74-year-old jeepney driver receives help from the owner of the vehicle he sideswiped

Netizens were touched by a story of a 74-year-old jeepney driver who, instead of being obligated to pay for the damages of the van that he sideswiped, even received help from the owner of the vehicle.

In a Facebook post, Kamz Alvarez shared how she was touched by the story of the jeepney driver who’s still working despite his old age.

According to Alvarez, her relatives asked the driver to pay the damages. Still, when she was informed that the old man’s salary would be deducted by his operator, they stopped demanding money from him.

“So dahil tulog na ko, they asked for his id and yung operator ang nagbayad sana sa “damage” na kakaltasin sa sahod ni tatay.” Alvarez narrated.

“Imagine sguro kung may means lang sya d na sya papasada ng jeep. Sabi ko ibalik na lang yung money skanya at isuprise sya with bigas and groceries,” she also said.

Instead, they decided to help the driver, who was visibly not fit to work already, by giving him groceries.

“My dad was before a tricycle driver, and I can vividly remember when I was in grade school he was begging the LTO officer not to get his license dahil wala syang pantubos,” she said.

“When I talked to Tatay he was so relieved and thankful, kasi nagmamaintenance pa pala sya. Di daw sya nakatulog kagabi kasi d nya alam paano nya babayaran yun,” she added.

The photo reached thousands of shares and positive reaction from the netizens.

Voltes V: Legacy head writer Suzette Doctolero may banat sa SONA ni PBBM: “Out of touch na”

Voltes V: Legacy head writer Suzette Doctolero couldn’t hide her disappointment over the statements made by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

On July 24, the chief executive claimed that they’re already observed the decreasing prices of basic goods.

“Sa mga nakalipas na buwan, nakita natin ang pagbaba ng presyo ng bilihin sa iba’t ibang mga sektor.” said Marcos. “Napatunayan natin na kayang maipababa ang presyo ng bigas, karne, isda, gulay, at asukal.”

“Malaking tulong ang KADIWA stores na ating muling binuhay at inilunsad. Ang layunin ng KADIWA ay pag-ugnayin ang mga magsasaka at ang mga mamimili. Walang iba pang namamagitan. Walang dagdag na gastos at patong. Maganda ang kita ng magsasaka. Nakakatipid din ang mga mamimili.” he added.

Doctolero, who’s also known as the creator of Encantadia, called Marcos ‘out of touch’ because of his frequent travels abroad.

“Kakabyahe, out of touch na,” she said.

Most of Suzette’s followers agreed with what the writer said.

It can be recalled that many people complained about the effects of inflation in the past two years.

To counter the effects of the rising prices of goods, the Marcos administration deployed Kadiwa stores to sell cheaper products to the Filipinos.

DJ Chacha tries to debunk PBBM claims about lowering prices of goods because of Kadiwa Market

Radio host Czarina Marie “Chacha” Balba-Guevara was not impressed by the claims made by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. about the lowering prices of goods because of his Kadiwa program.

In her tweet, DJ Chacha said that the money being used to make the goods cheaper at Kadiwa markets comes from the taxpayers.

According to her, buying at Kadiwa stores was the same as purchasing goods at normal stores because of the tax being spent to maintain it.

She said that even at the Kadiwa store, people could not buy rice worth P20-kilo, which was one of the campaign promises of Marcos.

“Sa kadiwa stores mababa ang presyo ng bigas pero wala paring bente pesos per kilo. Ang mga bilihin sa kadiwa ay subsidize meaning ginagastusan ng gobyerno para maibaba ang presyo ng bilihin. Gastos ng gobyerno na galing din naman sa ating mga nagbabayad ng buwis, so ending bumili tayo ng mababa sa Kadiwa galing din sa pera natin,” she explained.

It can be recalled that several public officials opposed the said program because of the money being spent to maintain the Kadiwa markets.

Even President Marcos said that they would stop the Kadiwa program when the prices of goods started to stabilize.

E.A.T host Joey de Leon proudly shared that they’re still the ‘king’ of noontime shows after being number one again in last weekend’s rating contest.

In his Instagram post, Joey was noticeably becoming more competitive as he posted the rating achieved by E.A.T last July 22.

According to Nielsen NUTAM overnight ratings, E.A.T gained 4.94% last Saturday, topping its competitors Eat Bulaga and It’s Showtime.

Joey, known for taking swipes against their competitors, made another message that could be addressed to Eat Bulaga.

“Gumawa hindi gumaya! Lumiha hindi kamukha!” said Joey.

It can be recalled that EAT’s closest competitor, Eat Bulaga, had been accused of trying to imitate some of the ideas from its former creative team, who left with the Dabarkads on May 31, 2023.

However, TAPE Inc., the production company behind Eat Bulaga, argued that they legally owned the trademark of the show’s title and its segments.

The competition between the two shows became stiffer after Eat Bulaga surpassed the rating of EAT for one day on July 19.

Several observers believed that EAT was not supposed to introduce their new segment ‘Gimme 5: Laro ng mga Henyo,’ its own variant of Pinoy Henyo, on July 20, but was forced to show it to prevent Eat Bulaga from maintaining its high rating.

Leah Navarro disappointed by PBBM’s claims about lowering prices of goods

Singer Leah Navarro expressed dismay over the claims made by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

She questioned how PBBM concluded that the prices of goods were getting cheaper.

Leah even asked the President if he was even personally checking the prices of goods by going personally to the markets.

“Eh? Pumupunta ba siya sa palengke? Nag go-grocery ba siya? Pisti. Binuang. (nuisance, nonsense)” she said.

It can be recalled that PBBM proudly said that his administration successfully lowered the prices of basic commodities including rice, meat, vegetable, sugar, and fish.

He believed that establishing Kadiwa centers in different parts of the country helped Filipinos buy cheaper goods.

According to him, they have already built 7,000 Kadiwa centers around the Philippines.

“Sa mga nakalipas na buwan, nakita natin ang pagbaba ng presyo ng bilihin sa iba’t ibang mga sektor.” said Marcos. “Napatunayan natin na kayang maipababa ang presyo ng bigas, karne, isda, gulay, at asukal.”

“Malaking tulong ang KADIWA stores na ating muling binuhay at inilunsad. Ang layunin ng KADIWA ay pag-ugnayin ang mga magsasaka at ang mga mamimili. Walang iba pang namamagitan. Walang dagdag na gastos at patong. Maganda ang kita ng magsasaka. Nakakatipid din ang mga mamimili.” he added.

Mayabang kasi? Lawyer writes an open letter to Lea Salonga, reminds the singer to be more respectful with her fans

A lawyer observing the issue involving Lea Salonga wrote an open letter to the international singer, reminding her to be more careful with the words she uttered on social media.

In his Facebook post, Atty. Arnedo Valera of Valera and Associates shared a statement made by Salonga in 2019, in which she said that people should stop using their phones at concerts and theater performances.

In the said statement, Salonga stated that people should leave the venue if they’re just going to use their phones in the middle of the show.

“So yeah. More cellphone users at plays and concerts. You guys have zero manners, zero breeding, zero empathy. If all you’re gonna do while sitting in the front row of a play is hunch over your phone, do everyone a favour and leave. Your presence is disruptive and disrespectful to the actors and the audience.” Salonga said.

“Money may get you theater tickets and your state of the art cellphone, but it can’t buy you class,” she added.

Valera gave his comment on the said statements from the singer, reminding her how her fans made her career successful.

“Your supporters have been there for you, often using their hard-earned money to buy theatre tickets to your shows or merchandise related to your work. This is how they express their love and admiration for your talent. Even the state-of-the-art cellphones are means by which they connect with you, through social media .In essence, the financial investments they make allow them to appreciate and support the art and artists they love,” the lawyer said.

“Furthermore, one must be cautious about conflating class with wealth or material possessions. Class is inherently about how we treat others and interact with the world, not about the tangible things we own or the money we have. To suggest that spending money on things we value, like theatre tickets or technology, somehow lessens our class may inadvertently discourage people from supporting the arts.

“Respectfully, we are all in this journey together. As much as you have been a source of inspiration, remember that it is the same fans that helped elevate you to the heights of your success. Their support, expressed through their financial means, is a testament to their love for your talent and dedication. It is their class, their respect and appreciation for your craft, that has also contributed to your success.”

While Valera said that he understood the point made by Salonga, he said that the singer’s message to her followers showed signs of ‘elitism and arrogance.’

As of writing, Lea has yet to response to Valera’s open letter.

Christopher, who went viral on social media after he recorded his encounter with Lea inside her dressing room, gained 6,600 followers on his social media page.

He then started sharing several videos of his travel and his daily activities while living in America.

In his latest post, the businessman even shared his wisdom with his new followers, urging them to remove procrastination, which became one of the bad traits of Filipinos.

“Isa sa mga problema nating mga Pilipino ang ‘kamamaya-maya na,’ hindi natin napapansin na ‘yung pagpe-pending natin sa mga dapat ginagawa natin ay isa sa mga nagpapabagal ng tagumpay sa ating buhay,” he said.

“Guys, tigilan na ang mamaya na habit kasi time is gold,” he added.

It can be recalled that in an interview with Julius Babao, Christopher asked the netizens not to leave him as he would convince them to like him.

“Sa mga bashers namin, ang dami niyo na. Please don’t leave me. Kasi alam mo this is the beginning of our friendship. Hindi lang naging maganda ‘yung ating panimula, sisiguraduhin ko na kapag nakilala niyo ko ay itu-twist ko yan 160 degrees in to love,” he said.
