According to the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 21, Series of 2023, all public teachers should remove every decoration in their classroom, claiming that it would help the students to focus more on the lecture.

Tiyaking malinis at walang mga dekorasyon, tarpaulin o mga posters ang mga silid-aralan upang magkaroon ng focus ang ating mga mag-aaral sa mga leksyon mula sa ating mga guro,” said Duterte.

However, many netizens opposed the order from DepEd, saying that they do not believe that decorations would distract the students from listening to their teachers.

It included drag queen Pura Luka Vega who said that classroom decoration including educational posters helped the children become more creative.

“As a former teacher, I find it weird that classrooms are stripped off of visual aids, that will supposedly help students learn and spark their interest and imagination. ‘Yung periodic table ko nga dati, I have to print to cover an entire wall so students appreciate chemistry,” said Pura.

As of writing, DepEd has yet to give any response to the criticism received by their order.
