The family of the legendary Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu confirmed the passing of the Meteor Garden Star at the age of 48.
In a statement released by Barbie’s family, they said that the actress passed away due to complications she got from pneumonia.
The actress passed away during her family vacation in Japan.
“Thank you all for your concern! During the Lunar New Year, our family traveled to Japan. Unfortunately, our dear and kind sister, Xiyuan (Barbie Hsu’s given name) passed away after contracting the flu and pneumonia,” the family statement read.
“I am grateful that I was able to be her sister through my life, looking after and accompanying each other. I will always be grateful towards you and will miss you! Shan~ (shortened nickname for Xiyuan) Have a safe journey! I love you forever. together remember forever,” they added.
Rumors started to circulate about Barbie’s passing when her ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, changed his profile picture to black.
Barbie became popular in the Philippines because of her role in the Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden.
She also visited the Philippines several times and became part of the core memories of Philippine television in the 2000s.
As of writing, members of the original Meteor Garden have yet to release a statement.
