San Jose del Monte (SJDM), Bulacan Mayor Rida Robes went viral on social media after her video, in which she called out the audience at a basketball game at Minuyan Sports Complex on August 24, 2026, was uploaded.
In the video, the audience can be heard shouting ‘tubig’ repeatedly, possibly in heckling, due to the city’s long-standing water shortage.
Robes can be heard asking the audience why they were disrespecting their mayor and Congressman Arthur Robes, who was her husband.
Aba, mahiya naman kayo!” she said.
According to reports, a councilor who was present during the basketball game was the one who urged the audience to shout ‘tubig.’
Meanwhile, the City Youth Sports and Development Office of SJDM released a statement, saying that they were not condoning any disrespect or heckling during their event.
Ngunit mayroong tamang lugar, tamang panahon, at tamang paraan upang gawin ito,” the statement read.
As of writing, the councilor who was being accused of leading the heckling has yet to give statement.
