Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas captured the attention of the netizens after writing an advanced Gospel reflection on July 23, discussing the performance made by drag artist Pura Luka Vega.
In the said post, Villegas indirectly blamed the statements made by former President Rodrigo Duterte against the Catholic Church during his leadership.
“The seeds for this scandalous video were already planted in the field when we allowed vulgarity by high leaders in government to become a joking matter,” Villegas said.
However, one of the popular supporters of Duterte, Krizette Laureta Chu, told Villegas that it’s almost impossible for Vega to be inspired by the former President because the drag artist was a certified ‘Kakampink.’
Chu cited an article from Daily Tribune, where Vega revealed that former Vice President Leni Robredo was her inspiration.
“Pura Luka Vega as Mother Nature wanted to normalize talks on mental health and to make services available especially for queer people and the youth, while Lady Gagita as Confidently Powerful With a Heart talked against bullying and about being confident. She also shared that former Vice President Leni Robredo served as inspiration because she remained calm despite being bashed and being a victim of disinformation,” according to the article.
Chu also defended Luka from her critics, saying that people just let the drag artist do what she wants.
“If she wants to do it and it’s disrespectful to God, that’s between her and God. If it’s her way to worship and God rejects it, so be it,” she said.
“If He understands and accepts it, in His infinite wisdom, then we’re not in any position to judge. She will not be a bad influence to anyone because it’s not her job to influence or teach your children. It’s yours. Your children will grow up with your values, not hers.
“Wag tayo maging hipokrito like Soc Villegas.” she added.
