Show na ‘Here Lies Love’ na naging matunog noon dahil sa isyu ni Lea Salonga, magtatapos na dahil sa mababang kita

Broadway musical ‘Here Lies Love,’ which is about the life of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, was set to end on November 26 due to low ticket sales.

It can be recalled that ‘Here Lies Love’ became known in the Philippines after a fan recorded Lea Salonga, who’s one of the cast of the show while rejecting the request from her sudden visitors in her dressing room.

According to the report, the show was already losing money as they needed to shell out a production cost of $700,000 per week, while the ticket sales were only reaching $500,000 to $620,000 weekly.

“But the reality is, succeeding on Broadway means not only producing excellent work with artistic merit, it also means creating the audience for it. And how much time it takes to find and grow new audiences is out of sync with the tight timeframes for audience-building and awareness,” the producers said.

However, they were proud that they brought the first all-Filipino acting company on Broadway, which received ‘critical acclaim.’

As of writing, Lea has yet to give any statement on the end of their show.
