GMA Network clarifies that AI Sportscasters are not replacement to humans

GMA Network addressed the criticism they received from the netizens after they revealed the first AI Sportscasters in the country, Maia and Marco.

Maia and Marco were introduced on September 23 as part of the upcoming season 99 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) aired on GMA.

The news received negative comments from the netizens, fearing that GMA was starting to replace their human workers with computers and that other networks might follow suit if it was proven successful by the Kapuso Network.

They’re also worried that AIs would replace newscasters because it’s believed to be cheaper than paying a human journalist.

However, GMA Network clarified that they’re not replacing humans with AIs like Maia and Marco.

“They are Al presenters, not journalists. They can’t replace our seasoned broadcasters and colleagues who are the heart of our organization,” GMA Network Senior Vice President and Head of Integrated News, Regional TV, and Synergy Oliver Victor B. Amoroso said.

“While we are for innovation, we also value training and upskilling our employees so they could be empowered in this age of Al,” they added.

Meanwhile, a professor believed it was already the right time for media companies to know the benefits and disadvantages of employing AI.
