A television reporter shared his bonding with the Palarong Pambansa athletes who went viral on social media after running barefoot during the competition.
Jackie Rose Orpilla of CALABARZON and Shane Ann Labinghisa of Western Visayas captured the attention of the netizens after they decided to compete even if they don’t have any proper footwear during the event.
Despite being barefooted, Jackie Rose and Shane Ann performed well during the competition and even won medals for their respective region.
Jackie Rose reportedly finished second during the 400m run, while Shane Ann won a gold medal for the 4X400m Relay.
One of the journalists who covered the event, Mikee Reyes of Frontline Pilipinas decided to treat the two athletes on a shopping spree because of their performance.
“Na-touch talaga ako dun sa mga kwento nila nung nireport ko kahapon sa Frontline. Ginanahan pa akong magsipag. So ’yung gastos ko today para muna sa kanila,” said Reyes.
Reyes even said he felt ‘fulfilled’ when he spent his own money to treat the two athletes who gave honor to their provinces.
Shane and Jackie Rose thanked the reporter for the gifts they had received from him.
