Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez thanked her solid fans for defending her against the criticisms she received after the tweet exchange between her and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr.
However, she said that the issue should not continue to be discussed by the netizens saying that people should focus on how they would contribute to taking care of the environment which is her long-time advocacy.
“Salamat sa pagtatanggol nyo sa ating karapatang ihayag ng malaya ang ating mga saloobin.” Velasquez said.
“But, now let us all focus on healing and forgiving each other. Sa ngayon I think mas makakatulong tayo kung gagawa tayo ng isang bagay para sa ating kalikasan kahit maliit na bagay lang…….” she added.

Velasquez also said that she realized that her reply to Locsin’s tweet was also disrespectful saying that she’s not proud of what she said last week.
According to him, she’s only delivering her side as a human being who cares about the environment and defending the country from the illegal poachers.
“I answered a tweet that for me was disrespectful to all of us but didn’t realize that I was disrespectful of him too. I’m not proud of that. But still, this is about people destroying Mother EARTH. it’s the only one we have and so let us love and protect Her.” she said.

The issue started last week when Locsin downplayed the poaching incident happened in the West Philippine Sea.
Velasquez confronted Locsin on Twitter, saying that she’s wrong in thinking that the foreign affairs secretary is a smart guy.
“Ang akala ko pa naman matalino ka. Ako ay simpling tao lamang na may simpleng pagiisip. These people are invading our territory they are not just taking food sinistral nila ang ating karagatan!!!!” Velasquez told Locsin.
Pero ang problem ay hindi po territorio natin yun. EEZ.

On April 21, journalist Ben Tulfo criticized Velasquez saying that the renowned singer should stop meddling with a discussion about international relations.
“Ano bang alam nitong si Regine Velasquez other than kumanta lamang, kung di man career na medyo dwindling down. And so, speaking up like may alam pag dating sa foreign relations or foreign affairs ang isang entertainer,” Tulfo said.
Two days after Tulfo released his statement, Regine’s husband, Ogie Alcasid defended his wife from the journalist.
“Sir @bitagbentulfo . I offer my cheek to you. After you have maligned my wife I ask that you focus on me. She is after all a lady. God bless you sir.” Alcasid said.
However, Tulfo explained to Alcasid that he didn’t mean to hurt anybody. After the short discussion, the two decided to let the issue end.
