Vic Sotto vows to retain ‘Eat Bulaga’ title: “Parang may kulang sa buhay ko tapos kukunin lang ng kung sino-sino”

Television host Vic Sotto vowed to retain the title of their noontime show Eat Bulaga from Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE Inc.) after their transfer to TV5.

During the media conference on June 20, 2023, Vic talked about the possibility of them taking the title Eat Bulaga despite already being used by their former production company which the Jalosjos family owns.

According to Bossing, they’re not yet deciding on what title they would use for their new show on TV5 because they really wanted to use ‘Eat Bulaga’.

Bossing Vic said that for 44 years, Eat Bulaga became part of his life so he couldn’t imagine using another title for their new noontime show.

He even mentioned TV5’s chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, hinting that the tycoon would help them to retain the title.

“You can just imagine after 44 years, minahal mo… ako more than half of my life. Kapag absent ako sa ‘Eat Bulaga!’ parang may kulang sa buhay ko tapos kukunin lang ng kung sino-sino, aba hindi pupuwede… hindi papayag si MVP.” he said.

Meanwhile, Joey de Leon joked that they would change the title of their show every day.

“Pwede kunyari Monday sasabihin ni Pareng Vic na ‘Our title of the day…’ Joey said.

Tito Sotto then responded, saying that they’re seriously trying to insist on their right to use Eat Bulaga title.

“We are definitely working on the legal side for ‘Eat Bulaga.’ Si Joey ang nag-imbento no’n e. History and the law back us up…it may take some time, but we will be able to use ‘Eat Bulaga.’ I’m sure of that.” Tito explained.

As of writing, TAPE Inc. was still using Eat Bulaga title for their show on GMA Network, gaining criticisms from the netizens who believed the company should stop using the title after TVJ left them.

However, observers believed that TAPE Inc. would not give up Eat Bulaga title without having legal proceedings between them and TVJ.

TVJ said that they will carry Eat Bulaga segments to their new show on TV5: “I-enhance pa namin”

Tito Sotto revealed that they’re planning to bring the segments they made for Eat Bulaga to their new program on TV5.

During the media day for their upcoming new show on June 20, 2023, Sotto said that they would not only retain the said segments including ‘Pinoy Henyo’, ‘Bawal Judgmental’, ‘Juan for all, All for Juan’, but they’re planning to enhance it.

He also revealed that they’re planning to add two more portions for their new show.

“Pinag-uusapan na namin ‘yung enhancement ng mga portions na minahal nila, i-enhance pa, we will not rely on what we have before,” said Sotto. “And there will be new two portions na ipapasok, pinag-uusapan na namin na ang gusto namin ay magustuhan ng mga kababayan natin,”

“Kami madali kaming kausap, kapag nakita mo for 44 years, pag may portion kami na pinasok at hindi masyadong kagat, out agad,” he added.

Eat Bulaga fans expressed approval of the plan of TVJ to retain their segments.

It can be recalled that Sotto said that the segments were owned by the creative writers who left Eat Bulaga with them last May 31, 2023.

“We plan to have new portions. Kami mismo, no’ng pinaguusapan pa lang namin ‘yung mga new portions, natutuwa kami, mga bago pa. But we will also get ‘yung mga portions na gusto ng ating mga kababayan like Bawal Judgemental, Pinoy Henyo, Juan for All,” he said.

Tito Sotto reacts to decision of It’s Showtime to transfer to GTV: “There’s room for everyone,”

Former Senate President and Eat Bulaga host Tito Sotto made his reaction after It’s Showtime, the current holder of TV5’s noontime slot decided to transfer to GTV.

It can be remembered that TV5 originally planned to renew its contract with ABS-CBN and transfer Its Showtime to a nighttime slot and give its noontime slot for the new show made by the original hosts of Eat Bulaga who left GMA Network on May 31, 2023.

The decision of It’s Showtime would start a three-way ratings rivalry on the noontime slot.

However, Sotto believed that it’s more important for people to be happy by having more choices about what to watch during lunchtime.

“When we started ‘Eat Bulaga’ in 1979, the population of the Philippines was only 47 million. ‘Eat Bulaga’ lang ‘yon at ‘Student Canteen.’ Now we are 110 million. There’s room for everyone,” Sotto said.

“Ang pinakamaganda ay mapasaya natin ang ating mga kababayan. There’s a common denominator among us, lalo na ‘tong mga Dabarkads and ang production namin, loyalty,” he added.

TV5 President and CEO Guido R. Zaballero also said that the decision of It’s Showtime was a victory for televiewers.

“We respect the decision that they made. Ang pinakaimportante kasi is at the end of the day, panalo ‘yung Filipino viewers. This is a good day for TV. It proves that TV is really alive,” Zaballero said.

“Ang ire-retain lang ay sila Jose, Wally Allan,” the comedian said. “Mineeting kaming tatlo, we were offered this much,  sabi namin ‘hindi naman ganoon kadaling mag desisyon, could you give us time?'”

The ‘Pambansang Ilong ng Pilipinas’ also admitted that he was not aware of the talent fee he would receive from their new show on TV5.
