In a statement he released on Twitter, Pura, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente asked the public what mistake did he made to be declared persona-non-grata in Manila and different provinces in the country.

According to him, the public officials who declared him an undesirable visitor in his city didn’t even reach out to know the intention of his performance last July 10.

He insisted that what he did was only a way to express his art and not to make fun of the Catholic Church.

“Tell me EXACTLY what I did wrong. I’m open for a dialogue and yet cities have been declaring persona non grata without even knowing me or understanding the intent of the performance,” said Pura.

“Drag is art. You judge me yet you don’t even know me,” he added.

It can be recalled that Pura had been banned from visiting Manila according to a resolution filed by its City Council led by District 5 Councilor Ricardo Isip Jr.

“Ito pong taong ito ay walang habas at ‘di man lang pinag-isipan ang kanyang ginawa … Isang kalapastangan po ang kanyang ginawang palabas. Hindi po dapat itong palagpasin kasi ‘pag pinalagpas natin ito, baka maparisan po ito. Kailangan na po nating gumawa ng aksyon.” the councilor said in his sponsorship speech.
