The lawyers of former Speaker Martin Romualdez have asked the Sandiganbayan to allow their client to temporarily stay at Cardinal Santos Medical Center due to his multiple cardiac and neurological conditions.
According to the manifestation filed by Romualdez’ camp with the Sandiganbayan Third Division, they requested that the former speaker remain in the hospital while in the court’s custody.
They presented the medical certificates from Dr. Rosalio Torres and Dr. Kurt Sibayan, which listed the health conditions Romualdez was facing.

6. Dyslipidemia
7. Primary Hypothyroidism
“The abstract also lists an extensive medication regimen for accused Romualdez, including Gliclazide, Semaglutide, Empagliflozin+Metformin, and Metformin combinations for the diabetes; Clopidogrel, Ivabradine, Telmisartan+Amlodipine, Finerenone, Omacor, Rosuvastatin, and Evolucumab for the cardiac/lipid profile; Levothyroxine for the hypothyroidism, and Alprazolam and Duodart,” the motion read.
They also presented the results of the MRI scan conducted by Radiologist Dr. Claro Ison, where irregularities were found when scanning Romualdez’s brain.
- There is a subacute to chronic infarct involving the right side of the pons
- Tiny old infarcts are seen in the left basal ganglia;
- Punctate and patchy T2/FLAIR hyperintense foci are present within the bilateral cerebral white matter and pons, without associated mass effect, consistent with mild chronic small vessel ischemic disease;
- Mild contour irregularities of the intracranial segments of the bilateral internal carotid arteries
As of writing, the Sandiganbayan Third Division has yet to answer the motion filed by Romualdez’s camp.
