Street performer and comedian Jhonwel Reyes who’s popularly known as ‘Green Soldier’ received criticisms on social media after how he handled a joke made by his fans about his baby.
The issue started when Reyes posted a maternity photo of himself and his partner where he was seen wearing his iconic green soldier costume,
Netizens joked and asked Reyes if his baby is going to be color green also which the street performer took seriously.
“Ganda mo sana kaso mukang kula ka sa [utak] o sa pansin?” Reyes said.
In another post, Jhonwel then asked the netizens to stop making a joke about his child.
“Hindi ko alam kung bakit masyadong maraming apektado masyado, ang daming kumakalat na hindi magagandang salita sa picture namin ng mahal ko,” he said.
“Gusto ko lang sabihin na sana magkaroon po tayo ng simpleng respeto sa kasiyahan ng bawat tao. Syempre napakalinaw ‘yung anak ko, normal na tao yun syempre, naka-custome lang naman ako eh, alangan naman na maging iba talaga ang kulay ng anak ko,” he added.
However, instead of following Reyes’ request, thousands of netizens criticized the ‘onion-skinned’ attitude of the comedian.
A page featured the comment of Reyes to his fan and made a sarcastic message about the incident.
“Huwag mong bibiruin ang isang COMEDIAN hayaan mong ikaw ang biruin nila,” the page wrote.
“Ang Propesyonal na komedyante kayang sabayan ang lahat ng biro.” netizen Rosemarie Mirabel said.
“Pwede naman si greenman rumebat but in a nice way di ung pinahiya pa nya ung nagtanong ng pa joke lng naman, dba comedian si greenman? so, dapat expect na nya na di maiiwasan na may mga ganyang jokes or madamay ung family nya sa jokes, kaya ready na dapat nya self nya sa mga ganyang scenarios..” netizen Dranoj Gnivri commented.
“Komedyanteng pikon,” netizen Apo Aq Ni Lola remarked.
Fans of Reyes came to the rescue, saying that people should not make a joke about a child.
“Biruin niyo ng lahat huwag mo lang idamay ang anak!!! Dahil ibang usapan na yun para sa isang magulang.” netizen Vhans Allirotsuaf said.
