San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora’s meeting with Lexter ‘Boy Dila’ Castro became one of the top topics this week.
During the press conference held on July 2, 2024, Castro personally apologized to the public for his behavior during and after the ‘Wattah, Wattah Festival.’
He went viral on social media after he was video-captured pouring water on a delivery rider.
The criticism he received was also intensified after he openly admitted that he didn’t follow the rider’s request not to pour water on him.
Netizens expected Castro to receive an intense sermon from Zamora, as the Mayor said he would punish his constituent unforgettably, but it didn’t happen.
After the press conference, Castro and Zamora could be seen shaking each other’s hands.
When the media asked Zamora why they had a handshake, the Mayor said it symbolized Castro’s sincere apology to the public.
Zamora also said that Castro would not stick out his tongue next time.
“Yung pagshe-shakehands namin, ito ay isang simbolo ng pag-ako sa kanyang mga nagawa na sa totoo lang ay naging dahilan naman po ng pagkakaroon ng kahihiyan dahil nga po sa kumalat sa social media, nagkaroon po talaga ito ng kahihiyan sa aming lungsod,” said Zamora.
“Ako’y nagpapasalamat sa kanya [Castro] dahil naglakas loob siya na pumunta dito at aminin ang kanyang mga kasalanan, aminin ang kanyang mga nagawa, humingi ng tawad at paumanhin.
“Para sa kanya, ito ‘yung leksyon na sinasabi ko, isang bagay na hindi niya makakalimutan dahil natuto siyang magpakumbaba, humingi ng tawad at magbago at hindi niya na ilalabas ang kanyang dila dahil ang kanyang ipinangako at hindi narin siya magiging mayabang sa anumang paraan,” he added.
Furthermore, Zamora said that as a Mayor, he also considered his constituents his children.
