Kapuso actress Barbie Forteza shared that she was the one who insisted to enter the show business to help her parents.
In an interview with Karen Davila on March 2, 2023, Barbie narrated her experiences during her childhood and how she dream to grant her family a comfortable life.
Barbie shared that she didn’t belong to a well-off family; her father, Tony Forteza, was working as a tricycle driver while her mother, Imelda Forteza was tasked to handle their small family business.
However, she clarified that she didn’t pursue showbiz because of their financial situation during that time, saying that she really wanted to work as an actress.
“To be completely honest, and I’m really thankful for my parents for this, dahil ginusto ko maging artista [pero] hindi nila sinabi na, ‘Anak, mag-artista ka kasi kailangan natin ng extra,'” she said.
“Never nila pinaramdam sa ‘min ni ate na kailangan namin tumulong sa kanila,” she also said.
Despite being contended, Barbie still wanted her parents to enjoy life so she urged them to retire when her career reached its success.
“Pinatigil ko na po ‘yung parents ko na magtrabaho. Nu’ng medyo umokey-okey na po ‘yung income, sabi ko hindi na kailangan kasi kaya ko naman,” she shared.
Netizens were touched by Barbie’s decision to help her parents even if it’s not her obligation to do so.
According to them, Barbie deserved her current fame because of being a good daughter to her family.
