Daryl Ong reveals that he got ousted from ABS-CBN for commenting “Si Presidente ba naman ang kalaban so malabo na yan!”

Filipino singer and songwriter Daryl Ong revealed that he’s no longer connected with ABS-CBN after he commented on the franchise issue being faced by the Kapamilya network.

In his vlog, Ong thanked ABS-CBN and his showbiz friends for the opportunity they gave to him.

Ong then narrated what happened before he got banned from the Kapamilya network.

According to his story, they’re in Iloilo for a tour together with his colleagues Bugoy Drilon and Michael Pangilinan when they discussed business opportunities like investing in the stock market.

Bugoy Drilon and Daryl Ong

They also accompanied by some people including a former employee of the Kapamilya network.

The discussion then led to the franchise issue being faced by ABS-CBN.

Drilon then showed an online petition expressing support to ABS-CBN.

He then told his colleague that there’s no hope for the petition to reach the required signatures, especially that the Kapamilya network was facing the wrath of the government and President Rodrigo Duterte.

@bugoydrilon IG

“Sabi ni Bugoy na 60 thousand na lang yung kulang para mabuo yung 1 million. Ako naman nakita ko rin yun, ang pagkakakita ko naman 60 thousang pa lang yung nagsasign.. May deadline po kasi yun…  So sabi ko kay Bugs, wala na ‘yan malabo na ‘yan, hindi na yan aabot kasi 60 thousang pa lang at anong petsa na…” Ong said.

“Tapos nagdagdag ako ng comment na sabi ko mahirap yan, naku malabo na yan mahirap yan, kalaban ba naman nila ang gobyerno, si Presidente ba naman ang kalaban, so malabo na yan,” he added.

Ong said the discussion ended after he made the said comments, however, they’re not aware that someone is already recording their discussion.

“Hindi po namin alam na ‘yung isang katabi namin sa table, ‘yung sinasabi ko na isang lalaki pa, akala ko kasi, kaibigan ‘yun nung babae na ka-kwentuhan namin na dating nagwo-work sa ABS… It turns out hindi niya pala kilala ‘yun,” he said.

“So nire-record pala kami, ‘yung usapan namin, hindi namin alam,” he added.

After their successful show in Iloilo, Ong was informed that their discussion reached one of the ABS-CBN big bosses already.

The singer said that they didn’t have a chance to explain their side to the big boss.

When they arrived in Manila, they were informed that he’s already banned in ABS-CBN together with Drilon.

“Meron ng batas na bawal na kaming lumabas sa lahat ng shows ng ABS-CBN,” he said.

After the incident, Ong, Pangilinan, and Drilon appeared as guests in Eat Bulaga to promote their concert.

Ong told his disappointed fans that he never left ABS-CBN because of his own decision.

“Hindi po ako umalis sa ABS-CBN, banned po ako, dahil doon sa insidente na napagkwentuhan namin ‘yung franchise issue at nakarating sa isang boss,” he clarified.

“Nakakalungkot lang na hindi kami nabigyan ng chance magpaliwanag,” he added.

Despite the decision of ABS-CBN against him, he’s still thankful for the opportunity given to him by the Kapamilya network.

This is not the first time that someone working for ABS-CBN got fired suddenly allegedly because of their comments.

Former DZMM host Jobert Sucaldito was suspended to his radio show after he talked about the relationship status of a top Kapamilya star.

Unlike Ong, Sucaldito filed an illegal dismissal complaint against ABS-CBN.

A former cameraman of ABS-CBN also narrated how his colleagues were invited to a feast only to be told that they’ve already fired.

School in Valenzuela City criticizes by netizen for requiring students to wear uniforms during online classes

A school in Valenzuela has gone viral on social media after thousands of netizens criticized them for requiring their students to wear a uniform during online classes.

Children of Mary Immaculate College Valenzuela captured the attention of the netizens for their answer about the attire required by their students to wear.

“Yes. Students and Teachers are required to wear uniform during online classes,” the school post reads.

Netizens shared their thoughts on the post of the school.

“How would this policy contribute to the learning process? If they want to conduct live teaching, maybe they could give guidelines on how to look “presentable/professional” during an online class,” netizen Teri An Magpale-Jang said.

“What is the logic of asking students to wear uniform?” netizen John Abellera remarked.

“Ganto maging mukang pera,” Aerosmith Mallillin commented.

However, some defended the school’s policy, telling them to be matured.

“Siguro kahit uniform lang na damit okna, respeto nalang siguro kase nagkakklase paden naman diba ket online class?:) makarant naman din yung iba na kesyo yung staff ang maglalaba ng uniform, malalaki na kayo, kaya nyo nayan:) napaka demanding nyo mga halatamg tamad , at walang ginagawa sa buhay. Be matured, sign of respect sa policy ng school, ang CMIC hindi para sa pagarhang lang:)” netizen Michaella Cruz stated.

The government is still not yet clarifying if students are still required to buy or wear a uniform during the new normal.

Even President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday questioned why the tuition fee didn’t change despite the fact that they ordered that there’s no face-to-face classes until there’s a vaccine available against COVID-19.

“The most pressing problem, the question most asked, why is here that there is a small drop in tuition fees even with this new learning set up?” Duterte asked.

Duterte also announced that schools will open on August 24.

Lolit Solis to Senator Kiko Pangilinan’s daughter : “Dapat lang irespeto mo iyon sinasabi ng mas matanda sayo”

Entertainment news writer and talent manager Lolit Solis has a piece of advice to Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan’s daughter Frankie.

In her Instagram post, Solis said that she was amazed that the so-called members of the ‘Generation Z’ are very aware of what’s happening in the country right now and already talking about important issues.

She couldn’t stop herself from giving also her comment about the word war between Frankie and journalist Ben Tulfo, saying that younger generations could now express their opinions without fear.

Senator Kiko Pangilinan and Frankie Pangilinan

However, Solit said that younger people like Frankie should also respect people older than her like Tulfo.

I think mas maganda, iyon nga lang maintain nila iyon respect for the elders,” she also said.

Some of the followers of Solis disagreed with the showbiz writer’s thoughts, saying that some elders really deserved to be disrespected.

“Hindi lahat ng elders tama ang opinion…katulad ng opinion ni ben tulfo Walng msama ecorrect ang baluktot na pananaw. Ang r*pist wlang pinipiling kasuotan yan kahit mga murang edad pinapatos at walang awang ginagahasa. Now tell me dpat bang erespesto ganon klaseng tao kramihan gumagawa nyan matatanda na,” netizen @avida1121 said.

“Just because she voices her opinions di meaning na walang respeto sa matatanda. Pinaandar mo nanaman yung against mo kay Sharon. Bakit di mo na pansin yung good qualities niua. She is a very loving sister kahit na sa adipted brother niya.. Kahit sa mga kasambahay… She can voice her opinion. Di naman bastos o walang respect mga points niya.. Valid naman.. Ikaw kadi Lolit pag ayaw mo sa ibang artista, palaging pasimple ang atake mo. Paano naman kadi 72 ka na, may favoritism ka pa. AMONIN,” oneheart0028 commented.

“Ang respeto wala sa edad din Hindi lahat Ng matanda karespe respeto,” purposedrivenken32 remarked.

A few days ago, Tulfo and Frankie clashed on Twitter about a sensitive issue.

“Hija, iba mag-isip ang mga manyakis at mga r*pists. Hindi natin sila matuturuan at mababago ang kanilang pagnanasa at pagiging kriminal,” Tulfo said.

“Ang tanging magagawa ay manamit ng tama. Huwag nating pukawin ang pagnanasa nila. Ito ang iyong magagawa,” he added.

Even the parents of Frankie, Sharon Cuneta, and Senator Kiko Pangilinan already joined the issue.

Sharon Cuneta slams Tulfo after her daughter clashed with the journalist: “Perhaps idol raffy tulfo would think of this is a much broader and fairer sense?”

Actress and singer Sharon Cuneta backed her daughter Frankie amid the clash between the latter and journalist Ben Tulfo about a very sensitive topic.

A few days ago, Ben Tulfo told Frankie Pangilinan that the only thing women could do to avoid predators is to wear appropriate dress.

@kakiep83

“Hija, iba mag-isip ang mga manyakis at mga r*pists. Hindi natin sila matuturuan at mababago ang kanilang pagnanasa at pagiging kriminal,” Tulfo said in his Facebook post.

“Ang tanging magagawa ay manamit ng tama. Huwag nating pukawin ang pagnanasa nila. Ito ang iyong magagawa,” he added.

Tulfo’s statement received criticisms on social media and even Frankie’s mother Sharon couldn’t stop herself from giving her comment on the issue.

She also expressed her amazement to her daughter who’s already fighting for the rights of the women on social media.

@sharon_cuneta12

Cuneta also compared Ben Tulfo to his brother Raffy who’s a very popular celebrity on social media.

“Perhaps idol Raffy Tulfo would think of this is a much broader and fairer sense..? Anyway – it DOES NOT AND WILL NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT YOUR STAND IS THAT WHICH IS CORRECT,” Cuneta said.

The megastar also said that anyone could be a victim of predators regardless of their clothing and age.

@sharon_cuneta12

Yesterday, Frankie’s father, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan showed his support to his daughter.

Tulfo already denied that he’s doing victim-blaming on his social media posts.

“I never said that I’m blaming the victims. Let’s get it straight, this is not a blame game. I said, ‘Let’s not awaken the beast within the criminals,’” Tulfo said.

The topic #HijaAko has gone viral on Twitter following Tulfo’s advice to Pangilinan.

Francis Leo Marcos has a message before entering BJMP: “Sa mga naninira sa akin, darating ang araw na makikita niyo ang katotohanan at tiyak ako na magsisisi kayo!”

Norman Mangusin, also known as Francis Leo Marcos addressed his loyalists and critics before entering the Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

Mangusin, who’s facing multiple charges including human trafficking, thanked the people who still believe him.

According to him, he’s happy to left the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) because he felt that his life was in danger.

His friend posted the letter of Marcos on her Facebook page.

Marcos was confident that someday, his critics would regret that they didn’t believe him.

On Monday, the camp of Marcos confirmed that their client was already ordered by the court to be transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa and eventually to Manila City Jail.

Aside from human trafficking, Marcos was reportedly facing charges like r*pe, illegal recruitment, land grabbing, falsifying documents.

NBI also found that Marcos was using a fake name, documents, and the properties he’s showing to his vlogs was only borrowed.

Marcos has gone viral because of his vlogs about his philanthropic activities while flaunting his wealth.

He even claimed that he already spent 99-M pesos and sold some of his properties to fund his ‘Mayaman Challenge’.

Kulong na! Francis Leo Marcos transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa and eventually to Manila City Jail

The camp of Norman Mangusin, also known as Francis Leo Marcos confirmed that their client was already ordered by the court to be transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig.

While the decision of the court to transfer Marcos to BJMP may be a bad sign in the eyes of the critics, the lawyers of the self-proclaimed businessman believed that their client is safer in the custody of the BJMP than the National Bureau of Investigation.

According to them, Marcos felt that he’s in danger during his stay at the NBI detention center.

“In answer to your question, YES we have a commitment order issued by RTC Br 25 to transfer the detention of Francis from the NBI to the BJMP,” Attorney Abraham Espejo, one of the lawyers of Marcos said.

“It’s a good order because it will prevent Francis from being harmed. It is risky for him to be detained by the same people who arrested him. We believe that his arrest was illegal. And if this is later on proved in court, the arresting officers will be in deep trouble. The temptation for them to retaliate against Francis is there and the chances of a possible attempt on his life are high,” he added.

“We don’t want Francis to be exposed to danger. Better for him to be transferred to the BJMP and away from the NBI for his safety,”

Atty. Abraham said that they’re expecting Marcos to be transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa “and eventually to the Manila City Jail”.

“Let me point out that we are fighting in court to free Francis in a series of bail hearings. We are hopeful that our efforts will have a successful outcome,” he said.

It was confirmed that Marcos was already transferred to Camp Bagong Diwa on Monday.

Ironically, one week ago, his still-active “Mayaman Challenge” donated sacks of rice to Camp Bagong Diwa

Marcos was facing multiple charges including human trafficking, r*pe, illegal recruitment, land grabbing, falsifying documents.

NBI also found that Marcos was using a fake name, documents, and the properties he’s showing to his vlogs was only borrowed.

The problem of Marcos started when he filed a complaint to NBI to investigate the people making ‘fake accounts’.

NBI then discovered that Marcos was ordered to appear in court due to his violation of Optometry law.

Wilfredo Keng speaks after winning against Maria Ressa: “Winning this case assures Filipinos that published falsehoods will not remain unchallenged”

The man behind the cyber libel charges against Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and their former researcher Reynaldo Santos Jr. released a statement after he won the case against on Monday.

Wilfredo Keng on his statement said that they asked Rappler several times to correct their story titled “CJ using SUVs of ‘controversial’ businessmen”.

According to the article, Keng was allegedly under surveillance by the “National Security Council for alleged involvement in illegal activities,”

Here’s the full statement of Keng:

15 June 2020
“Free Speech, Yes. Falsehood, No.”

When I filed this private complaint more than three years ago, I knew that this was going to be a long and painful process for me and my family. Still, I vowed to see this case to the very end.

This is my bid to protect my name, and my sacrifice for my children and our future generations, who deserve nothing less than freedom in the form of absolute truth.

Today, with the judgment of conviction against Ressa and Santos promulgated by the Hon. Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa, I have been vindicated, at least, to the extent possible considering that the damage had already been done.

Even today, when the truth should have set me free, Rappler’s lies still resound after the bang of the gavel has faded away.
I have been a private, hardworking businessman for 37 years now. I started out in the humblest of beginnings, a young man selling my wares on a few feet of space in the banketas of Manila.

It is the same name I have handed down to my children, ang aking pinakamahalagang pamana sa kanila. It is also the very same name which Ressa, with one click of a button, attempted to destroy.

Not today, Ressa.

Motivated by the sheer conviction that I have done nothing to deserve the false accusations against me, I decided to go on my quest for justice even if it meant going up against Rappler, a powerful and well-funded media entity with a global reach, headed by one of Time Magazine’s “Top 100 Most Influential Women in the World” – Maria Ressa herself.

Ressa portrays herself as an alleged defender of press freedom and as a purported target of the Philippine Government, but this in no way exempts her from respecting and following Philippine laws. If anything, being a public figure, mas malaki ang kaniyang responsibilidad na magsabi ng totoo at sumunod sa batas.

As I have proven in the course of the trial, I have never been investigated or summoned for, much less charged with or convicted of, any wrongdoing or illegal act by any law enforcement agency whether here or abroad.

Ressa has never disputed this, but has simply attempted to hide behind a technical plea: na sa kabila ng kanilang kasinungalingan, hindi na ako maaring magreklamo dahil lumipas na ang panahon kung kailan ko dapat isampa ito. Justly, this attempt has failed.

Ressa then dares to publicly connect my private suit to an alleged governmental attack on the Philippine Free Press.

This case is NOT a case of the government. I am a private citizen and this is a private suit. I filed my complaint prior to and independently of any case the Philippine Government may have filed against Ressa. Unlike Ressa, who attended hearings but who refused to take the witness stand, I testified in open court because I believe that I am telling the truth. I went through all stages of the legal process with no shortcuts or exemptions. To repeat, it has been more than 3 years. Had the government been, as Ressa falsely claims, connected with my private suit, maaring matagal nang natapos ang kaso na ito.

This is NOT a fight against the Press Freedom, an institution I deeply respect and uphold. For years, I have personally suffered from Rappler’s false accusations against me, which false accusations have no place in a responsible and free press. Indeed, it is an accepted legal principle that libel is not protected speech.

My filing AND winning this case assures Filipinos that published falsehoods will not remain unchallenged and unchecked in this jurisdiction but will instead be dealt with by law, strengthening the people’s respect for the Philippine Media in the years to come.

Bukod sa pagkaso laban sa mga kasinungalingan at libelo ni Ressa noong 2012 at noong 2014, I have filed another complaint against Ressa for yet another libelous act before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Makati, which I hope to likewise see to its lawful and just fruition.

It is of public record: My counsel had pleaded and begged with Rappler and Ressa to correct their false public accusations that I am a criminal, or at the very least, to publish my side.

They refused.

They have denied me my right to clear my name. Where else can I go to seek justiceand protection but our courts?

And so I did.
— NOTHING FOLLOWS —

Manila Regional Trial Court branch 46 sentenced Ressa and Santos of 6-year term and ordered to pay P400,000 to Keng.

“There is no curtailment of the right to freedom of speech and of the press,” the judge Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa who handed down the ruling said.

The decision of the court has been criticized by celebrities, politicians, and lawyers, including Vice President Leni Robredo.

ABS-CBN’s Karen Davila on Maria Ressa’s conviction: “What a sad day for democracy!”

ABS-CBN journalist Karen Davila couldn’t hide her disappointment over the decision of the Manila Regional Trial Court 46 against Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and former researcher Reynaldo Santos Jr.

In a series of tweets, Davila expressed her sadness to the decision of the court to convict Ressa of cyber libel.

The cyber libel charges were filed by businessman Wilfredo Keng against Ressa and Santos for the article they wrote in 2012 and modified in 2014.

“What a sad day for democracy. #IStandWithMariaRessa,” Davila said.

“The verdict opens the floodgates for senseless cyber libel cases against journalists. Instead, it encourages underground faceless trolling even more. #mariaressa #IStandWithMariaRessa #DefendPressFeedom,” she added.

ABS-CBN, the network of Davila was forced the shutdown by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) a few months ago because of their franchise issues.

Aside from Davila, opposition senators Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros also expressed their support to the online news website.

“Under the current political atmosphere of repression and authoritarianism, it would have been a surprise if  @mariaressa and Reynaldo were acquitted. The silencing of critics and the attacks on the media has been going on for three years now,” Pangilinan said.

“And unless we stand up, speak out, and vigorously oppose the tyranny in our midst, their conviction will not be the last,” he added.

“Today’s conviction sends a chilling message to all: kung kritiko ka, pwede kang ipasara at pwede kang patahimikin. I urge everyone to speak out. Dumarami tayo. We are complicit if we are silent. Takot sila, kaya nila tayo pinapatahimik,” Hontiveros said.

Meanwhile, Malacanang insisted that the Duterte administration supported press freedom.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, President Rodrigo Duterte never filed a libel case against anyone, evidence that the chief executive supported free speech.

“She’s (Ressa) barking at the wrong tree. The president supported Alexander Adonis when he went to the UN Human Rights Committee. What evidence does she need to understand that one of the staunchest supporters of freedom of expression and freedom of the press is the president who, in his entire career, never filed a libel case against anyone,” Roque said.

Trillanes on Maria Ressa’s cyber libel conviction: “We’re few steps away from Martial Law”

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said that what happened to Rappler CEO Maria Ressa might be a sign that the Philippines would be put under martial law again under President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration.

In a tweet, Trillanes said that the conviction of the cyber libel of the Manila Regional Trial Court 46 against Ressa and a former researcher Reynaldo Santos Jr. is an attack on the “freedom of the press” and “democracy”.

Trillanes urged the people to speak before it’s too late.

“More than the obvious attack against the freedom of the press, Maria Ressa’s conviction for cyber libel is an attack against our democracy itself. We are now but a few steps away from Martial Law,” Trillanes, a known critic of the Duterte administration said.

“Panahon na para magsalita at magsama-sama bago pa mawala nang tuluyan ang ating kalayaan,” he added.

In October 2017, businessman Wilfredo Keng filed cyber libel charges against Ressa and Santos Jr. for the article they wrote about the former on May 29, 2012.

According to ABS-CBN’s Mike Navallo article, the decision of the court might be different if the news company didn’t edit their 2012 article in 2014 to correct a typo.

Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act was signed into law was only signed on September 12, 2012.

Ressa was sentenced by six months and one day to up to six years in jail and asked to pay P200,000 in moral damages and P200,000 in exemplary damages to Keng.

The court also said that Ressa’s Rappler has no liability.

“There is no curtailment of the right to freedom of speech and of the press,” the judge Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa who handed down the ruling said.
