Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner Willie Marcial warned Magnolia forward Calvin Abueva after the latter made fun of the disability of San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent.
The incident happened during the heat of Game 2 of the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals between Magnolia and San Miguel.
During the interview, Marcial warned Abueva about his antics and stated that the player could be removed from the league for good.
In 2019, Abueva was also suspended for 16 months in the PBA.
“Calvin, ‘yung ugali mo ulit ha. Kaya kita binan noon, dahil sa mga pinaggagagawa mo. Okay naman sa ‘kin ‘yung ma-ano ka sa court, pero tigilan mo ‘yung mga discrimination, antics and gesture at kung ano ginagawa mo. Baka i-ban kita ulit, or i-suspend,” said Marcial.
Fortunately, Abueva was only asked to pay P100,000 fines for his gesture.
Meanwhile, PBA didn’t penalize Abueva for confronting San Miguel player Mo Tautuaa and his wife, Aida.
Marcial believed that Abueva and Tautuaa misunderstood each other’s gestures, resulting in the confrontation.
Abueva and Gallent had already met and couldn’t stop themselves from being emotional during their reconciliation.
