“To help our kababayans” OFW Engineer offers his expertise for free in building water facilities to give Filipinos clean water

An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who worked in big water-cleaning plant projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) offered wanted to offer his expertise to the government of the Philippines to help his ‘kababayans’ to have clean water.

The Saudi-based Engineer, Aldrin Cardenas wrote a letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte to express his desire to volunteer if ever that the government wanted to build water treatment plants.

“I am sending this message to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte showing my intent to volunteer for free as a consultant in the construction of such facilities to help our kababayans who are suffering from the water crisis in Metro Manila and in the entire country,” Cardenas said on his Facebook post.

To prove that he already has the experience, he revealed that he was involved in the construction of the biggest Reverse Osmosis Manufacturing Facilities in Saudi Arabia.

He’s also part of the team that built the biggest desalination plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

“IN 2014 I was involved in the construction of the biggest Reverse Osmosis Manufacturing facilities in KSA and the first construction of such plant outside of the United States. It is considered a one-of-a-kind top-secret project of DOW Chemicals. Fluor Corporation hired me as Quality Control and Quality Assurance Manager to run the world-class project of DOW Chemicals to supply its products to the Middle East, the African region, Eastern Europe, China, India, and Southeast Asia, ensuring that quality is delivered accordingly,” Cardenas said.

“I also want people to know that the biggest desalination plant in Jubail, KSA was constructed and designed by Filipino Engineers in 2009 and I am one of them. I wonder why our government does not want to construct government-owned water plants to supply fresh and drinking water to Filipinos in highly urbanized areas. We, the OFW Filipino Engineers, are willing to undertake and help this administration to solve many current issues,” he added.

According to Cardenas, he was wondering why drinkable water in the Philippines is expensive.

He pointed out that there are many Filipinos who already got an experience building infrastructure that could help the country to have a sufficient supply of water.

“Filipinos are truly highly skilled, many of us dealing with infrastructure and chemical projects overseas. I just wonder why our country, which is abundant in fresh and saline water, faces scarcity of water supply. I read in the news that the government is set to exact from the business sector multi-billion peso fines for mishandling water management and contracts in the country,”

Cardenas made the post following the criticisms threw by President Duterte against two water companies who filed a case against the government in an international tribunal.

The President also complained about the lack of water treatment plants in the country, saying that the Filipinos are paying for it.

“They’ve been collecting for years to treat the water before it flows to the Manila Bay. Matagal na ‘yan” Duterte said.

“ Anak ka ng p***** i** niya. Walang water treatment, mga animal kayo” he added.

Manila City Council declares group ‘Panday Sining’ as persona non grata

The Manila City Council decided to forbid the group ‘Panday Sining’ as persona non grata in the nation’s capital.

The decision means that all members of Panday Sining are not allowed to visit or stay in Manila City anymore.

Panday Sining became infamous in the eyes of the Manila Government after they did several “art protest” in different parts of the city.

Panday Sining is not yet releasing a statement on the decision of the Manila City Council against them.

Their latest action last Saturday made four of their members face detention after they were caught painting the walls of LRT to express their criticisms against the government.

Moreno said in a past speech that he already warned the members of Panday Sining not to commit another vandalism again.

“You were warned. Nag-abiso na ako. Nananawagan po ako na huwag ninyo nang ulitin. Inulit niyo pa rin. Sinusubukan niyo kung may batas at liderato sa Maynila. Kailangan niyo pong harapin ngayon ang bisa ng batas,” he said.

Meanwhile, several activist group called for the release of the four members of Panday Sining.

The group even asked the netizens financial support.

“We are raising money for bail and we call on others to extend support for our fellow artista ng bayan,” Panday Sining said on their Facebook post.

Efren “Bata” Reyes lost to Vietnamese Dinh Nai Ngo 14-100 in one cushion carom of the billiards event of the 30th SEA Games competition at the Manila Hotel.

Still, Reyes is now assured of bringing a bronze medal for the Philippines.

After his victory against Reyes, Dinh Nai Ngo asked for a photo with the legendary pool player.

A netizen translated the act of the Vietnamese to show respect to Reyes who’s considered as the greatest pool player of all time.

“U know Efren Bata Reyes is a legend when the Vietnamese who defeated him asked for a photo with him. Cute!!! Laban pa rin tayo!!” netizen @jyaaap remarked.

Ngo confirmed the translation of some netizens admitting that he asked for a photo with Reyes because he admires the Filipino pool player a lot.

Another netizen who watched the match still respected Reyes despite being defeated.

“Still, Efren “Bata” Reyes is stil my Champion! Saludo sayo sir,” Lansag Anino twitted.

Reyes’ latest match could be his final SEA Games stint.

The 65-year-old billiard player already admitted during the past interviews that he’s not in his 100% anymore as he suffers from shoulder problems.

“Hindi ko na maitaas. Wala na yung magic ko ngayon. Hindi na ko pwede mag-mase, hindi na ako pwede mag-kaliwa, masakit na. Kaya yung mga dating tinitira ko na may magic, wala na. Hindi na gagana,” said Reyes a day before his match against Ngo.

“Ibig sabihin dapat yung laban na ‘yun sandali lang ‘yun. Yung 100. Mga ilang tirahan lang. Ngayon, ang dami naming tira bago namin matapos yung 100,” he added.

Netizens are complaining about the lack of live coverage in the second match of legendary billiard player Efren “Bata” Reyes in 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Friday.

Several netizens posted their thoughts on Twitter, questioning media outlets why they seem to ignore a living legend like Reyes, who representing the country in SEA Games for the last time of his career.

“Di ko magets, si Efren “Bata” Reyes ay living legend. Isang sports icon din pero wala man lang kahit livestream ng laro niya? Ganun ba kawalang kikitain tong mga nagbobroadcast para hindi ipakita man lang ang laban mg isang ICON?” @paragaspat said.

“Sobrang much-anticipated ang games ni Efren Bata Reyes, pero ang hirap humanap ng live coverage ano ba itu,” aikalog twitted.

“BAKIT WALANG LIVE YUNG LARO NI EFREN BATA?!!!!!  @Sports5PH @abscbnsports #seagames2019 #WeWinAsOne,” @sirlancelambert asked.

Some netizens only relied on the tweets of several journalists who are watching the match in person.

Reyes faced Dihn Nai Ngo of Vietnam in the semifinals of 1-Cushion Carom held at Manila Hotel Tent.

The lack of live stream in several games including billiards was already explained by blogger Rj “Thinking Pinoy” Nieto on his post.

According to Nieto, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISCOG) prohibits anyone from live streaming and only media partners is allowed to broadcast the event.

Nieto tried to Livestream the water polo sports but an official reminded him that they’re not allowed to broadcast the said event.

“Covering such events is expensive. I have used my hard-earned money to pay thousands for gasoline, telecoms, and manpower, to do so. I wanted to do it for you guys for free as part of Public Service, but Phisgoc prevents me from doing so,” Nieto said.

Legendary billiard player Efren “Bata” Reyes has a message to the Millenials who wanted to follow his footsteps in the world of pool.

Before his match against Dinh Nai Ngo for the semifinals of 1-cushion carom at Manila Hotel Tent, Bata said that the younger generation who idolize him should focus on their studies instead of pursuing to become a champion in billiards.

“Kung ako sa inyo, kung nag aaral kayo, mag aral nalang kayo, yan ang makakatulong sa inyo, ang bilyar wala,” said Reyes.

“Ang kailangan na kailangan diyan (sa bilyar) magaling na magaling ka para kumita ka diyan e pag natapos ang pag aaral yan ang makakatulong sayo,” he added.

According to him, it’s not very easy to become a champion, especially if they’re studying and playing billiards at the same time.

“Ngayon kung nag aaral ka tapos mag bilyar ka, madalang lang yang bilyar pero yung pag aaral tapusin mo muna, eh kapag matanda ka na, kahit mag bilyar ka hindi ka na gagaling,” he said.

Reyes, who’s already 65 years old, is representing the Philippines for his possible last participation in the Southeast Asian Games.

He chose to represent the country in carom, an unpopular kind of billiard to give a chance to the younger Filipino players to show their talent.

Jim Paredes explains why PH got low rankings in reading comprehension, math and science

Legendary OPM artist Jim Paredes believes that there are many reasons why the Philippines ranked lowest in reading comprehension, while second-lowest in science and mathematics.

On a tweet, Paredes couldn’t hide his disappointment over the news about the poor rankings of the Philippines conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Among the many reasons Paredes mentioned are corruption and electing the wrong politicians.

According to him, it may be the reason why the students are suffering from poor education.

“Corruption, electing the wrong leaders, apathy, anti-intellectualism, wrong priorities have brought us malnutrition, poverty, lack of classrooms and textbooks and school supplies, poorly paid teachers. And we wonder why kulelat tayo sa reading, comprehension, math, and science,” Paredes said.

Some of his followers agree with Paredes, saying that they support to salaries of the teacher, but they should also improve their teaching skills.

“I’m all for raising teachers’ salary tho. Dapat lng. Pero galingan nmn nila magturo di puro pagpapakopya, nagtuturo ng 8 tenses (aspects) in one period! Come on!” @nomadicvillager said.

“You could be poorly paid and still teach effectively. Problem is too many teachers who have no methodology (lecture, tsismisan and then forcing students to copy texts for one 45 mins!) and are not fluent at all! Pano gagaling sa Inggles e teacher di tama grammar, juskolored!” he added.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) tested around 600,000 15-year-old students in 79 countries through the 2018 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The results showed that the Philippines had an average reading score of 340, the lowest among the countries surveyed. It is also below the OECD average of 487.

The Philippines also ranked second lowest in mathematics and science with a score of 353 and 357, respectively.

Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang in mainland China topped all the categories followed by Singapore.

Thousands of Twitter users have talked about the possible shutdown of television giant ABS-CBN and expressed their support to it.

A few days after the #NoToABSCBNShutdown became trending, the critics of the TV network made their own thread using the #YesToABSCBNShutdown to express to support the franchise expiration of the said company.

Here’s some of the tweets of the netizens who used the said hashtag.

“Never forget using children in the commercial that spreads black propaganda last national election… and many more,” @viosYubert said.

“If it has legal basis, wala naman atang mali if the franchise wont be renewed. If ur concerns is the employees who would be affected, para nyo na ring sinasabi large companies shouldnt be regulated to protect the interest of its employees. No offense tho,” @IamInevitable3 wrote.

“An ABS-CBN reporter was a subject of funny memes after netizens caught her publishing ”fake news” in Twitter. She became an instant online sensation but for the wrong reason. But then again, what would anyone expect from her and her mother station?” @for__keeps remarked.

Some defenders of ABS-CBN also used the same hashtag to express their support to the network, calling the people who made it viral as “trolls”.

A few days ago, President Duterte told ABS-CBN that they should not expect a franchise renewal.

ABS-CBN’s franchise is set to expire in March 2020.

Following Duterte’s statement, the House of Representatives said that they’re not going to talk about the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN this year.

After winning his carom billiard match against his first opponent in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Efren “Bata” Reyes still expressed his discontent in his performance.

In an interview with GMA News, Reyes said that he already lost his magic touch because of his old age.

“Hindi ko na maitaas. Wala na yung magic ko ngayon. Hindi na ko pwede mag-mase, hindi na ako pwede mag-kaliwa, masakit na. Kaya yung mga dating tinitira ko na may magic, wala na. Hindi na gagana,” said Reyes.

“Ibig sabihin dapat yung laban na ‘yun sandali lang ‘yun. Yung 100. Mga ilang tirahan lang. Ngayon, ang dami naming tira bago namin matapos yung 100,” he added.

Reyes said that he would try his best to defeat his next opponent on Friday despite his condition.

“Pipilitin kong talunin, pero magaling yun. Baka mamaya sumama din yung tira ‘nun, baka gumanda yung tira ko, bumalik yung tira ko, talunin ko siya,” Reyes said.

According to Reyes, his next opponent is also a world champion like him, and if he continues doing the same shots as he did in his first match, there’s a possibility that he may face difficulties in winning.

“’Yung susunod kong kalaban, world champion. Ako naman ang mahihirapan. Kung ang titirahin ko ganyan sa susunod, walang kabuhay-buhay. Kailangan, mas maganda pa doon,” the legendary billiard player said.

“Hindi na ako kakabahan pero ang makakalaban ko, kung dati ako pinakamagaling, etong kalaban ko ang pinakamagaling, ako ang bago,” he added.

Reyes who’s already 65 years old is planning to undergo therapy after the SEA Games.

Quiboloy claims he didn’t stop ‘Tisoy’ because of his critics: “Baka magalit nanaman”

Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder and leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy explained to his followers why he didn’t stop typhoon ‘Tisoy’ from entering the country.

In the video posted by page ‘Ito Ang Buhay,’ Quiboloy said that he didn’t stop Tisoy because of the feedback he received from the netizens after he claimed that he used his powers to pacify a quake in Mindanao.

“Baka i-stop ko yung bagyo ay magalit sila, pinabayaan nalang natin at nag pray nalang tayo na yung bagyo ay lumampas nalang [sa bansa], edi ngayon normal na,” Quiboloy said.

“Hindi ko na alam ang gagawin ko, pag pina-stop ko magagalit, pag hindi mo pina-stop nagagalit din,” he added.

Now that Tisoy already left the country, Quiboloy said that they’re now focused on helping its victims.

According to him, the only thing that will not stop is his desire to help the needy and pray for them.

The Pastor said that he would help everyone even his own critics.

“Ang hindi ma-stop diyan ay yung tulong natin, sa inyong mga kababayan kasi panata ko yun na sa amang makalangit,”

A few weeks ago, Quiboloy became the headlines of several news outlets after he claimed that he stopped a quake in Mindanao.

“Sabi ko sa lindol stop! umi-stop, tapos pangalawa mga eleven siguro yun, nandyan yung mga kasama ko, lumindol, umistop din,” Quiboloy said.

Rep. Atienza who admits being a non-believer of Duterte joins the President in his action against water companies: “Meron siyang tunay na pagkalalake!”

Buhay party-list Representative and former Manila City Mayor Lito Atienza expressed his support to President Rodrigo Duterte in his fight against the water companies involved in the “onerous” contract with the government.

In a privilege speech on December 2, Atienza admitted that he’s not a believer of Duterte, however, when the President revealed the alleged disadvantageous contracts, he expressed his regret and now supporting the President.

“We stand today in support of the President, ako man ay nagkulang sa umpisa na hindi ko na pinaniniwalaan ang lahat ng sinasabi ng Pangulo,” Atienza said.

“Sa araw na ito, nakayuko po ang inyong lingkod, sumasaludo ng dalawang kamay kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa kanyang katapatan sa ating bandila at sa kanyang mga mamamayan,” he added.

Atienza said that the two water concessionaires, Manila Water and Maynilad Water Services Inc. to “produce all the records” to prove that they’re really losing their profits.

However, Atienza believes that the two water companies are only lying that they’re losing profits because he claimed that the said concessionaires are earning hundreds of billions of pesos according to a document he got from the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).

“I challenge the Speaker of the House (Alan Peter Cayetano) to take action in this matter, you lead, we will follow,” Atienza said.

“We cannot stay quiet, we need to act on this concession agreement, ito ba ay serbisyo o perwisyo? ito po ba ay nakakatulong o ginagawa tayong lahat na parang mga timawa at pulubi?” he added.

Atienza also claimed that when the two companies handled the distribution, the people couldn’t drink the water anymore.

He then called the actions of Maynilad and Manila Water as “money-making ventures”.

“Utilities should never be privatized anymore,” he said.

“Kailangan tubig, kuryente ay galing sa pamahalaan,” he added.

Atienza insisted that under the Duterte administration is the right time to free the people from the chains of the big companies.

“Ito na ang pagkakataon, not in the next administration, but this administration, because we have a leader who has a courage, mayroon siyang tunay na pagkalalake at yan ang ating hinahangaan,” he said.

A few days ago President Duterte criticized the two big water companies for allegedly taking advantage of the contract they signed in 1997 with the government.

He revealed that the contract required the government of the Philippines to pay the said two companies if they fail to realize their profit or if the administration tries to interfere with the water prices.

Duterte said that he’s planning to make a new contract that would be fair for the Filipino people or else the water companies might face charges for economic sabotage.
