Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon announced another major victory amid their legal battle against their former production company Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc., and former network GMA.
In their Facebook post, Tito read the judgment made by Marikina Court where they filed the copyright infringement case against TAPE and GMA for their continuous usage of the Eat Bulaga title.
The court ordered TAPE and GMA:
- to avoid using trademarks Eat Bulaga, EB, including all the logos associated with subject parts and its shows, programs, projects, or promotions.
- Usage of Eat Bulaga single/song or any part of it on projects, shows, and promotions.
- Airing and broadcasting of playback or any recorded episodes of Eat Bulaga shows before 31st May 2023.
It can be recalled that the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) removed the trademark rights of TAPE Inc.
E.A.T staff and hosts couldn’t hide their happiness after hearing the decision of the court, which gave them the right to use the Eat Bulaga title again.
“Tayo po ang may-ari ng Eat Bulaga,” said Tito.
On May 31, 2023, TVJ, hosts, and staff of Eat Bulaga left the show due to internal issues happened involving its executives.
TAPE Inc. didn’t give up the Eat Bulaga title and kept using it.
Before ending the live, TVJ and the staff of Eat Bulaga sang their original song as a symbol as they’re now legally allowed to use it again.
