A lawyer believed that aside from being suspended, there was also a possibility that some people behind It’s Showtime may face serious charges.
Atty. Mark Tolentino said that the Kapamilya noontime show might face more serious things if ever they fail to convince the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) officials that they didn’t show anything indecent on their show.
“Kung hindi nila ma-explain ng maayos ‘yan, pwedeng ma-suspend ang show or kung hindi man ma-suspend, pwedeng ma-terminate and otherwise, may criminal aspect pa ‘yan,” the lawyer explained.
“Kung sino ang maging liable, mayroong kulong pa ‘yan na three months hanggang one year plus may fine pa na up to 100,000 pesos sa mga indecent at immoral show na nangyari lalo na sa isang noontime show,” he added.
According to Tolentino, MTRCB was tasked to promote ‘contemporary Filipino culture’ among the public, and showing anything against their standards might put any show in jeopardy.
The lawyer also clarified that MTRCB was giving It’s Showtime a chance to explain themselves and not yet starting any process to punish the show.
“Binigyan muna sila ng pagkakataon to explain, that’s why there was a show cause order ang in-issue ng MTRCB and to appear and to testify,” he said.
“Pag sa tingin nila ay hindi enough ‘yung kanilang explanation doon palang ‘yan ma-refer sa isang committee para there will be a proper investigation to check kung may tinatawag ba na probable cause ba na ituloy ang kaso,” he added.
