The House of Representatives on Friday rejected to give a new franchise to ABS-CBN.
Voting 70 to 11, the Committee on Legislative Franchise junked the hope of ABS-CBN to continue their operations after a 12-day hearing.
“By no means can this franchise application be related to press freedom,” the committee said.
“It is what it is–a denial of a privilege granted by the State because the applicant was seen as undeserving of the grant of a legislative franchise.”
Supporters of ABS-CBN expressed their support to the television network giant via social media and even asked the Congress to release the result so they could see the decision of every lawmaker who participated in the voting.
Fortunately, netizen @reignell made an unofficial list of the lawmakers who participated in the voting while waiting for the Congress to release the official result.
