Indonesian band Papinka addresses Shaira after allegedly copying their song: “You must ask permission”

Indonesian band Papinka addressed the netizens after some Filipinos informed them of the possible copying done by the Bangsamoro Queen of Pop, Shaira on one of the songs.

It can be recalled that Shaira’s “Forever Single,” was allegedly similar with Papinka’s song, “Masih Mencitainya,” prompted several Filipinos to inform the band about it.

“Pilipino po ako kaya nalulungkot ako sa kababayan ko na si shaira sobrang mali po talaga ginawa nya sana maging aral sa lahat na gustong gumawa ng sariling kanta.. Mahal ko kayo,” netizen Nicolonico_28 said.

As a response,  Papinka addressed not only Shaira, but also other artists, saying that they were fine with someone covering their songs as long as they would ask for permission.

The band also called people who were trying to earn income by copying someone’s song as ‘theft’.

“I hope musicians respect other people’s properties, their music covers are fine, but you must ask permission to use any song melody before uploading it,” the band wrote.

“Credit is not given if you earn income from the song, it’s theft,” they added.

Aside from Papinka, Shaira was also facing a copyright issue for allegedly copying the melody of other artists’ song.

Meanwhile, one of the DJs working with Shaira called out the netizens who criticized the Bangsamoro Pop Queen.’

“Ito lang ang masasabi ko at itatak nyo sa isip nating mga pinoy. Humingi rin ba kayo nang permiso kay Shaira at ang AHS Channel tungkol sa kanta na inilabas namin na nacopyright dahil din sa mga pinoy at pagkakitaan nyo sa mga vlog nyo? Diba wala? Naki alam ba kami sa inyo?” DJ Charles wrote.
