Some netizens interpreted it as a sign of disrespect and lack of sportsmanship.

“They so use to getting the top place and the management and team wasn’t happy with the 3rd place received,” a netizen said.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and multi-millionaire Carlos Yulo didn’t evade the negative comments from his critics amid the onslaught of Typhoon Kristine in the country.

In some comments on social media, critics questioned why Carlos, who received more than P100 M from different companies and individuals, didn’t share his wealth with the affected families by the Typhoon.

They also asked why Carlos didn’t even participate in different relief programs since he was being portrayed as the best example of an excellent Filipino athlete.

One post about Carlos, who was called ‘missing-in-action’, even reached thousands of reactions and shares on social media.

“Hahahahaha, puro tanggap wla mn lng tulong sa nabagyuhan,” netizen Nasinej said.

“Magulang nga di tinulungan ibang tao pa kaya. Mas gugustuhin sya ng tao kung mapagkumbaba at mabait sya sa sariling pamilya nya, pero ganun talaga iba iba ugali ng tao,” netizen Lai commented.

“Kaya hindi talga matatawag na hero ang isang athlete na gaya nya kasi self-benefits and non-sharing lalo na sa mga kababayan natin nakaranas ng sakuna… Parang si Quiboloy self-proclaimed God sya naman self-proclaimed hero of his own not by people who prayed and supported him in his journey,” netizen Redd remarked.

However, some Carlos fans came to the rescue, insisting the athlete has no obligation to help the affected of the bad weather.

“Pinoy talaga nabubuhay at umaasa lagi sa tulong ng iba. nalalait pa pag sa gantong sitwasyon bakit ba obligasyon ng isang tao na umaangat nagkapera sila dahil sa pagsisikap nila.may gobyerno na dapat nyong lapitan hindi yong mga indibidwal na tao,” netizen RCG wrote.

“I will give Yulo’s family P1 million this December, that’s for sure,” said Singson.

Initially, Singson offered P5-M to convince Carlos to reconcile with his family, but the Olympian didn’t respond.

However, the businessman said that Carlos was still open to grabbing the offer.

“Honor thy father and thy mother. That’s very important,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Singson said that he would also offer assistance to any athlete who was willing to represent the country.

“Nakaka gigil yung ganito. Please bicol folks parang awa nyo na maging matalino na kayo sa pagboto.. wala na ba ibang lalaban sa mga ito or kahit ba sino iboto nyo sa bicol puro makakapal ang mukha???” a netizen said.

PBBM, naghahanda na sa mas malalang epekto ng KristinePH:” “I’m feeling a little helpless here,”

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. asked government agencies to prepare for the worst-case scenario as Typhoon Kristine kept bringing rain to different provinces in the country.

During the meeting with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Marcos expressed his frustration as he couldn’t do anything but wait and pray.

Marcos expected that floods in different provinces would worsen.

“I’m feeling a little helpless here, kasi wala tayong magagawa, all we can do is sit tight, wait, hope, pray that there is not too much damage, that there are no casualties, and go in as soon and as quickly as possible,” said Marcos.

He also pointed out how fast typhoons can develop now compared in the past.

“We are experiencing the same phenomenon that we have been — that I have been commenting on, all of us have been noticing — ang bilis mag-develop nung bagyo. It was just a low pressure area and now look at pati the strength of it. And the volume of water are — the volumes of water are unprecedented,” he stated.

“It’s really the flooding that we are going to deal with. So… Anong gagawin natin?” he added.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also assured Marcos they had enough goods to distribute to the typhoon-affected areas.

Several officials of the Bicol Region were criticized on social media after photos of them distributing relief goods to the affected families of Typhoon Kristine went viral.

Photos showed Albay Governor Joey Salceda distributing sacks of rice, which included a portrait of AKO-BICOL party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.

Netizens questioned why the relief goods included a photo of the said public official.

Some of them suspected that the officials were using the Typhoon relief operations to promote themselves for the upcoming elections.

“Cringe ng may mukha yung mga sako ng bigas. Jusko. Sana yung funds for campaign, ipondo na lang nila sa pump boats. Hayst,” a netizen said.

“Yung gastos nila sa pagpaprint ng mga mukha nila sa repack, dapat additional nalang for actual relief goods. Itatapon lang naman yang packaging na may mukha nila sa basurahan,” another netizen commented.

“Kung sariling pera ni Mr. Co ang ibinili ng bigas walang problima pero kung galing sa taxpayers na kagaya ko ang ibinili ng bigas kapal naman ng pagmumukha nya,” netizen Feliciano remarked.

As of writing, Bicol officials have yet to respond to the criticism they received from the netizens.

It can be recalled that ‘Anti-Epal Bill’ was proposed several times in Congress to prevent public officials from including their names, initials, logos, or images in any operations or projects funded by taxpayers’ money.
