Netizens started to question the awarding bodies that recognized Angelica Yulo, the mother of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo.
It can be recalled that on October 5, 2024, Angelica was set to receive another award from Asia’s Man & Woman of the Year Excellence Award for being the ‘most exceptional woman of the year.’
“Angelica Poquiz Yulo is proud mother and wife. She will reconised in her remarkable journey as a compassionate, selfless, and Devoted Mother, embodying the true essence of being a woman in her unwavering love, strength, and dedication to her family have made her an inspiration to mothers everywhere,” the award body wrote.
Netizen Troy Espiritu investigated the awarding body and found that it was allegedly offering awards in exchange for money.
In the photo published by Espiritu, an image allegedly sent by the awarding body showed the ‘package’ sponsors need to pay to get recognition.
A minor sponsor was required to pay P50,000 to be recognized by the awarding body, a full-page colored ad with two complimentary dinners, while basic sponsors must pay P30,000 in exchange for awards, one complimentary dinner, and more.
According to the page history of the said awarding body, Asia’s Man & Woman of the Year was formerly named as ‘Woman of the Year excellence award’.’
The page was formed in 2021 and was only active once a year when they launched an awards night.
