Despite insisting that her mother tongue was Filipino, a past video showing Bamban Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo while speaking fluent Mandarin raised more questions about her real identity.
During the investigation of the lawmakers, Guo said she was a pure Filipino as she was born and raised in Tarlac.
She even said that her mother tongue was Filipino despite showing signs of difficulty in speaking the local language.
“Ako po ay lumaki sa Barangay Virgen Delos Remedios, Bamban, Tarlac. Ako po ay isang Filipino, lumaki po ako kasama po ang mga empleyado namin sa farm,” she said.
However, she said she didn’t know how to speak Kapampangan, which is also commonly spoken in her hometown.
Even her lawyer said that she was fluent in Tagalog.
“Ang mother tongue niya ay Tagalog,” Guo’s counsel, Atty. Alex Avisado Jr. said.
However, a video showing Guo speaking in Mandarin captured the attention of the netizens, saying that she could speak a foreign language without any effort.
The video was taken inside her office in Bamban Municipal Hall.
Some experts also pointed out how Guo was forcing herself to pronounce Filipino words with “r” as the said letter was pronounced differently in Mandarin.
As of writing, the investigation was still ongoing to uncover the real identity of Guo.
