Several senators, including Alan Peter Cayetano, insisted that CIDG Director Major General Nicolas Torre III cannot impose executive privilege.
During the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations’ investigation into the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Cayetano said that unless President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. directed Torre not to attend, he had no right to refuse the lawmakers’ invitation.
“He’s not covered by Executive Privilege, unless the president talked to him directly,” said Cayetano.
Torre was among the officials who refused to attend the continuation of the hearing.
The official was one of the key personalities present during the arrest of the former President.
He was the one who implemented the order to bring the former President to an airplane to the Hague.
Torre also received criticism from the lawmakers after admitting that he used force when it was already time for the former president to board the plane.
