Celebrity couple Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna gained thousands of reactions from netizens after putting a Filipino flag before their Chinese-Filipino neighbor’s house.
In a video shared by Ellen, Derek was seen putting a big Filipino flag on their balcony facing the house of their neighbor.
The house of their neighbor can be seen displaying Chinese decorations in front of their house.
Ellen can be seen laughing while zooming on the house of their neighbor.
However, some netizens disliked the gesture of Ellen and Derek saying that the neighbor was only celebrating the Chinese New Year.
One of the netizens who criticized the celebrities was MJ Quiambao Reyes, saying that the two didn’t respect the privacy of their neighbor.
“Tsk! What I’m seeing is more like ignorance than patriotism. For the life of me, your neighbor simply celebrated Chinese New Year. Did you even ask their permission first before zooming in and showing their residence in public?” Quiambao said.
Another netizen, Charie De also reminded Ellen and Derek to be respectful with their neighbor if they wanted their countrymen to be respected in other countries.
“CNY will end only this weekend. Respect begets respect. If u want ur countrymen overseas to be respected, do so with mix races celebrating their holidays in ur homeland – so long as they don’t give u harm.” De said.
However, some netizens also defended Ellen and Derek reminding the public about the actions of China in West Philippine Sea.
