The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) President Cynthia Carrion said that Carlos Yulo was supposed to reconcile with his mother, Angelica Yulo, but was postponed after their family issues were publicized.
In an interview with DWIZ, Carrion said that Carlos was very disappointed when his mother talked to the media about their issues and even thought Mrs. Yulo wanted him to lose the competition.
“We are wondering why, in his stage of winnings, they will come up with media saying things against him. Carlos is just wondering, and we were wondering why? Carlos thinks that his mother wants him to lose,” she said.
Carrion said that she was trying to convince Carlo not to think badly of his mother anymore, and she even made efforts to let the mother and child talk to each other.
“I’ve been trying to talk to the mother, I’ve been trying to make her reach out to her son and I’ve been trying to talk to Carlos to reach out to his mother. I want them to be talking, I want them to be a family,” she said.
However, Carrion believed that as long as the media followed the issue, a reconciliation might be difficult for Carlos.
“Carlos has his own reasons, the mother has her own reasons. If I could talk right now, I will tell but I don’t want to make the fire bigger, but I am on Carlos’ side.” she said.
“It has to come from him.. it has to come from his heart. As soon as he’s ready, he will do it… and Carlos is already thinking about it,” she added.
She also asked the Yulo family to stop taking a swipe against Carlos.
“So we would like people to… I mean the family not to come up with things in the media to make it big bigger. That’s all he (Carlos) wants.”
