Money Garland became trending again on social media after several parents gave it to their children who just graduated from their school.
However, the said trend gained different reactions from the netizens and even from teachers as they believed that Money Garland was a sign of a lack of sensitivity by some parents who only wanted to flex their wealth.
It can be recalled that Money Garland also went viral last year as several content creators made it as a gift to their relatives who graduated.
One of those content creators is Christian Merck Grey, who also reposted the photo taken when his brother received the money garland worth P1-M from him.
It was Christian’s reaction to the criticism being received by the trend from the netizens.
“Congrats brother! Wala ehh. Mayabangg kuya mo,” Christian wrote.
Meanwhile, several netizens tried to compare people like Christian to Manny Pacquiao, who’s one of the richest people in the country.
In the said photo, Pacquiao was shown attending the graduation of his daughter Mary from an international school.
“Very humble ang anak ng bilyonaryo nagtapos sa Brent International School Manila. No money garland that is five meters long. She’s only holding a bouquet. We should all be like this, simply giving gifts to our children in public places,” a netizen said.
“Graduation. Walang perang display. Walang money bouquet, walang money garland. Just like the good old days na wala pang social media,” another netizen commented.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) has yet to give a statement regarding the said trend.
