Ping Lacson reminds Sen. Robin Padilla to follow the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines after his controversial hand gesture

Former Senator Ping Lacson had reminded Senator Robin Padilla to respect the law after the latter made a controversial hand gesture while singing the national anthem at the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24, 2023.

Padilla became controversial when he was spotted putting his hand on his chest with a clenched fist while pointing his index finger instead of the correct hand gesture that the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines stated.

In his post, Lacson told Padilla that the law must be followed whatever their religious faith was.

“He may have meant well but the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines mandates reverence and respect at all times for the flag and anthem. Sorry, RA 8491 has nothing to do with choosing between faith and politics,” said Lacson.

The Filipino lawmaker defended the said gesture, saying that he was performing “Kalima La ilaha illallah” while showing respect at the national anthem at the same time.

According to Padilla, he made that gesture to show his faith to Islam.

He was also ready to leave his position if he would be barred from doing the same gesture again.

“I always do the ‘Kalima La ilaha ilalah’ with my hand here. Why can’t you do that? I would rather resign than somebody telling me I cannot (practice) my faith,” said Padilla.

“I will never, never exchange my faith to be a politician,” he added.

“Kalima La ilaha illallah” was a practice in Islam to show that they believed that there’s no God but Allah.

Padilla said that he would rather choose to become an ‘imam’ or a prayer leader of a mosque than being a senator.

Friendship over? Former TAPE Inc. exec Malou Choa-Fagar to testify against TVJ camp

Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc’s lawyer, Atty. Maggie Abraham-Garduque revealed that they would present a big witness against Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon to defend themselves against the copyright infringment case filed against them by the legendary trio.

In an interview after the first hearing of the case at the Marikina Regional Trial Court on July 27, Atty. Garduque said that former TAPE executive Malou Choa-Fagar would testify against TVJ and former Eat Bulaga creative director Jenny Ferre.

According to her, they would present a witness to prove that Ferre was really an employee of TAPE Inc. and was hired to create segments for the production company.

They’re also planning to file charges against TVJ and Ferre.

Choa-Fagar was the chief operating officer of TAPE Inc. and stayed for 41 years in the same company.

Many observers believed Choa-Fagar who retired in 2021 also became intrumental to the success of Eat Bulaga and many hosts were known to be close to her.

That’s why many fans couldn’t believe that the former TAPE exec would testify against TVJ.

As of writing Choa-Fagar has yet to give any statement on the issue.

TVJ’s lawyer Atty. Buko Dela Cruz explains the difference between copyright and trademark

The lawyer of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, Atty. Buko dela Cruz of DivinaLaw explained the difference between copyright and trademark amid the complaint they had filed against Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc.

After the first hearing of the copyright infringement case, they filed before the Marikina Regional Trial Court on July 27, Atty. Dela Cruz explained that Eat Bulaga’s copyright, which they claimed belonged to De Leon, was not required to be registered.

Dela Cruz said that the owner of the copyright was the one who created it and it was effective for 50 years even after the possessor already passed away.

“Kung sino ang gumawa, siya ang may karapatan,” the lawyer said. “So dapat wag mong kunin kung hindi ikaw ang gumawa,”

According to him, Eat Bulaga was existing already since 1979 even before the creation of TAPE Inc in 1981.

While TAPE was the registree of the trademark, Atty. Dela Cruz said that the owner of the copyright, allegedly Joey de Leon, was more powerful when it comes to the decision-making related to the brand.

He added that the trademark was required to be registered because of its business-related purposes.

He also said that the court may already decide on the case around September.

It can be recalled that TVJ wanted TAPE to stop using Eat Bulaga’s title, its theme song, and its popular segments.

TAPE reportedly decided to change their theme song as response to the complaint they were facing.

Tito Sotto, Joey de Leon attends hearing of copyright infringement case against TAPE: “Niloloko nila ang tao na sila ang Eat Bulaga”

Tito Sotto and Joey de Leon attended the first hearing of the copyright infringement case they filed against Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc.

On July 27, 2023, the two former Eat Bulaga hosts explained to the public why they wanted TAPE Inc. to stop using Eat Bulaga title and its segments, saying that the production company was trying to mislead the people.

“They’re deceiving the people by saying na sila ‘yung Eat Bulaga,” said Sotto. “Pwede naman nilang ituloy ‘yung programa kung gusto nila pero palitan nila ‘yung pangalan nila,”

Sotto also argued that TAPE had no right to use the old footage of Eat Bulaga or air replayed episodes of the said noontime show without their permission.

It can be recalled that TAPE replayed three episodes of Eat Bulaga when TVJ and other former hosts of the show left on May 31.

According to him, the production company was forcing the public to believe that they were the legitimate Eat Bulaga.

The former senate president also said that there’s a difference between copyright and trademark.

He explained that while TAPE Inc. argued that they owned the trademark of Eat Bulaga, it doesn’t mean that they also own the copyright of the show.

Sotto expressed confidence that the court would give them a favorable decision.

TikToker shows ‘Sinag’ the Philippine Eagle to educate the netizens: “Filipino citizens do not know this eagle exists”

A conservationist and an animal keeper at the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City educated the netizens that the bird printed on the new 1000-peso note really exist in real life.

Through her TikTok page, Lohwana Halaq showed ‘Sinag,’ one of the Philippine Eagles she was taken care of while handling a 1000-peso bill.

According to her, she was surprised that many Filipinos thought that the bird imprinted on the said peso note was fictional.

“From my experience working with these beautiful animals I can truthfully say that it shocks me much our own Filipino citizens do not know this eagle exists or what it even looks like. Despite its high profile status in media, culture and government,” she said.

“I’ve had many guest interactions in which local Filipino visitors come up to ask me: “ma”am, nasaan ang Philippine agila?” , “ma,am where can I find the Philippine eagle?” … I am literally holding the Philippine Eagle on my arm…. I look at them look at my eagle, Sinag, and look back at them and point out “You are staring at the Philippine Eagle”…” she added.

@lohwanahalaq

💰The Money Shot 💰 The head shot of the Philippine eagle species replaced the former 1000 peso bank note design of the three Filipino martyrs and civic rights actitivists of the resistance against the Japanese occupation of World War II. The Philippine eagle is the national bird of the Philippines 🇵🇭  and thus should recieve the recognition it deserves. From my experience working with these beautiful animals I can truthfully say that it shocks me much our own Filipino citizens do not know this eagle exists or what it even looks like. Despite its high profile status in media, culture and government. I’ve had many guest interactions in  which local Filipino visitors come up to ask me: “ma”am, nasaan ang Philippine agila?” , “ma,am where can I find the Philippine eagle?” … I am literally holding the Philippine Eagle on my arm…. I look at them look at my eagle, Sinag, and look back at them and point out “You are staring at the Philippine Eagle”… I have conservations with Filipinos abroad in Canada and I explain to them that I work and live in the Philippines as an Animal Keeper and I help breed the critically endangered Philippine eagle species. Many of them comment: “I did not know we have this eagle in the Philippines”…. my response usually is “did you even open your Filipino passport?” As the Philippine Eagle is also featured in the Filipino Governing passport. It is clear that awareness plays a crucial role in species conservation from local to international recognitions. Education is key. There is improvement, and progress may be is slow, but saving this species from extinction is worth it. #philippines🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 #philippineeaglecenter #philippineeagles🦅🇵🇭 #capcut

We both agreed it would be a great fit and we wanted to work with him right on the spot.”

Betong Sumaya clarifies that they’re not trying to compete with TVJ: “Ipagpapatuloy namin iyong kanilang nasimulan”

Eat Bulaga host Betong Sumaya reacted to the criticisms he received since he accepted to become part of the rebranded noontime show.

In an interview with Pia Archangel, Betong said that they’re only there to make the people happy and not to replace the legendary trio, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon.

According to him, while he was aware of the opinion of TVJ’s fans, he pleaded with the netizens for understanding that they were only doing their job.

“Trabaho natin na mag-entertain ng tao and this is my work. Alam namin iyong kanilang sentimyento, ang kanilang suporta sa TVJ, pero sana maintindihan nila na kailangan din namin po itong gawin bilang part po ng trabaho,” he said.

“Wala kaming hangarin na palitan sila pero ipagpapatuloy [namin] iyong kanilang nasimulan and iyon sana, bigyan din kami ng chance na makapagpasaya ng mga tao,” he added.

It can be recalled that Betong and other new hosts of Eat Bulaga had been receiving criticisms from the netizens and accused them of trying to copy the style of the original Dabarkads.

Rendon Labador was not happy with the response made by Vice Ganda to the criticisms he received due to the gestures they made during the ‘Isip Bata’ segment of It’s Showtime.

It can be recalled that several netizens raised their eyebrows after they saw how Vice and his boyfriend Ion Perez sensually ate a cake icing in front of several children.

Rendon was one of the celebrities who called out Vice and Ion for doing such acts in front of innocent children.

“Wala namang masama na mag baklaan kayo, pero sana ilugar ninyo ang kahayupan! Huwag sa show ng mga bata!” said Rendon.

“I support & respect the LGBTQ+ community pero yung mga ganitong klaseng tao ay hindi pwedeng itolerate! Mas masahol pa ito kay Pura Luka Vega,” he added.

Vice then took a swipe against Rendon, criticizing his way of trying to be relevant

“Kung anu ano na talaga ang pinapasok at ginagawa ng ilang tao para lang sumikat no? Yung kahit magpakatoxic kakaririn nila basta makaamot lang ng relevance. How pathetic! Ang sad! It’s not mothering!” the comedian wrote.

The motivational speaker responded to the tweet made by Vice, saying that the comedian must apologize.

“I’m expecting a public apology. Hayup talaga! Wala talagang paki alam sa mga bata!” said Rendon.

Eat Bulaga hints a new theme song amid the copyright complaint they receive from TVJ

Rebranded Eat Bulaga made a hint about their possible new theme song amid the copyright infringement case filed by Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon against Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc.

In the teaser posted by TAPE Inc, they excitedly announced that their fans would hear something new on July 29 at the 44th-anniversary episode of Eat Bulaga.

“Malapit niyo na itong mapakinggan!” TAPE said in their post.

Meanwhile, a fan page for Eat Bulaga gave another hint about the surprise being prepared by the production company.

“May bagong nota, mapapakingan na ng sambahayang Pilipino sa darating na sabado,” My Sparkle Notebook page wrote.

Several observers believed that TAPE decided to change the theme song of Eat Bulaga because of the complaint filed by TVJ against them.

The current theme song of Eat Bulaga was written by Vic Sotto.

However, it was possible that TAPE Inc. may prove that they legally own the rights to the said piece if they commissioned Vic to write the song for them.

Currently, TVJ’s show E.A.T was using a different version of the said song, only replacing the word Eat Bulaga with ‘E.A.T’.
