On October 8, 2023, fans of Ricardo were surprised when he was seen undergoing booking procedures for estafa charges, and because of the gravity of the case, he was not allowed to post bail.

After three weeks, Julius Babao visited Ricardo, who was staying at Camp Karingal, to check the condition of the FPJ’s Batang Quiapo star.

During the interview, Ricardo said that he was not even serious when the authorities arrived to put him under custody because he thought that he was only being tricked by his colleagues.

“Akala ko skit, prank na pang-promote lang,” said Ricardo. “May mga lumapit na pulis sakin, akala ko kasama ni King kasi naka plain clothes. it took me a while to realize na totoo,”

“Kasi they kept addressing me as Mr. Ricardo Cepeda, sabi ko ‘parang nagkakamali siya sa lines niya’ sabi ko Mr. Wu ang pangalan ko, tapos ang sabi niya ‘pulis talaga ako'” he added.

Even if the officer already introduced himself, Ricardo was still not convinced that he was being served a warrant.

When he realized he was being held for real, Ricardo read the warrant and realized that he knew the people indicated on the document.

According to him, he didn’t resist because he knew that he was innocent.
