Vice President Sara Duterte resigned from her position as the secretary of the Department Education and Vice Chairperson of the NTF-ELCAC.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) released a statement to confirm the news, saying that Duterte didn’t give her exact reason why she resigned from her position.
“At 2:21 pm today, 19 June 2024, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, went to Malacanang and tendered her resignation as Member of the Cabinet, Secretary of Department of Education, and Vice Chairperson of the NTF-ELCAC, effective 19 July 2024,” the office statement read.
Before her resignation, Duterte was caught in the middle of the word war between her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, and Marcos.
Even the first lady, Liza Marcos, openly criticized the former DepEd secretary.
Many experts believed that Duterte’s resignation was a preparation for the new opposition to the Marcos administration.
As of writing, Duterte has yet to give an official statement on the issue.
