Jim Paredes is back as a critic President Duterte: “Even as a comic, he is a failure”

Legendary OPM artist Jim Paredes is back on social media after five months of break and it seems that his stance against President Rodrigo Duterte didn’t change.

Paredes, who came back from public scene months after his private video leaked online criticized President Duterte and called him a failure after the latter made another controversial joke during an interview in Russia.

According to him, the President really thought that he’s a funny man when saying the said jokes in front of the Russian audience.

“He really thought he was sophisticated, smart, suave, and funny. Even as a comic, he is a failure,” Paredes said in his tweet.

Meanwhile, several netizens reacted to Paredes’ tweet defending the President from the latest criticism of the artist.

At least he doesn’t need his “Magic Hands” to entertain,” netizen Jackie Perez said.

“pero president p rin bukas c duterte hahahahaha lahit anu gawin o svhin nya!” netizen @DiosKo wrote.

Paredes is currently working as a musical mentor for the Philippine Popular Music Festival (PhilPop) Songwriting Bootcamp and also promoting his new songs.

“You know, I just want to… We make music. I’m just an artist. I come up with stuff, you know. Enjoy them at your pleasure.” said Paredes in his first interview since he appeared again in public.

“I’m grateful and I’m hopeful that I will continue to write the soundtrack of their love lives, their life as they get old, their milestones in their lives, marriage, everything,” he added.

Renato Reyes congratulates Sec. Panelo for arriving at Malacanang: “Medyo late na kayo kung government time yan”

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Secretary-General Renato Reyes failed to cross path with Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo. However, he has still a message to the latter who performed the commute challenged from Marikina to Malacanang.

On his social media posts, Reyes waited at Santolan for the arrival of Panelo, who’s expected to use LRT-2, however, the presidential spokesperson chose to ride a jeepney instead.

When he realized that Panelo was not going to use LRT-2 service, Reyes decided to ride a bus to LRT-2 Cubao station.

“6:AM October 11, 2019. Sec Panelo, ito yung daily commute na pipila from Santolan bago makasakay ng bus. Tapos naisra pa aircon ng bus, jusme! Bababa kami sa LRT2 Cubao. Tapos pipila uli para makasakay papuntang Recto. Ito yung totoong kumplikadong pag-commute, hindi yung one-time na pagsakay ng jeep. Mass transport crisis nga eh,” Reyes said in his post.

After Panelo arrived at Malacanang after four hours of travel, Reyes congratulated Panelo for completing the challenge, saying that he’s already late if they’re going to follow the government time.

He pointed out that there’s a mass transport crisis because Panelo required to ride four different jeepneys to arrive at his destination.

“Congratulations Sec. Panelo for arriving in one piece in Malacanang after nearly 4 hours of commute! Medyo late na kayo kung government time yan. Just the same, we hope this experience underscored the fact that there IS a mass transport crisis and that long term solutions are needed,” Reyes said.

“I don’t think you’d be doing the same commute for the rest of the month, so let’s just call a spade a spade. We have a serious mass transport crisis which we can no longer downplay or ignore. Kailangan po ng matagalang solusyon. Naka 4 na palit kayo ng jeep papunta ng Malacanang, di ba? Yun po ang sinasabi namin mass transport crisis, ang kakulangan ng maaasahan at episyenteng mass transport system,”

Meanwhile, Panelo still insisted that there’s no “mass transport crisis” happening in the Philippines, saying that Filipinos can be creative to face the traffic in Metro Manila.

Presidential Spokesperson Panelo arrives at Malacanang after 4 hours of commuting

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo committed to doing the challenge of going to ride PUV from Marikina to Malacanang this Friday.

According to the Spokesperson, he started the challenge around 5:15 AM in Marikina.

In several photos posted by netizens, Panelo was spotted alone while waiting for a jeepney at Concepcion Uno in Marikina around 6:53 am and finally ride a PUV after some policemen assisted him.

Some reports also said that he was offered by a taxi driver for a ride but Panelo refused.

To prove that he’s riding a public utility vehicle, Panelo sends some of his selfies to the press.

Despite refusing from media coverage, Panelo was still swarmed by some reporters and cameramen when he arrived in Manila.

At around 8:30 AM Panelo finally reached Malacanang gate and a motorcycle rider offers him a ride inside the Palace.

There’s also no report that Panelo rides an LRT on his way to Malacanang.

Panelo performed the challenge after he claimed that there’s no “transportation crisis” happening around Metro Manila.

“Wala. Kasi nga makakarating pa naman ‘yung mga dapat makarating sa kanilang pupuntahan,” he said in a press conference two days ago.

“If you want to go, arrive early in your destination, then you go there earlier,” he added.

Panelo will do a press briefing today at Malacanang around 11 PM.

Saguisag calls style of Isko Moreno ‘Trapo-ish’: “Kwentong barbero? Sinong pinoprotektahan niya?”

Former Senator Rene Saguisag challenged Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno to name the people who tried to bribe him of P5-M a day to prove that the latter is not just making stories to promote himself in public.

In his Manila Times column, Saguisag who’s talking about anonymity mentioned Mayor Isko Moreno who’s according to him, bragging about his achievements like his claims that he turned down a P5-M bribe per day to fight corruption in his city.

According to Saguisag, Moreno should name and prosecute the people who bribed him.

He also described the style of Moreno as “Trapo-ish” because he didn’t name the people who tried to bribe him.

“Mayor Isko brags about turning down a bribe offer of P5 million a day to look the other way instead of cleaning up Divisoria. Yorme’s duty is to denounce and prosecute, not brag,” Saguisag said.

“Yorme, it will be recalled, said he had been offered that rejected bribe. To me, that was so trapo-ish. Kumita na po ‘yan — such exercise of bragging rights is Jurassic. It seems to me what he should have done was to entrap the briber manqué. Or at the least denounce him or her by name and see what happens,” he added.

“For Yorme, it ain’t braggin’ if he can back it up. As of today, it is only his self-serving anecdote we have. Kwentong barbero? Who is he protecting?” he also said.

Saguisag said that he’s hoping that Moreno can help people without any publicity.

In July, Moreno claimed that someone called him and offering P5-M a day in exchange for stopping his cleanup operation along Divisoria.

However, a former worker of the City Government of Manila said that it’s impossible for someone to bribe him P5-M, saying that the call he received might be a prank.

Cynthia Villar questions corn research fund: “Ako, matalino akong tao, pero hindi ko maintindihan ‘yang research niyo,”

Senator Cynthia Villar captured the attention of the netizens again over her comment on the decision of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to allocate a bigger amount of money on research for the National Corn Program than putting more money for the direct assistance to farmers.

Villar who’s the chairman of Senate committee on agriculture, food and agrarian reform questioned the decision of DA and asked them why they’re obsessed with doing research than helping the farmers directly.

“Parang lahat ng inyong budget puro research? Baliw na baliw kayo sa research. Aanhin niyo ba yung research?” Villar said on Wednesday during a senate hearing.

“Ako matalino akong tao pero hindi ko maintindihan yung research niyo, lalo na yung farmer. Gusto ba ng farmer yung research? Hindi ba gusto nila tulungan niyo sila? Bakit ba lahat ng budget niyo research?” she added.

According to her, farmers need financial assistance, seeds, and more tools that would help them in farming.

“Kung ako farmer, mas gusto ko nang bigyan ako ng seeds, bigyan ako ng machineries kaysa yung mga kung anu anong ‘yan. Kaunting-kaunti lang ang ibinibigay sa farmers kaya ang ating mga farmers continously naghihirap,” she said.

She also questioned why the seed reserve budget is higher than the seed distribution project.

According to the proposed budget, the budget for seed reserve is P218-M while the supply prepared for distribution is only at P31-M.

Seed reserve can only be distributed to the farmers during natural calamities.

Villar said that DA should distribute more money directly to the farmers instead of doing research because the money came from the taxpayers.

“Wala nang nabibigay sa tao. Pera ng tao ‘yan eh. Taxpayers’ money ‘yan,”  she said.

MMDA Spox Pialago admits working with opposition in 2016 and explains why she decides to side with President Duterte

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Spokesperson Celine Pialago shared her journey on how she worked with the opposition in 2016 elections then suddenly jumped ship when she met President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to her, she wanted to try political campaigning as she wanted to change career that’s why he chose to become one of the Media Relations Officers of one of the opposition candidates in 2016.

However, when Pialago met Duterte in Davao City to apply for a job she was surprised about the personality of the latter, saying that good things that the people tell about the President are true.

Pialago admitted that she’s regretting that she supported the wrong candidate in the 2016 election.

She also said that all the things that were thrown by anti-Duterte Facebook pages against the President are not true.

The Spokesperson of MMDA posted the lengthy story after some netizens posted her old campaign ID showing that she was a supporter of a rival of President Duterte during the presidential elections.

You can read her whole post below:

It’s time to publicly share my journey why I went from one side to now serving our President Rodrigo Duterte. I believe it is my responsibility to publicly open and be transparent about my history.

I was only 24 years old going 25 when I worked as one of the oppositions’ Media Relations Officers in the last 2016 elections.

From news reporting, beauty pageants and showbiz, I went to a totally new thing, which is political campaigning. All I wanted was to go back to non-entertainment media since my plans for showbiz fell through.

When I applied for a job in Davao, a week after the 2016 elections, I never thought I would cross paths with our President Duterte. I was going to pass my resume to anybody, taking chances and hoping for the best.

But it was the President I met.

It’s true what they say, that you can’t know a person until you meet them in person.

And my God, I was surprised. President Duterte was jovial. He will not judge you nor act rudely towards you just because you are from a different political party.

He does not discriminate who he speaks to or prefers some over others. He treats everyone he speaks to with equal respect.

It was the first time I spoke with a President of the Philippines, and President Duterte acted like he was my dad. ☺️ He was personable, down to earth and simple.

Four hours stretched into the wee hours of the morning, but our enthusiasm was never doused. All of us enjoyed every minute of it. President Duterte at that time said it’s more important for government employees to be loyal to the people than to him.

It was there I realized why 16 million Filipinos voted for him.

I feel sad that I wasn’t given an opportunity to be his supporter for the 2016 elections.

All those anti-government social media pages have it wrong about our President.

I hope these pages will stop being so desperate in trying to bring down people such as myself and other supporters of President Duterte.

They even dug up my old campaign ID just to portray me as a “balimbing” or political opportunist. That time I had not yet found my place or my conviction.

Today, I am sure.

I’m here not to please certain people, I’m here to serve the public. I have no secrets to hide. So you anti-government pages, stop encouraging others to oppose the government for the sake of opposing or for your agenda. Stop using political colors as pretentious symbols of loyalty to our country; they are actual colors of vested interests.

I am happy and proud to be part of this administration. You can expect that I will continue delivering this level of service to the best of my abilities.

So help me God.

Panelo to ride jeepney and LRT to Malacanang to show that he’s accepting the challenge of netizens

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo accepted the challenge of some netizens to commute on his way to Malacanang to experience traffic.

In a text message, Panelo said that he would ride a jeepney and LRT to Malacanang on Friday to prove that there’s no mass transport crisis under the Duterte administration.

“I stand by my statement: there is no mass transport crisis. The crisis is in the sufferance of commuters and motorists; while the other crisis is in the inefficient operation and maintenance of the LRTs – the crisis is in its poor management,” Panelo said in his statement.

“We will not allow it to be constant and permanent. Everyone who commutes or drives suffers every day but solutions to solve it are not insuperable, and this administration is doing its best to provide not just immediate but also long-term solutions,” he added.

Panelo has been criticized by several groups for downplaying the traffic around Metro Manila, suggesting that people should travel early if they want to avoid inconvenience.

“Wala. Kasi nga makakarating pa naman ‘yung mga dapat makarating sa kanilang pupuntahan,” he said in a press conference two days ago.

“If you want to go, arrive early in your destination, then you go there earlier,” he added.

Meanwhile, a youth group said that Panelo should do the challenge without his bodyguards and commute to Malacanang during rush hour.

“First of all, travel during early morning rush hour. Second, no special treatment—no bodyguards to brush off crowd. Third, we are expecting the stint to be mere performance. To prevent this, the spokesperson must commute not only for a single day, but for a whole week,” Anakbayan said in a statement.

Agot Isidro to critics of Carlos Celdran: “Respeto naman sa pamilya niya!”

Actress Agot Isidro defended tourist guide and activist Carlos Celdran from the netizens who criticized the latter.

According to Isidro, the netizens should respect the relatives of the activist who’s mourning to his demise.

“RESPETO naman sa pamilya at mga mahal niya. You may not like what he did or how he did it, pero huwag naman tayong bastos,” Isidro said referring to Celdran.

She also responded to the question of one of her followers who asked her if she’s going to follow Celdran soon.

“When you’ve seen the light, sweetie. When you’ve seen the light,” she said.

Celdran passed away on October 8 in Madrid, Spain and his last social media post is about wishing President Rodrigo Duterte not to get well soon.

“Don’t get well soon,” Celdran said in his last social media post on Facebook.

The activist is referring to the revelation of the President about his health, telling the people that he’s suffering from a neuromuscular disease.

Celdran traveled to Madrid after the Supreme Court ruled that he committed an act of offending religious feelings during his solo rally inside the Manila Cathedral in 2010.

He entered the Manila Cathedral wearing an attire same with the Filipino hero Jose Rizal while holding a sign with the words “Damaso”.

Russia offers Floating Nuclear Power Plant to Philippines

The government of Russia proposed to the Philippines to build a floating nuclear power plant to stabilize the electric supply of the country.

Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom and the Department of Energy (DoE) signed an agreement to introduce a floating nuclear power plant.

Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi also said that Rosatom is also looking to the possibility of reviving the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).

They will evaluate BNPP if it can still be made operational and study the possibility of a new plant in another area,” Cusi told Daily Tribune.

The Philippines is the second country in the world that will use a floating nuclear power plant if the government follows the proposal of Russia.

Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation director general Alexei Likhachev said that there are two possible ways for the Philippines to generate electricity via nuclear power.

“There are several ways to develop the nuclear energy industry in the Philippines, to reboot the existing power plant, which has been mothballed and the Filipinos keep it in a very acceptable condition or to build another station, but also of large capacity,”  Likhachev said.

“A more interesting approach, which we also proposed to our friends, are small-capacity nuclear plants, including floating ones,” he added.

Meanwhile, DOE secretary Donato Marcos said that nuclear power can supply 75% of the country’s energy demand.

He also explained the importance of having more sources of energy as the Philippines population is rising quickly and also having strong economic growth.

The news about the proposal of Russia catches the attention of the netizens, believing that nuclear power can cheapen the price of electricity in the Philippines.

Mayor Isko Moreno closes Isetann Mall in Recto: “Nasanay ata sila sa dating administrasyon na parang walang gobyerno”

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno personally went to Recto to close down Isetann Mall because of multiple violations they committed while operating.

On Wednesday, Moreno said that the mall has a license to operate, however, the owner of Isetann, Tri-Union Properties Inc. misinterpreted what they put in the application for the permit.

“Sabi nila, 1,000 square meters lang daw ang Isetann shopping mall… sampu lang daw ang empleyado nila, they’re not just shopping mall, they’re also lessor, ibig sabihin nagpapaupa din sila ng pwesto… yung kanilang lessor business ay walang permit,” said Moreno.

Moreno believes that cellphone snatchers are selling their loot in Isetann because the mall is operating without any sufficient permit.

He said that he warned Isetann many times about the illegal activities happening in their mall, however, they didn’t listen so Tri-Union Properties need to face the consequences of their action.

He also added that because of the illegal activities happening in Isetann, they discovered more violations committed by the said mall.

“Mukhang nasanay sila sa dating administrasyon na para bang walang gobyerno… I told them so many times, hindi ako nagkulang ng paalala,” he said.

The Mayor said that he would close down Isetann until they already completed the necessary requirements to operate again.

Moreno personally padlocked the mall even if the businesses inside are still operating to show that he’s serious about implementing the law.
