Agot Isidro to critics of Carlos Celdran: “Respeto naman sa pamilya niya!”

Actress Agot Isidro defended tourist guide and activist Carlos Celdran from the netizens who criticized the latter.

According to Isidro, the netizens should respect the relatives of the activist who’s mourning to his demise.

“RESPETO naman sa pamilya at mga mahal niya. You may not like what he did or how he did it, pero huwag naman tayong bastos,” Isidro said referring to Celdran.

She also responded to the question of one of her followers who asked her if she’s going to follow Celdran soon.

“When you’ve seen the light, sweetie. When you’ve seen the light,” she said.

Celdran passed away on October 8 in Madrid, Spain and his last social media post is about wishing President Rodrigo Duterte not to get well soon.

“Don’t get well soon,” Celdran said in his last social media post on Facebook.

The activist is referring to the revelation of the President about his health, telling the people that he’s suffering from a neuromuscular disease.

Celdran traveled to Madrid after the Supreme Court ruled that he committed an act of offending religious feelings during his solo rally inside the Manila Cathedral in 2010.

He entered the Manila Cathedral wearing an attire same with the Filipino hero Jose Rizal while holding a sign with the words “Damaso”.

Russia offers Floating Nuclear Power Plant to Philippines

The government of Russia proposed to the Philippines to build a floating nuclear power plant to stabilize the electric supply of the country.

Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom and the Department of Energy (DoE) signed an agreement to introduce a floating nuclear power plant.

Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi also said that Rosatom is also looking to the possibility of reviving the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).

They will evaluate BNPP if it can still be made operational and study the possibility of a new plant in another area,” Cusi told Daily Tribune.

The Philippines is the second country in the world that will use a floating nuclear power plant if the government follows the proposal of Russia.

Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation director general Alexei Likhachev said that there are two possible ways for the Philippines to generate electricity via nuclear power.

“There are several ways to develop the nuclear energy industry in the Philippines, to reboot the existing power plant, which has been mothballed and the Filipinos keep it in a very acceptable condition or to build another station, but also of large capacity,”  Likhachev said.

“A more interesting approach, which we also proposed to our friends, are small-capacity nuclear plants, including floating ones,” he added.

Meanwhile, DOE secretary Donato Marcos said that nuclear power can supply 75% of the country’s energy demand.

He also explained the importance of having more sources of energy as the Philippines population is rising quickly and also having strong economic growth.

The news about the proposal of Russia catches the attention of the netizens, believing that nuclear power can cheapen the price of electricity in the Philippines.

Mayor Isko Moreno closes Isetann Mall in Recto: “Nasanay ata sila sa dating administrasyon na parang walang gobyerno”

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno personally went to Recto to close down Isetann Mall because of multiple violations they committed while operating.

On Wednesday, Moreno said that the mall has a license to operate, however, the owner of Isetann, Tri-Union Properties Inc. misinterpreted what they put in the application for the permit.

“Sabi nila, 1,000 square meters lang daw ang Isetann shopping mall… sampu lang daw ang empleyado nila, they’re not just shopping mall, they’re also lessor, ibig sabihin nagpapaupa din sila ng pwesto… yung kanilang lessor business ay walang permit,” said Moreno.

Moreno believes that cellphone snatchers are selling their loot in Isetann because the mall is operating without any sufficient permit.

He said that he warned Isetann many times about the illegal activities happening in their mall, however, they didn’t listen so Tri-Union Properties need to face the consequences of their action.

He also added that because of the illegal activities happening in Isetann, they discovered more violations committed by the said mall.

“Mukhang nasanay sila sa dating administrasyon na para bang walang gobyerno… I told them so many times, hindi ako nagkulang ng paalala,” he said.

The Mayor said that he would close down Isetann until they already completed the necessary requirements to operate again.

Moreno personally padlocked the mall even if the businesses inside are still operating to show that he’s serious about implementing the law.

Duterte urged the friend of Kitty not to rush in having a romantic relationship with his child.

“Ang Veronica ko, nagdala ng lalaki, gusto daw ako makilala. Sabi ko, walang problema. Sabi ko, ‘Ano ka ba?’ High school pa, parang mag-graduate na, going to college. Tapos, nung usap, sabi ko, ‘Yang anak ko, kaisa-isa ‘yan sa aking asawa na si Honeylet,” Duterte said.

“Mahal namin ‘yan, ngayon gusto mo akong makilala, at least, madali kitang hanapin. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘My daughter is very young and we love her very much.’ You know, para sa aming mga tatay… I will not talk about the mother because I don’t know what they are feeling of being a woman sa anak niya, pero ako mahal ko ‘yan.” he added.

The President also gave several rules to the boy friend of Kitty, saying that he would not let his daughter played by anyone.

“Sabi ko, ‘No physical. Basta huwag mong hawakan maski kamay, okay? She’s only fourteen. How old are you?’ Sabi niya, ‘Seventeen. Sabi ko, ‘Huwag mong hawakan ang kamay. Huwag mong halikan ‘yan, hindi pa puwede at hindi sawsawan ‘yan. Huwag na huwag mong gawin.” he said.

President Duterte made the statement several days after Kitty posted a photo of a man on her Twitter and even made it a cover photo.

Mayor Isko Moreno plans to close down Isetann Mall in Recto

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno said that he’s considering to close down a famous mall in Recto for operating without a permit.

After his appearance at the “First 100 Days special report on CNN Philippines,” Moreno said that he’s going to ask Isetann mall in Recto to explain why they’re operating without proper documents.

“We just notified them to explain why the operators of the mall has no permit, they have to explain,” Moreno said.

According to him, he would still give them a chance to fix their problems.

However, Moreno said that he’s not sure how long Isetann was operating without any permit.

“One thing for sure, there’s no document state that they have a permit to operate as mall operators,”

The Manila City Mayor also said that the alleged illegal activities happening inside Isetann made them discover how the said mall was operating without any necessary documents.

Moreno made the statement one day after he ordered to ban the trade of all second-hand mobile phones in Manila.

Isetann is one of the malls warned by Moreno for selling phones that allegedly came from illegal activities.

“The warning was made after a student reported to the MPD Special Mayor’s Reaction Team that he saw his mobile phone from one of the vendors inside Isetann Mall in Recto,” the Manila Public Information Office said on Twitter.

However, a mall officer in Isetann made an alibi saying that the said stolen phone is not on sale.

“Hindi binili ng tenant ng mall, pinagawa sa technician sabi babalikan may bibilhin lang. Hindi na binalikan,” he said.

Enchong Dee criticizes MMDA spox Celine Pialago: “Mamamayang Pilipino nanaman mag-aadjust?”

Actor Enchong Dee is one of the social media users who took a swipe against Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Spokesperson Celine Pialago who said that the transportation strike held two days ago is a failure.

In his tweet, Enchong Dee asked Pialago why it seems that they wanted the people to adjust again for the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modernization Program being planned by the government to happen in 2020.

He suggested that the government should provide to the PUV owners for the modernization of their vehicles because of the high price of modern jeepneys.

“Mamayang Pilipino nanaman mag-aadjust? Why not provide for the Jeepney driver’s modernization… if the govt finds it expensive, how much more the jeepney drivers?” Dee said.

He also said that Pialago is “clueless of the state of Metro Manila traffic”.

On October 1, Pialago posted a social media post declaring the transport strike of some groups was a failure.

She also vowed that the government would not be affected by the transport strike saying that it only gave inconvenience to commuters.

“Despite the good intentions of the government, puro reklamo lang ang kaya niyong gawin. Nasasanay kayong gobyerno ang mag aadjust sa lahat ng reklamo niyo particularly dito sa PUV Modernization Program,” Pialago said.

“You should follow the system and if you have complaints, follow the protocol. And don’t ever tell us that making your transport strike unsuccessful is clamping down on freedom of expression. Nakapag-strike na kayo, may freedom kayo. Pero hindi kayo entitled para pagbigyan ang gusto ninyo,” she added.

Pialago also addressed BAYAN Secretary-General Renato Reyes, urging them to stop doing transport strikes because they’re only wasting their time.

“Tigilan mo ko Renato Reyes. Tigilan mo kaka strike mo para pahirapan ang mga pasahero dahil hindi ka magtatagumpay.” Pialago said.

“Kung kaya mong mag transport strike ng isang taon baka sakali magtagumpay ka. One day? Try harder.” she added.

MMDA Spox Celine Pialago to Renato Reyes: “Tigilan mo kaka rally mo dahil hindi ka magtatagumpay!”

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Spokesperson Celine Pialago took a swipe against Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) Secretary-General Renato Reyes over the transport strike yesterday.

In a Facebook post, Pilago told Reyes to stop organizing rallies and transport strike because they’re not going to be successful.

She said that maybe if Reyes could organize a one-year transport strike, the government may feel the effect of their movement.

“Tigilan mo ko Renato Reyes. Tigilan mo kaka strike mo para pahirapan ang mga pasahero dahil hindi ka magtatagumpay.” Pialago said.

“Kung kaya mong mag transport strike ng isang taon baka sakali magtagumpay ka. One day? Try harder.” she added.

Pialago also made an open letter addressed to her critics who swarmed her on social media after she stated that the transport strike of groups didn’t succeed.

According to her, there’s nothing wrong of doing their job to counter the transport strike organized by some jeepney owner groups because they don’t want to commuter to suffer.

She stated that the strategy of some groups to get the attention of the government is wrong and it only affects the comfort of other people.

“Yung epektong gusto niyong mangyari ang paghihirapan naming pigilan, dahil bukod sa MMDA, pinaghandaan kayo ng ibat ibang local governments.” Pialago said.

“We are after the welfare of the people, at sa pagkakataong ito, mahalaga sa amin na hindi na kayo dumagdag pa sa araw-araw ng hirap na dinaranas ng mga commuters.” she added.

Pialago insisted that the PUV Modernization Program that is opposed by militant groups are for the people.

She also vowed that the government would not adjust for the sake of few groups who oppose PUV Modernization.

Meanwhile, Reyes responded to Pialago’s social media post, saying that the latter doesn’t understand the goal of a transport strike.

“A strike aims to disrupt in order to call attention to an issue. The fact na nagsuspinde ng pasok, dahil may disruption, ito ay tagumpay na ng transport groups. Hindi ata nauunawaan ng MMDA ang layunin ng isang strike,” Reyes said.

“The temporary disruption is the last resort in order to raise just demands. May ipinaglalaban po ang mga tsuper. Hindi lamang po ito pamemerwisyo,” he added.

Sen. Lacson wants to penalize children who will not give financial support to their parents

Senator Panfilo Lacson proposed to penalize children who are not going to give support to their parents who are already reached senior citizen or having illness regardless of age.

According to Senate Bill No. Twenty-nine filed by Lacson, even in the past, children are already obliged to give support to their parents.

“We, Filipinos, are well-known for our close family ties. Because of this, it is not surprising that we have the usual inclination to care for our elderly. However, even with these close family ties, there are cases of elderly, sick, and incapacitated parents who were abandoned by their own children,” Lacson wrote in the explanatory note.

“Nowadays, the sights of abandoned elderly in our streets become typical. Children fail to provide the necessary support to their aging, sick and incapacitated parents. This happens despite our moral and natural obligation to maintain our parents who are in need of support,”

The bill stated that “son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, whether biological or adoptive” are required to give support to their family member who is already reached 60 years old and above or suffering from illness.

Minors or people who cannot take care of themselves because of physical or mental condition are exempted in giving support to their family member.

If the parent who needed assistance have more than one child, the support should be divided among the children.

Children who cannot provide support to their parents will face 1-6 months of detention or a fine of P100,000.

Meanwhile, abandoning their parents would face 6-10 years of detention and a fine of not less than P300,000.

The bill also mandated all provincial governments and highly urbanized cities to establish one Old Age Home that can accommodate 50 parents.

Lacson passed a similar bill in 2016 but it didn’t pass into law.
