corporate, or cultural interests. Right? But it’s obvious that you have journalists who are affiliated with presidential candidates, and that constitutes a conflict of interest which affected the way you report on certain individuals (e.g.: showing Roxas and Aquino in a positive light while showing Duterte in a negative light). Why are you protecting them? Because you’re afraid to risk losing their alliance? Or because you are protecting your personal interests?”

“ABS-CBN, please stop all the black propaganda and deliver your news reports fairly and impartially!”

“Yours truly,

Uriel Emmanuel Soriano
Concerned Kapamilya”

The open letter which created in 2016 has surprisingly gone viral this year amid the talks about the possible closure of ABS-CBN.

As of writing, it already reached 3,000 shares on social media.
