Rep.

Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co was removed as the chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations on January 13, 2025.

It only took seven seconds for the representatives to approve the motion by Ilocos Norte Rep. Zandro Marcos who asked to declare the position of Co as vacant.

“I move to declare vacant the position of chairperson of the committee of appropriations,” said Marcos.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez quickly carried the motion as he saw no opposition to the motion.

In a statement after his removal, Co clarified that it was his own decision to leave the committee, citing his health condition.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the majority in Congress for graciously accepting my decision to step down as Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations. This decision, made with a heavy heart, is driven by pressing health concerns. The highly demanding nature of my role has taken its toll, and I now need to prioritize seeking the medical attention necessary for my well-being,” Co in a statement said.

His removal coincidentally happened amid the criticism he received from the supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte.

He also received criticism for defending the programs being pushed by the lower house, including the controversial AKAP.

A farmer from Davao del Sur shared how his Apple trees successfully bear fruit despite the Philippine climate.

It can be recalled that it was common knowledge that Apple trees couldn’t grow in the Philippines because the climate was not right for the said species to thrive.

However, Benzone Kennedy Sepe, a Bachelor of Agriculture Technology graduate from Davao del Sur State College, proved that everything was possible regarding farming.

Sepe has documented his apple tree growth since 2020 and has tried different variants to be planted in his orchard.

One of the most notable variants of apple he was planting is the Wambugu Apple variety, known for thriving in countries with warmer climates.

According to him, one of his dreams was to visit America to personally see an Apple Tree as he thought that the said fruit-bearing species was impossible to live in the Philippines.

“Noon Pangarap ko talagang makapunta ng America para makakita ng Apple Trees. Since matagal pa yata ako makapunta dun, itinanim ko nalang ang pangarap ko,” said Sepe.

“Ngayon pupunta lang ako sa likod ng bahay lipat sa ibang lote may apple trees na madali pang puntahan,” he added.

His orchard was open to the public, and they were allowed to buy fruits and grafted apples so visitors could also try growing trees.

Aside from apples, Sepe also grew cherries, which are also not typically being grown in the Philippines.

Vice President Sara Duterte said that the frequency of winners of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) lotto draw was unusual and called it ‘mathematically impossible.’

In an interview, Duterte claimed that she saw a record from the Guinness Book of World Records that the Philippines had the title of the most lotto winner in one month in the six-digit lotto draw.

“Nakita ko nga ‘yung meme nasa Guinness Book of World Records na daw tayo for the most number of winners in one month in six digit lotto,” Duterte said.

“Billions in one month, sabi ko nga sa kaibigan ko, alam mo mathematically impossible talaga itong nangyayari na may nananalo lagi,” she added.

Guinness Book of World Records has yet to confirm if they really granted the Philippines such a title.

It can be recalled that last year, lawmakers already questioned the increasing number of lotto winners.

“Kailangan malaman ng Guinness ito, sobrang galing eh. Tayo na yata ang may pinakamaraming nanalo sa loob ng isang taon,” said Sen. Imee Marcos.

There were around 135 winners of the lotto in 2024.

PCSO already denied that they were manipulating the lotto results in their favor.

“We would like to assure you that you can never, never manipulate it. Kaya nga allowed kami mag-bet, Mr. Chair. Even I can bet because it’s beyond me. Even if we wanted to, with the system we have, we cannot,” PCSO General Manager Mel Robles said.

“I take exception na kayang panalunin. Definitely, madami pong tataya kung malaki ang jackpot. ‘Yun po naman ang objective namin– to really bring in bettors,” he added.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency announced another milestone for the Marcos administration after making 70% of the barangay in the Philippines ‘drug-free.’

In a statement released on January 9, 2025, PDEA said that around 29,390 out of 42,000 barangay in the Philippines are already considered as ‘drug-free’ after they passed the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Regulation 4 Series of 2021, also known as “Sustaining the Implementation of BDCP and Repealing for Such Purpose Board Regulation No. 3 Series of 2017.”

Meanwhile, PDEA said that there are still 6,113 barangay which was considered as ‘drug-affected’ and still required to be monitored.

It can be recalled that the current administration boasted their ‘bloodless’ approach in fighting illegal drugs, compared to the Oplan Tokhang launched by the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV shared why he decided to run for the mayoral position of Caloocan City.

In an interview with Karen Bordador, Trillanes said that it was not really his plan to run for a local position, but when he saw the state of Caloocan, where he was a resident, he decided to try it.

He described some parts of Caloocan City as a province where poverty was rampant.

“Nakita ko kung gaano kasama ‘yung sitwasyon sa Caloocan. Kung nandirito ka sa Quezon City, BGC, Makati, then pumunta ka doon sa North Caloocan na sinasabi… parang nasa Probinsiya talagang ibang-iba,” said Trillanes.

“Sira-sira ‘yung kalye, ang daming basura, binabaha palagi, daming krimen, ang daming adik, napabayaan,” he added.

Caloocan must follow what happened to Manila City and Pasig City

In another interview, Trillanes also said that the landscape of local politics in Manila had changed as some cities were now electing competent leaders like Isko Moreno and Vico Sotto.

According to him, it would be very simple to become a good and incorruptible leader by just learning how to say “no.”

Trillanes said that during his term as a senator, he made many enemies because he knew how to refuse.

Kapuso actor Mark Herras, nag-perform sa isang gay bar sa Paranaque

The first male winner of the reality show Starstruck, Mark Herras, was found performing in a popular male entertainment bar, also known as a gay bar in Paranaque.

Mark, also called the ‘bad boy of the dance floor,’ performed at the Apollo male entertainment bar this weekend.

Mark, wearing his signature street-style clothing, heated the dancefloor with his other two backup dancers during the performance.

Many people thought Mark would strip himself and dance like the macho dancers who often perform at the event, but it was proven wrong as he only performed his typical dancing moves.

During the show’s second segment, Mark entertained a lucky guest whom he asked to sit on a chair while he danced seductively to the female customer.

Despite being called a gay bar, many women were also known to visit the establishment.

Due to the positive feedback of his show, Mark was set to perform again at the same bar on January 31.

It can be recalled that there were rumors that the actor was facing career and financial difficulties and often being compared to his Starstruck batchmates, like Jennylyn Mercado, Yasmien Kurdi, and Katrina Halili, who were still enjoying popularity until today.

However, Mark denied the rumors, including the claims made by her former manager, Lolit Solis, who said that the actor borrowed P30,000 from her because he couldn’t afford to buy milk for his child.

Princess Galarpe-Marcial released new receipts against her husband, Olympic medalist Eumir Marcial.

During the press conference on January 11, Eumir said that he only met Jessa Mae Santos in Manila and quickly became friends as they were both residents of Zamboanga.

Jessa left behind her wallet during one of their meetings, which prompted Eumir to keep it temporarily.

Princess discovered the wallet, and Eumir said his wife started to get jealous and accused him of infidelity; despite the argument, the boxer kept the wallet so he could return it.

When Jessa returned to Manila, Eumir personally returned the wallet and visited her at the condominium unit where the confrontation happened.

“Nag-insist ako na tulungan ko siya, puntahan ko siya [at] noong time na ‘yon, nag book [si Jessa] ng condo, pinuntahan ko siya don,” said Eumir.

“Hindi ko alam sinisundan na pala ako [ni Princess],” he added.

Eumir argued that they were fully clothed and not doing anything malicious when Princess entered the condominium unit.

He also complained about how Princess physically confronted Jessa Mae without any reason.

As a response, Princess published a screenshot of a video showing a man wearing a towel during the confrontation.

“Pati ako nalito na sa statement mo. Pwede na pala makitulog as a friend. Super helpful naman ng asawa ko. Nakaka proud. Paano mo isasauli ang wallet eh kame ng kapatid ko may hawak at ako mismo nag surrender sa Pasay Police Station pagka aresto ninyo! Kaya nga ako naka pasok sa condo dahil sa wallet ng kabit mo!” she said.

Eumir Marcial, sinabing hindi maganda ang trato sa kanya ng asawang si Princess

Olympic medalist Eumir Marcial insisted that he didn’t have an affair with a woman like his wife, Princess Galarpe-Marcial, claimed.

In a statement, Eumir admitted that his relationship with Princess was in shambles and even claimed that his wife was being physical to him.

“Kung sinasaktan ko siya, do you think na ganu’n lang ‘yung mangyayari sa kanya? Mayroon siyang pasa sa paa, mayroon siyang ganito. Aksidenteng nangyari ‘yun dahil pinoprotektahan ko ‘yung sarili ko kaya nangyari ‘yun,” he said.

“Hindi na maayos ‘yung relasyon [namin] dahil parati kaming nag-aaway, parati niya akong sinasaktan. Alam ng mga kaibigan at pamilya niya. Kung dumating man kami sa punto ngayon, alam nila na mangyayari ito dahil sa ugali niya,” he added.

He also insisted that the woman mentioned by Princess was only his friend.

“‘Yung babae na nakita nila sa picture, kaibigan ko ‘yun na isang beses na pinuntahan ko kasi taga-Zamboanga siya eh. Nagkita kami sa Makati, taga-Zamboanga pala, nagkakilala, nag-usap, and then ‘yun, nagsama. Actually, nu’ng nagsama kami, may kasama siyang kaibigan, may kasama din ako.” he explained.

It can be recalled that Eumir was facing VAWC charges after Princess discovered that her husband was allegedly using their own savings to build a house in Zamboanga for his other woman.

The alleged daughter of former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was reportedly banned from drinking on planes after she and her husband started a commotion during a flight.

Marcos’ alleged daughter, Analisa Josefa Corr, together with her husband, James Alexander Corr, was accused of grabbing and shaking another passenger while leaving the aircraft toilet.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges, but they agreed to be banned from drinking on airplanes while their case was still being heard.

Analisa was reportedly the daughter of Marcos Sr. and former Sydney model Evelin Hegyesi, whom he met during the 1970s.

According to her LinkedIn profile, she’s working as a professional portraitt and intimate photographer.

“For years, I have shot for many international magazines and won several portrait awards,” she said.

“This is what I love doing the most, reminding people of their strengths and their own kind of beauty,” she added.

The news surprised many Filipinos as many were unaware that Marcos Sr. had a family outside his marriage with former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

Marcos Jr., also known for visiting Australia, repeatedly denied that Analisa was his half-sister.

According to Analisa’s biography, her name Josefa was based on the name of Marcos Sr.’s mother.

Olympic medalist Eumir Marcial’s wife, Princess Galarpe-Marcial, filed a VAWC complaint against her husband after months of trying to fix their relationship.

In a statement she released on social media, Princess said that she caught Eumir sleeping with another woman last October at a condominium in Pasay.

“I have personally caught them inside an Airbnb condominium in Pasay, where we had them both arrested at a police station. Eumir and his mistress, Jessa Santos, both had to be temporarily detained for 5 days,” Mrs. Marcial.

“Despite some of my family’s strong disapproval, I still gave Eumir multiple chances to make amends with our marriage, putting into consideration all that we have gone through and the difficult things we have survived as a couple,” she added.

However, despite the chance she gave to Eumir, the athlete allegedly decided to live with her mistress in Zamboanga.

“He withdrew all our savings and used the money to construct a house for him and his mistress in Zamboanga. I also have friends who have personally seen them together,” she stated.

Mrs. Marcial also claimed that her husband sent her threatening messages, and she was taking it seriously because the athlete was well-connected.

As of writing, Eumir has yet to comment on the charges filed by his wife against him.

Eumir is one of the most well-known national athletes in the country today, giving a bronze medal for the Philippines during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
