E.A.T host Joey de Leon took a swipe against Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc. after the production company successfully renewed its trademark on Eat Bulaga branding for another ten years.
On August 5, 2023, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) granted the request made by TAPE Inc. to hold the Eat Bulaga and EB trademark until 2033.
Through her Instagram post, Joey made a creative reaction to another victory given to TAPE Inc.
Joey thanked TAPE Inc, claiming that the production company would promote the veteran hosts for another ten years.
“Sa kanila ang RENEWAL, sa amin ang NUMERAL! Thanks for promoting us for the next TEN years! I’m still with EB, ah ah, not that EB but with Ellen and Barbie!” said Joey.
It can be recalled that Joey reportedly filed a registration of a trademark for Eat Bulaga and its artistic elements.
Joey also claimed that he was the one who invented the title ‘Eat Bulaga’ and the rightful owner of its ‘copyright’.
The veteran comedian together with Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Jeny Ferre had filed a copyright infringement against TAPE before the Marikina Regional Trial Court to stop the production company from using Eat Bulaga title.
TVJ’s lawyer pointed out that there’s a big difference between trademark and copyright, saying that copyright was not required to be registered and that its right would automatically be given to the one who invented it.
