In an interview, Dani expressed her belief that children have a right to refuse to help their parents, calling the “utang na loob” culture toxic.

“Hindi ka puwedeng magkaroon ng utang na loob sa isang bagay na dapat nilang gawin para sa yo. kasi there are some people who use that against people, parang, ‘Pinaaral kita, pinaganito kita, ganyan-gayan… so, dapat ito yung binibigay mo sa akin.’” said Dani.

However, Dani said that it should be the obligation of parents to support their children until they can work for themselves.

However, some netizens didn’t like what Dani said, saying that she was being selfish.

“Take note, parents also did all the hard work and their best to make you the best. If you have love and respect for your parents , there is NO toxic mentality in doing it at all.
Selfishness Ang tawag Jan,” netizen Mae said.
