RR Enriquez, walang nakikitang problema sa itinayong resort sa Chocolate Hills: “I don’t see anything wrong”

RR Enriquez believed there was nothing wrong with building a resort in a UNESCO Heritage Site like the Chocolate Hills in Bohol.

In her Instagram post, the so-called ‘Sawsawera Queen’ said that some countries like Switzerland allowed resort building around mountains.

“I don’t see anything wrong with this especially if it will help our tourism…. I remember going go Switzerland year 2016 and meron sa taas ng bundok na famous parang hotel with jacuzzi resort sila dun,” Enriquez said.

However, she believed that the controversial establishment in Bohol, the Captain’s Peak Resort, was not beautiful enough to attract tourism.

“To be honest ok sana yung idea na ito.. Kaso bakit po hindi man lang ginandahan? Hindi man lang instagramable? Paano po tayo makaka attract kung wala pong nakaka attract CHERET,” she stated.

“I love the idea po but failed po sa execution. Please maglaan kayo ng magadang budget for that,” she added.

Unlike Mt. Titlis, the Chocolate Hills in Bohol were a UNESCO Heritage Site.

The post received mixed reactions from the netizens.

“It’s an eyesore! It would have been better if the design was thoroughly thought through and aesthetically appealing for tourists; unfortunately, it looks cheap,” netizen Janua said.

“Agreee with u @rr.enriquez i dont see any problem..minsan oa lng talaga ang mga pinoy magreact .and yesss super tama ka nd man ginandahan or bononggahan since nasa chocolate hills na sya dba..love u ms rr..stay sawsawera,” netizen Martin remarked.

Lupa namin ‘to!

The owner of the controversial resort built in Chocolate Hills narrated how they started to build the infrastructure on what they called ‘private land.’

In an interview last year by The Freeman, Julieta Sablas, the administrator and the sister of the owner of Captain’s Peak Resort said they bought the land in 2005.

According to them, they’re not planning to build a resort in Chocolate Hills.

They said that owning land in a protected area is not easy despite being envied by many.

“It’s very stressful. They are like this, this, you are very lucky to have this, protected area. Nah, the most troublesome! Your projects, if you have a proposal, you still have to present it to them,” Sables said in Cebuano.

When tried to interview by the media last year, the Mayor where the resort was built refused to speak on the said issue.

They also said that before building the resort, they ensured that they complied with the Protected Areas Management Board (PAMB) for every requirement needed.

However, they admitted that some parts of the hill were developed while the resort was being built.

Some parts of the UNESCO Heritage Site were also excavated for the access road project.

In another interview, Sablas insisted that they didn’t damage the area.

“Sila lang po ang nagsasabi na nakakasira, pero kapag nandito po kayo sa area namin, talagang hindi po eh,” she said.

“Sana patas, patas ‘yung gagawin nilang imbestigasyon. Hindi lang po Captain’s Peak Resort,” she added.

Captain’s Peak sa Chocolate Hills, ikinalungkot ang pambabatikos na kanilang natanggap: “We received necessary approvals”

The controversial resort built in Chocolate Hills was saddened by the backlash it received from the netizens.

In an official statement, The Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort, which went viral on March 13 after receiving complaints from the netizens and environmental groups insisted that the construction of their business around Chocolate Hills was legal.

“It is important to clarify that our construction plans underwent rigorous scrutiny and received the necessary approvals from relevant authorities, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). We have complied with all environmental regulations and have taken measures to minimize our ecological footprint throughout the development process,” the resort management wrote.

“We acknowledge the significance of the Chocolate Hills as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and recognize our responsibility to safeguard its integrity. We assure the public that our operations are conducted with utmost care and consideration for the environment,” they added.

The management said that they were open to dialogues to discuss the issues they needed to resolve.

Captain’s Peak has already announced its temporary closure on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, DENR said they already issued a Temporary Closure Order on September 6, 2023, against the resort.

“In the case of the Captain’s Peak Resort, the DENR issued a Temporary Closure Order last September 6, 2023, and a Notice of Violation to the project proponent last January 22, 2024, for operating without an ECC,” DENR wrote.

“As of March 13, 2024, the Regional Executive Director Paquito D. Melicor issued a Memorandum directing PENRO Bohol Ariel Rica to create a team to conduct an inspection at Captain’s Peak for its compliance with the Temporary Closure Order,” they added.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) admitted they had been aware of the resort built in the iconic Chocolate Hills in Bohol since last year.

In an official statement, DENR said that Captain’s Peak was supposed to be closed as they had already issued a Temporary Closure Order last September 6, 2023.

According to DENR, Chocolate Hills was declared a protected area on July 1, 1997, under the administration of then President Fidel V. Ramos to preserve the landscape of the tourist spot.

However, they said that if the lot where Captain’s Peak was built was already privately owned before July 1, 1997, the “rights and interest of the landowner will be generally be recognized and respected”, but may “impose certain regulations or restriction of the land use and development within the protected area,”

In a video posted last March 6 by Ren The Adventurer, the said resort was still operating as of writing.

Kathryn Bernardo reportedly forbade her friends to mention the name ‘Daniel,’ according to veteran columnist Cristy Fermin.

In her online show ‘Showbiz Now Na,’ Cristy said that she heard several information on how Kathryn was trying to move on after her 11-year relationship with Daniel Padilla.

One of Kathryn’s reported styles was to avoid discussing any topics about her ex-boyfriend.

It can be recalled that Kathryn and Daniel decided to call it quits last year, however, they didn’t disclose the reason for their breakup.

However, several netizens speculated that Kathryn was the one who ended her relationship with Daniel due to the alleged unfaithful nature of the actor.

There were reports that Kathryn also didn’t want to be with Daniel in any of her future projects anymore.

Super jackpot!

Senator Raffy Tulfo revealed surprising information related to the suspicious occurrence of lotto winners under the leadership of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office General Manager Mel Robles.

Tulfo discovered that there were two winners who won the jackpot multiple times in just 30 days, prompting the lawmaker to assume that there was fishy happening in PCSO.

“Ito nga po ang sabi ko medyo nakakataas ng kilay, meron doon na isang tao nanalo ng 20 times in one month. Meron doon 10 times in one month,” said Tulfo in an interview with DZBB.

“Siguro baka magkapangalan pero still pare-pareho ‘yung premyo ang pinanalunan…Paulit-ulit in one month… Lalong tumambak ang mga questions,” he added.

It can be recalled that Tulfo already noticed that people winning the lotto jackpot were becoming more and more frequent.

He suspected that the implementation of e-lotto contributed to the frequent winners.

“Bakit tuwing draw, parati na lang may nananalo? Ngayon, wala nang palya. Noon, nung wala pa itong e-lotto, sobrang tagal bago manalo ang kahit sino. Minsang umaabot ng isang buwan, dalawang buwan,” said Tulfo.

“Bakit tuwing draw, may nananalo na? Ngayon, walang mintis. Samantalang noon panahon na wala pa tong E-lotto, ang tagal bago panalunan. Inaabot ng isang buwan, dalawang buwan,” he added.

Meanwhile, Robles said that PCSO can easily investigate the legitimacy of Tulfo’s revelation.

Apo Whang Od receives criticism from netizens for touching Piolo Pascual

Tattoo artist Whang-od received criticism on social media after she touched Piolo Pascual’s private part during the actor’s visit to Kalinga.

The said video, which was uploaded by Piolo on his social media pages received reactions from the netizens, some calling the action of the legendary ‘mambabatok’ as inappropriate.

According to some netizens, the reactions would be very different if a man committed the same act to a younger woman.

“What Apo Whang Od did is hindi tama and don’t close your eyes sa fact na iyan just because she is an icon. Imagine if it’s an old man who did that? Everyone, if not all, will be pissed off. Kaya I don’t understand bakit nagsa-san all pa kayo,” netizen Unprox said.

However, others didn’t see something wrong with Whang-Od’s actions, saying that she was known for touching her guests.

They also reminded the people that Piolo allowed Whang-Od to touch him.

“Stop contextualizing Indigenous People’s laws, customs, and practices under the lens of Philippine las. Your views on existing civil/crim laws are under the lens of foreign context which fails to recognize pre-exisitng,” netizen Inevitable remarked.

As of writing, Piolo has yet to release a statement about the reaction made by the netizens against Whang-Od.

Miss Botswana Lesego Chombo asks her countrymen to stop criticizing Megan Young

Miss World Botswana Lesego Chombo asked her countrymen to stop criticizing Megan Young for touching her hair during the question-and-answer portion of Miss World 2024.

It can be recalled that Megan, who was crowned Miss World 2013, tried to fix Lesego’s hair.

Some Botswanian netizens accused Megan of performing witchcraft against their candidate to remove her confidence during the pageant.

However, Lesego believed that the criticism thrown by her countrymen against Megan would not help her cope with her loss.

“Batho Bame (Good People), I appreciate that you are all looking out for me, but it really doesn’t make me feel good when you bring other people down in my name or for my sake. Please be kinder, please to (Miss World 2024) Krstyna Pyszkova, to Megan, be kinder,” she wrote.

Megan already released an official statement, saying that she already apologized to Lesego, saying that she was not aware that touching someone’s hair was inapproriate in their culture.

“Last night during the final, I fixed Lesego Chombo’s (Miss Botswana) hair on stage. I wanted to offer a helping hand but I failed to oversee the bigger picture. This could have caused distress during that moment and I have been made aware that culturally, this is unacceptable,” she said.

“We have spoken privately last night at the hotel and I have apologized to Lesego in private. To those who witnessed the incident, I also want to apologize for any discomfort or confusion my actions may have caused. It was a thoughtless and disrespectful act, and I take full responsibility for it,” she added.
