A former barista working for coffee chain giant Starbucks gave his thoughts on the complaint published by a blogger after the staff mispelled his name.
In his Facebook post, content creator and former Starbucks barista Marron Santillan said that it was already a common occurrence that some staff of the coffee shop would misspell their customers’ names because of the noise, especially during peak hours.
He was also surprised that a customer complained because of his misspelled name.
“Minsan, hindi talaga maiiwasan na ma-misspell ang pangalan ng customer sa cup. Actually, kapag hindi masyadong busy, I even ask how they spell it para safe. Pero kahit na ganun, marami pa ring beses na namispell ko ang pangalan ng customers kasi hindi naman ako perfect?” he said.
Pero kahit ganoon ay hindi naman sila nag-inarte? Hahaha. Kasi Starbucks atmosphere is very homey, that’s why we call it our ‘third place’, at sobrang KJ mo naman if gagawa ka ng eksena because of that,” he added.
Marron also debunked some rumors that Starbucks staff would sometimes intentionally misspell their customers’ names as part of their marketing strategy.
“Hindi ko kinaya yung attitude ni accla, feeling very important person siya, bhie 😭 Also, dun sa nagpapalalat ng marketing strat daw na i-mispell yung name ng customers? Saang lupalop mo naman nahugot yan, ate?” he stated.
It can be recalled that netizen JP Abecilla, a self-proclaimed award-winning blogger, claimed that the barista mispelled his name as “JC,” which prompted him to leave the store.
“Frustrated and disappointed, I decided to walk out without claiming my order. It’s been about 30 minutes now. I imagine they’re still calling out “JC” for an order that’s probably headed to the garbage can soon.” he stated.
