Sen.

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, during an interview with Karen Davila on January 9, called the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) as a way to buy votes.

During the interview, Dela Rosa said the program was unpopular among the senators in 2024 as they were not informed by the House of Representatives who introduced the said program.

He described the P5-B budget allocation for AKAP in the senate as appeasement or ‘pampalubag loob,’ so the bicameral committee would accept the program.

He also declared that his office would not accept any budget from AKAP as he opposed the program.

“No, I will not take it (AKAP budget allocation). Kahit na hirap ako sa eleksyon. Kahit na wala akong pampalubag loob doon sa kung sinong dapat lulubagin natin ang loob. I will just appeal to their moralities na wala akong maibigay sa inyo dahil ayaw kong sumali sa programa na ino-oppose ko…Dapat consistent tayo, walang irony–iba ‘yung sinasabi, iba ‘yung ginagawa,” said Dela Rosa.

He also said that the reelectionist may use AKAP to buy votes.

“Pambili ng boto ‘yan, ano pa ba ang isipin natin diyan, kung tutuusin sana kung out of the picture ang politiko diyan, without the presence of the politicians, napakaganda sana [na programa]” said Dela Rosa.

He also doubted that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), who would set the guidelines for AKAP, would survive the resistance of the politicians who would be forbidden to get involved in the distribution of payout.

“Kaya ba nila yan? In the end of the day, magsusumbong ang mga congressman, mga mayor na, mga politiko na ito sa Malacanang ‘bakit ‘yung DSWD tinanggalan kami ng papel diyan sa aming allocation’ so very complicated talaga,” he said.

It can be recalled that the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) allowed the distribution of AKAP during the midterm election period as long as no candidate is present in the payout.

After being wed, the two visited Slovenia last December for a Christmas holiday vacation.

However, the vacation suddenly became a nightmare after Factural and Kocjančič had an argument, which ended with the suspect ending the life of his wife.

He also attended some events to share his past with the youth of Slovenia and encourage them not to be afraid of transforming themselves for the better.

After scanning some of his posts, Kocjančič had a troubled history, contributing to the tragic event.

The suspect was now under psychiatric care after the authorities found him showing signs of mental health problems.

Commission on Filipinos Overseas confirmed the incident

On January 10, 2024, The Commission on Filipinos Overseas confirmed the passing of Facturan and sent their condolences to the families and friends of the victim.

The incident sparked discussion on whether the Philippines should start implementing stricter rules for foreigners to marry Filipinas and urged the Commission to prevent the same incident in the future.

“Stricter rules for Filipinas marrying out immediately without a long and exclusive dating history, and mental/psychological health records and police records requirements of foreign spouse should be considered these days, nakikiramay po sa naulilang pamilya,a tragic death of a beautiful soul!Rest in peace kabayan!” netizen Laian said.

A Slovenian national reportedly ended the life of his Filipina wife seven days after they arrived in Slovenia.

The suspect, Mitja Kocjancic, 30, was spending his holiday vacation with the victim, Marvil Facturan-Kocjancic, 27, whom he just married last July of 2024.

Photos published by Kocjancic also showed how they enjoyed their Christmas vacation together and roaming different parts of Slovenia.

According to the report from local Slovenian news websites, Facturan was allegedly received severe physical treatment and was stabbed to her end by the suspect.

On December 29, neighbors reported that Mitja and Facturan were having a loud argument, which prompted them to call the authorities.

When the authorities arrived, they saw Mitja who locked himself inside his home.

They received some resistance from the suspect before they finally decided to forcefully access the house.

The authorities then found the lifeless Filipina beside her husband who was visibly agitated.

Kocjancic was brought to a psychiatric facility due to his condition.

Reports showed that the suspect only met the victim last April 2024 and decided to get wed after three months of dating via a civil wedding in the Philippines.

As of writing, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has yet to give a statement on the issue.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) warned and reminded the politicians that they’re not using their own money to dictate the financial aid programs of the government.

During a press conference, COMELEC chairman George Garcia said that the guidelines set by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) should be followed and not any rules created by public officials.

“Ang programang ito ay hindi pagmamay-ari ng mga politiko, bakit sila ang pipili ng beneficiaries?” Garcia asked.

“Dapat ang masunod ay ang guidelines ng DSWD, hindi guidelines na gawa ng politiko,” he added.

He also reminded the public that the funds used for the program came from the taxpayer’s money.

“For our fellow Filipino that is your money. You have the right to claim it. Therefore, you are entitled to it. We will insist that it does not belong to them (politicians), that is why we monitor, disqualify, and sue,” he said.

“This is a fair warning to all, especially agencies distributing the assistance. So that the Comelec will not be blamed and the aid people receive from this exemption will not be used for vote buying,” he added.

It can be recalled that the faces of politicians were visible in some distribution areas of AKAP funds.

Veteran host Vic Sotto answered the press’s questions about the actors and actresses who agreed to appear in director Darryl Yap’s movie about the life of Pepsi Paloma.

In an interview with the media, Vic said that he understood that the casts of the shows were only there as part of their profession.

“Trabaho lang yun. No problem,” said Vic.

The film included some well-known and talented artists, including Gina Alajar (as Charito Solis), Sharmaine Buencamino (as Pepsi’s mother), Mon Confiado (as Dr. Rey de la Cruz), and Rosanna Roces (as Divina Valencia).

Some artists remained silent on Vic’s decision.

It can be recalled that Vic filed 19 counts of cyber libel charges against Darryl and asked the director to pay P35-M in damages.

The damages may increase if they find that the issue affected Vic’s contract.

Vic’s camp also petitioned for a writ of habeas data to prevent Darryl from publishing the movie.

Meanwhile, Darryl said he was ready to face Vic in the court.

Vic’s name was mentioned in the film’s trailer, which, according to his lawyers, affected his family, including Pauleen Luna and Tali Sotto.

The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205, on January 9, had ordered the issuance of a Writ of Habeas Data after actor Vic Sotto filed it.

Presiding Judge Liezel Aquitan issued the petition filed by Vic Sotto on January 7.

“Finding the Petition sufficient in form and substance, let a writ of habeas data issue directing respondent Darryl Ray Spyke B. Yap to submit a verified return of the writ within five (5) days from receipt thereof in accordance with Section 10 of A.M. No. 08-1-16-SC,” the document read.

Sotto’s legal counsel, Atty. Enrique “Buko” dela Cruz of DivinaLaw said that the court’s decision would require Yap to remove all related posts about Sotto in relation to the film planning to be released by the director about the life of late actress Pepsi Paloma.

“In the meantime, po, the writ was issued, so ibig sabihin po ‘yung hinihiling namin sa writ granted. Ititigil po muna lahat nung mga postings, etc.; in the mean time, pinapasagot siya [Yap] dun sa aming reklamo,” said Dela Cruz.

Atty. Dela Cruz also cautioned the netizens to stop posting and discussing the topic on social media.

The lawyer also said that they also asked the court to stop the release of the film on February.

‘Ibinaba ko pride ko’ Keempee de Leon, nakipag-ayos na kay Jode de Leon matapos ang limang taong tampuhan

Keempee de Leon narrated how he made an effort to reconcile with his father, Joey de Leon, after five years of not seeing each other.

In an interview with Pep.ph, Keempee admitted that his feud with his father started when he was removed from Eat Bulaga in 2015 after 14 years of being a host in the noontime show.

According to him, he was not given any explanation as to why he was removed, which made his anger accumulate.

However, five years after not talking to his father, Keempee finally moved in January 2024 to see Joey during Father’s Day by visiting the Eat Bulaga set.

Keempee said his father couldn’t believe he would visit him to greet him on Father’s Day.

Several months after their meeting, Keempee then visited their home to attend a party.

This was where Keempee and Joey became emotional.

Sa akin, yung iyak ko is more of joy. And yung peace na nagkapatawaran kami,” he added.

It’s not yet known if Keempee will return to hosting as Eat Bulaga was already under a different management.

Eat Bulaga host Vic Sotto’s camp asked Director Darryl Yap to pay up to P35-M in damages after the latter involved the comedian in his movie about the late actress Pepsi Paloma.

Sotto was accompanied by his lawyers from DivinaLaw on January 9, 2025, to file 19 counts of cyber libel against Yap before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court.

The complaint included a prayer of ₱20M for moral damages and ₱15M for exemplary damages.

The damages may increase depending on Sotto’s endorsement contracts, which would be impacted by the issue.

In an interview, Sotto said he has nothing personal against Yap, but he wanted irresponsible people on social media to be held accountable for their actions.

“Sa mga taong nagtatanong, sa aking mga kaibigan, kapamilya, a lot of people have been asking me ‘anong reaksyon mo?’ eto na po ‘yun […] eto na po ‘yung reaksyon ko,” said Sotto.

“Sabi ko nga e, walang personalan ito, I just trust in our justice system, ako ay laban sa mga iresponsable tao lalo na sa social media,” he added.

Meanwhile, Atty. Buko dela Cruz of DivinaLaw said that Yap could not hide behind artistic freedom, saying that every artist has freedom of expression unless their creation would be libelous.

“You know, we are the product of the choices we made,” said Atty. Dela Cruz. “Walang proteksyon na ibinibigay ang batas sa libel, so hindi mo pwedeng gamitin ang creative license bilang depensa sa libel,”

“Malaya tayong magpahayag, malaya tayong gumawa ng pelikula and exemption lang [ay] wag kang gagawa ng libelous,” he added.

Magalong, ibinunyag ang umano’y pamimigay ng pondo ni Romualdez sa mga kongresista na sumasama sa kanya

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong revealed the reason why several congressmen were trying to maintain a good relationship with House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

In an interview, Magalong revealed the ‘777 scheme,’ under which members of Congress who agreed to accompany Romualdez on his sorties would receive an additional budget for their programs.

He said the lawmakers would receive a P7-M budget for AKAP, Medical Assistance of Indigent Patients (MAIP), and TUPAD.

“Every time na sumama ka sa sortie ni Speaker [Romualdez], every congressman gets 7-7-7 million na AICS or AKAP, 7 million na MAIP, and 7 million na TUPAD, that’s about 21 million,” said Magalong.

“Kung naka-apat ka ba naman na sortie then 21 times is four is eighty four million pesos,” he added.

Magalong also expressed his disappointment as the lawmakers tried to make it appear that they were using their own money when distributing aid to their constituents.

“Akala mo parang pera nila, palalabasin pa nila, ipaparamdam pa nila sa tao na galing sa amin ‘to,” he stated.

P21-B was allocated to the Congress for the AKAP program in the 2025 National Budget.

The mayor feared that the candidates might use the said programs to boost their campaign.

As of writing, Romualdez has yet to give his response to Magalong.

Paolo Contis admitted that he would also discourage his daughters from meeting a man like him in the future.

In an interview during the program ‘Your Honor’ hosted by Tuesday Vargas and Buboy Villar, Paolo said that he was afraid that his daughters, Xonia, Xalene, and Summer, would date a man similar to him.

“Hindi ka natatakot, Pao, na may makilala rin sila na kagaya mo?” Tuesday asked.

“Ayun ang number one na ikinakatakot ko.” Paolo responded.

Paolo admitted that his past mistakes during his previous relationships were not excusable.

He even said that he may become physical just to protect his children from people like him.

“Sige dahil na-open mo na yung about sa kids, me as a person, ever since naman, the goal is to be a guy na gusto mong manligaw sa mga anak mo ay katulad mo ng ugali. Sadly, you make mistakes, nagkakamali ka,” he said.

“Now, masasabi ko na kung yung Paolo mga ten or fifteen years ago, ayun ang ipakilala ng anak ko sa akin, naku. Dyusko, Lord, sasampalin ko talaga yon!” he added.

Paolo also insisted that he was trying to be a better person, especially since he’s already 40.
