According to the report from Binondo-based newspaper Shangbao, the 14-year-old Malaysian-Chinese national, Andy Wan, was allegedly bought by his driver to the province of Bulacan.

A group reportedly asked the parents for a $20-M ransom.

It was unknown if the parents demanded ransom from the group.

There were reports that the boy already returned to his family, but some photos circulating on Filipino-Chinese community forums showed that he lost one of his fingers.

In an internal letter released to the parents, British School Manila head Martin Van Der Linde vowed to provide support to the students, including to the victim.

“We understand that this news may cause unrest, and our counseling team is ready to provide support to students,” said Linde.

Phhua also reported that the style of the abduction was similar to some incidents that happened in Hong Kong.

“In cases like this where the hostages are successfully rescued after paying the ransom, there are generally powerful underground society bosses as communication channels for both parties, and guarantees that the hostages will be released after the ransom is paid,” according to the report.
