Joemari Castro, a student of Siwalo National High School, left a letter to inform his parents about his decision, saying that his failed grades would not make him eligible for graduation.

According to Maricar Castro, Joemari failed in home economics, a subject that teaches students to cook, after the student allegedly failed to buy ingredients for the project assigned to him by his teacher.

Mrs. Castro said that Joemari couldn’t afford to buy the ingredients because they were already struggling to make ends meet.

They believed that Joemari failed to provide the said ingredient, so he only received a very low grade.

Joemari’s mother also said they had already noticed the changes in her son after the grades for the second quarter of the school year were submitted.

“Ma indi don ako magskwela kay indi don ako ka agent kay ma’am , subra project na indi ko kasarang ma sorry gid,” he wrote. (Ma, I can’t go to school because I can’t handle it anymore. Ma’am Laura’s projects are too much, I’m really sorry)

Meanwhile, the Department of Education – Western Visayas has yet to give any statement on the incident.
