Quezon City 1st District Rep. Arjo Atayde received criticisms from netizens after he revealed the number of vehicles he owned.
In a statement, Atayde said he would help the commuters in his city who might be affected by the nationwide ‘tigil-pasada’ by lending his 37 vehicles.
“In my own little way, I am willing to help my district and nearby areas here in QC by providing our own vehicles to help the commuters, especially our medical frontliners,” Atayde said in a statement.
However, Atayde received negative reactions from the netizens, questioning why a public official like him possessed too many vehicles.
“Dapat may limit sa pagbili ng sasakyan eh,” netizen @mamavelvet38 said.
“Bakit daw marami nagagalit kay Arjo Atayde na ipapaheram niya 37 personal vehicles sa mga komyuter na maapektuhan ng transport strike na magsisimula bukas. Arjo Atayde is a public servant and by lending his cars, he is completely missing the point of a transport strike.” netizen @renzdelaluna remarked.
“Beh yung 37 vehicles mo nalang yung iphase out, wag na mga jeep,” netizen @kaimeanschicken commented.
Meanwhile, several fans of Atayde defended the official, saying that he could afford the said vehicles because he was an actor before.
After receiving criticisms, the camp of Atayde clarified that the vehicles that the official lent were service vehicles he had already donated to the LGU of QC in 2021.
